I have a DELL Inspiron 15R touchscreen with WIN 8. First exposure to WIN 8 but I am learning to adjust. I have Administrator and one User Account set up. Every few weeks, the User Account says "password expiring" and I have to change the password. Is there a way to remove this time parameter? Admin account does not seem to require it.

I've got a sony viao ultra book running Windows 8.1. My user account is set to open with a four digit pin. Unfortunately, although I know the PIN number, I have forgotten both the user and the admin password. So I can't load any new software as it asks me for the admin password every time. View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a user with a machine that was setup with Win 8.1 Home. The machine has been upgraded to 8.1 Pro and joined to a domain (WinSrv 2003). I need to get the content/configuration from their old local machine user profile to their new domain user profile.
I tried to copy the contents of their ../users/<name>/.. folder from the local user profile to the new domain user profile (after they had logged in once, and then logged off). This did not work. When I did the copy, I grabbed all files, including hidden...was that my mistake, or is the issue broader?
In the end....they want their old stuff and configuration under their new credentials/profile.
i have recently migrated to Windows 8 from Win7 Pro and am coming to grips with the elevated security MS has dropped on us.Either by design or accident when i installed Windows 8 i made my account a standard account not an Admin account.
Following the steps outlined on this site, which has been highly useful, i have learned that the home edition of Windows 8, which i have, is rather more useless in changing many settings that were taken for granted in win7.
My issue in changing my account to an admin account is after successfully activating the admin account and signing into that, the changes i make in that account to my standard account, are not saved or reflected when i log back into my standard (or what should now be an admin) account.
My standard account remains a standard account no matter how many times i log into the admin account and change the account type.I am more than frustrated by the lack of ease Windows 8 has infused into what should be a simple process of having my account be the administrator account.
I bought a shiny new laptop yesterday with windows 8 pre-installed. After setting a few things up, i restarted the computer for the first time. At this time the computer downloaded many updates. On start up since my user account has been downgraded to a guest account. This is the only account on the computer, as such i do not have administrator rights and i am unable to log in as an administrator.
May I have to restore the computer back to factory settings but how to do this without being the administrator.
I have a dell laptop that I want to gift to a family member. When I set it up new I linked it to my hotmail account so when it boots up it shows my email address and I login. I want to keep the laptop just the way it is but remove my login and email and assign a new administrator. Once with windows 7 I messed with the admin account. View 1 Replies View RelatedHow to correct user accounts in windows 8 Pro on new HP Pavilion g7 2246nr, I set notebook up using Microsoft account then called Microsoft when problems started, and we decided to switched to a local account. They created a new user account, then copied all my files to it. But I ended up with i administrator account that could not be deleted. That worked but my files are broken up between 3 other user accounts. I spoke with Microsoft to try and consolidate the accounts and they used a command line in cmd, run as an administrator, but it did not finish, or I may have cut it off by accident.
I am still working with the system but it has problems. I have reloaded the software 3 times so for. How to correct the problem without reloading all the software again? Also after setting up sharepoint in Office Pro Plus, it created another administrator account in UAC. I did not think this was going to happen? Right now in the UAC I have two administrator accounts with the sane name, In c:users there 5 with the temp file they created. What that command line they attempted to use was to correct and consolidate the user accounts.

Bought a new laptop for my daughter with win 8 and got it set up. Being the newbie I am, every time my daughter starts her laptop my name appears on the user account. She wants thi changed. How I change the name of the user account. This is the only account on the laptop and it has administrator status (I did however get name of computer right) ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 2-month-old Dell Inspiron 15 notebook running Windows 8.0, and trying to upgrade to 8.1. I have plenty of HD space and 4GB memory. I have 2 user accounts, one with admin designation. I want to change the admin to the other, but I cannot. When I try to change the user accounts, I get a message requiring the account with admin to OK any changes.
When I enter that account's password, I get a message that the password is incorrect. I changed the password in the "reset password" site online, but that password doesn't work in the change users part of the PC. So I am stuck. Right now, I cannot affect any changes to the system, because that requires the OK of the admin user account, and that in turn requires a password, which seems not to match the password that I entered for that account.

This annoyed me a lot more than it should have, because i have tried changing the user name through control panel, but that just changes the display name, not the folder's name. How do i rename it?
I recently got my laptop's hard drive replaced by OEM under warranty. I soon realized my user account was at C:UsersAcer. I want to change the name of my user folder to C:UsersNick. I'm wondering what is the best way to go about doing this. I followed the tutorial on renaming user accounts and it worked except that my user folder is still C:UsersAcer. I thought about making a new user account with the proper name and copying whatever I needed over to the new account but I don't think thats going to turn out too well (programs looking for a C:UsersAcer folder that no longer exists)....

My main login screen has been setup to show three (3) users but shortly after upgrading, it started showing a fourth user. The user name for this fourth user is "zqtjerxnjfcz". When I clicked on it, it started the customizing process for a new user. As soon as I could I signed out and logged in under my own account and then deleted this new unwanted account but it keeps returning, usually after a restart or signing out and back in.

My problem is that I am not able to create/change any user account from control panel. After traversing to Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsUser Accounts.
There are all the different links named as below:
Change your account name
Change your account type
Manage other account etc..
However when I click on any of these links, nothing happens at all !!!
What could be the possible reason of this? Window is updated, I am able to do other stuff that only admin can do for example: installing/uninstalling software, running system tools etc. Moreover I am able to make changes to user accounts from Computer Management.
The user account is automatically logged off from my PC Windows 8 though the antivirus program is still running. Thus, I have to reenter the password to check the program running status. I had to delete the account and recreate it. I created the same User ID and same PW but I can't decrypt the files now...
I swore I've done that before and regained access to the files. Was that an old WinXP thing?
Even though I know the password is the cert used to encrypt/decrypt seeded by time or something else random as well?
I.E., are the files lost because I didn't back-up my cert/private key?

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy grandmother was recently hacked and she changed all her passwords herself (yay!). However she did not write down her new local user account password for her laptop.
I tried downloading OPHCrack, I burned it as an ISO file and put it on a DVD-R(only thing I had on hand) and i changed the boot order on her BIOS menu to had the DVD drive as the first priority. It does not run....I hear the disk drive moving, or spinning but the program does not run. Are there any other options or do I have to do a complete system restore to bypass this? Also if that is what I have to do how do I do that without being in her control panel?

View 9 Replies View RelatedWindows is asking me for a password despite I've never had a password.
Here's what happened:
I've never had a password and choose during the win install to have 1 local account without password.
I used to have a user/login name with an non ascii character (é), and it was causing me some trouble. Hence I decided to change it with ascii only characters. Control Panel, users etc ... properties, changed the name of the local user.
Reboot, and boom, Windows asks me for a password and is displaying the former user name !! But there's no option to change the user name, I've read that there should be a back arrow but it's not here (probably because windows "thinks" there's no point since there is only 1 user).
I don't know what to do, I used a Linux live usb distro to use some tools that can reset password and unlock account, however:
1/ it can only reset password, which seems not to be the issue here, the issue is the wrong user name
2/ the linux tool shows 1 local user with the last update name
So I'm guessing windows is not using the proper name to login, but doesn't provide any mean to change it.

I deleted my main windows user account and ever since ive been working tirelessly to try and fix the problem. Every time I boot up it automatically takes me to a temporary profile with the same name as the previous one that i deleted and because its a temp profile i cant access most things, and believe me I've tried everything (system restore, hidden admin) but nothing will work and i just want to create a new user and forget that one, is this possible or will i have to reset my pc?

I've looked in 'CUsers' and the folder is still in there, how I can reinstate it? I also had a look at the restore point so I could 'roll back' but there's not a point in there from before the update, I thought update always set a restore point automatically?

I have made a new admin local account and have deleted the old admin local account but when I go into C:/Users the deleted user account files are still there. When I go to delete these files, a message comes up telling me that I don't have the permission to delete these files. I have read online and searched alot but came across no fix. I have tried turning of windows features, then I tried deleting the files through command prompt using rd /s /q but still no luck. I tried this method using safe mode command prompt but still no luck.
