Security :: Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool Runs Daily?

Aug 14, 2014

I just looked at the Malicious Software Removal Tool log which seems to be located in the following folder,

%windir%debugmrt.log

Looking at the log it seems to be running daily as there is an entry for each day since I installed Windows 8.1

I thought this tool ran once and then deleted itself. Also I'm pretty sure in Vista and W7 ? that there was only a monthly entry.

Very Slow And Couldn't Connect To System Notification Center After Malware Removal

Jul 17, 2014

My father accidentally fell for the "your media player needs to be updated" and downloaded a ton of malware.

I used this guide: [URL]

And now it is running EXTREMELY slow and it can't load any Windows services on the computer. Any time I try to open a program it just stops responding.

Also while I was doing the malware removal "Safe mode with networking" was working fine. Now in the same "Safe mode with networking" the network isn't working. No internet available.

I am getting an error message "Failed to connect to system event notification center"

All the malware still isn't gone from Chrome but I need to fix this problem first.

Graphic Cards :: Removal Of Nvidia Drivers - Desktop Right Click Takes 15 Seconds?

Oct 19, 2013

I bought myself a Radeon HD 7770 a few months back to replace an old GeForce 9600GT. A few weeks after installing the AMD card, I was going through my programs cleaning out old files and decided to remove all the Nvidia stuff. I removed the drivers and stuff and upon reboot, my computer would no longer boot to the desktop. I ended up having to use system restore to get the computer working again...

Fast forward to yesterday. I upgraded from Windows 8 Pro with Media Center to Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center, and I started experiencing the same problem listed here: "Win 8.1 desktop right click takes 15 seconds!" I tried the same solution that was found and it did not work for me. My guess is it had something to do with the Nvidia driver software still being installed on my computer. So I again attempted to remove the drivers. At this point I couldn't even remove the Nvidia software as nothing happened when I pressed the uninstall button. I ended up having to reinsert the Nvidia card, and reinstall the drivers, in order to uninstall the drivers. After I restarted and reinstalled the AMD card, the computer, like before would no longer boot to the desktop. All I would get was a mouse pointer that would appear and disappear every couple of seconds and a Number lock button on the keyboard that would be turning on and off at the same interval. If I reinsert the Nvidia card the problem goes away, but obviously I don't want to keep the old card in my computer.

My question is: Why would the computer boot with the Nvidia card when the Nvidia drivers are uninstalled and yet not boot with the AMD card when the AMD drivers ARE installed?

Security :: Transmitting Encrypted Passwords In URL

Aug 10, 2013

Sometimes when web sites logon automatically with your password - these passwords have to be stored somewhere - and transmitted. Since these are often transmitted in the URL anybody can intercept your data if they are so inclined - so a hacker doesn't even NEED to use any password cracking technology -- just using your data stream presumably they could logon to your Bank account and empty it.

How the system works but the password (encrypted) has to be transmitted in the data sent to the target website and most of the data string is initially sent as a string in the URL.

Explain either is this TRUE - or is it FALSE. In any case especially with Banks etc I always set to completely logoff -- however it doesn't prevent the essential weakness that a string is sent to the target web site over the public Internet and this string can be intercepted - and replicated.

How To Start Computer Without Entering A Password

Feb 11, 2014

I have my laptop set up so I don't have to enter a password each time I start it. But I recently changed my password in my Microsoft account by going into Microsoft.com. Now when I start my laptop, it stops half way giving a message that it has an invalid password. At this point, I just enter my new password and it finishes booting up with no problem.

So my question is how do I synchronize the password that my laptop is using to the new changed password in my Microsoft account?

Just as a note, I forgot the password that I had originally set up on my laptop.

Debugging :: BSOD When Entering Website

Dec 6, 2013

Unfortunately I forgot all my BSOD analysis skills, so I'll give you the chance. I just bought an ASUS Zenbook for studies, which is very pleasant. Though, today when I visited a website called The Verge, I got a BSOD. Earlier today when I visited the site, it froze for a second or two.

Usually it happens when the computer is running on the battery. I experienced a sudden shutdown when it's on battery, which is notable imo.

Anything you can pull off this one dump?

Manually Entering Data And Renaming Files?

Sep 10, 2013

I've recently got a new laptop with windows 8. I am in the process of trying to upload my cd collection to my computer. Some of my cds are old mix disks that when ripped by windows media player do not have all of the information properly loaded such as artist/album/etc... So I started manually entering the data and renaming the files, this is where the problem comes.

Sporadically the laptop will erase/forget the information I've entered into the song files and will reorganize them into a different folder. It likes to send them to an "unknown artist" folder.I am entering the data by right clicking the file, selecting properties, and in the details tab is where I type everything in.

Accounts :: Windows 8 - Auto Log Off When Entering Password

Booted mini windows xp from hirensbootcd, checked registery and nothing fancy there in the winlogon strings.
I did manage to enable the guest account and add an extra administrator account. The guest account works (no taskbar tho) but everything else seemed to work. The freshly made admin account did not work, same story as my girlfriends account, enter password > back to login screen.

Attaching are Disk Management screenshot and bcdedit-enum-all log.
