Oct 18, 2013I upgraded to from 8 to 8.1 last night and now my main account is not showing up on the front screen for me to be able to log into it. All the other accounts are there. I've looked in 'CUsers' and the folder is still in there, how I can reinstate it? I also had a look at the restore point so I could 'roll back' but there's not a point in there from before the update, I thought update always set a restore point automatically?

Aug 28, 2014I have a user with a machine that was setup with Win 8.1 Home. The machine has been upgraded to 8.1 Pro and joined to a domain (WinSrv 2003). I need to get the content/configuration from their old local machine user profile to their new domain user profile.
I tried to copy the contents of their ../users/<name>/.. folder from the local user profile to the new domain user profile (after they had logged in once, and then logged off). This did not work. When I did the copy, I grabbed all files, including hidden...was that my mistake, or is the issue broader?
In the end....they want their old stuff and configuration under their new credentials/profile.

My question is: how to enforce Windows 8 to displayy ALL user accounts on the start screen, so that one can choose either of them at startup, independant on which was loged on previously.

I'm looking for a way to display the local account name across two lines, like what is done if I were signed in with a Microsoft account. That is, the first name in a larger font and the surname in a smaller font on the next line.

Jun 19, 2014I am involved in prepping several Panasonic Toughpads for deployment in our environment w/ Windows 8.1 installed. While prepping, we are logging in with domain accounts that have some domain admin privileges for various setups on the local machine.
Upon completion of setup, logging in as the assigned domain user, which, on these systems, will be a local admin. However, after a few seconds, where the account name is displayed on the top right corner of the start menu, it shows the logged in domain username--as it should--then quickly changes to show the previously logged in domain admin user's name.
This is phenomenon is occurring for myself and two of my coworkers who are using isolated domain admin logins assigned to them.
Troubleshooting that has already happened: restarted the system, deleted the domain admin's user folder and associated registry key in the ProfileList to no avail. Logged in as yet a different user, and back to the assigned user's account but still showing my domain admin name in the account name. Is this getting circular yet?

Oct 14, 2013I bought a shiny new laptop yesterday with windows 8 pre-installed. After setting a few things up, i restarted the computer for the first time. At this time the computer downloaded many updates. On start up since my user account has been downgraded to a guest account. This is the only account on the computer, as such i do not have administrator rights and i am unable to log in as an administrator.
May I have to restore the computer back to factory settings but how to do this without being the administrator.

May 11, 2013How to correct user accounts in windows 8 Pro on new HP Pavilion g7 2246nr, I set notebook up using Microsoft account then called Microsoft when problems started, and we decided to switched to a local account. They created a new user account, then copied all my files to it. But I ended up with i administrator account that could not be deleted. That worked but my files are broken up between 3 other user accounts. I spoke with Microsoft to try and consolidate the accounts and they used a command line in cmd, run as an administrator, but it did not finish, or I may have cut it off by accident.
I am still working with the system but it has problems. I have reloaded the software 3 times so for. How to correct the problem without reloading all the software again? Also after setting up sharepoint in Office Pro Plus, it created another administrator account in UAC. I did not think this was going to happen? Right now in the UAC I have two administrator accounts with the sane name, In c:users there 5 with the temp file they created. What that command line they attempted to use was to correct and consolidate the user accounts.
How to correct the problem without reloading all the software again.
Trying To Remove Windows 8 User Account Files
Jul 27, 2013So when I was installing Windows 8 Pro (which came as an upgrade from a previous version of Windows) I created an account. Let's call it "DC". During the upgrade Windows used up quite a lot of space for that account: about 25 GB.
Now when Windows 8 is installed I went into the Control Panel / Users and removed the "DC" account. I also made sure to check the box to remove all of its files.
But when I go the "C:UsersDC" folder on the hard drive, I see that the DC files are still there:
If I do it's properties it shows that it still takes 25 GB of space, that I want to reclaim. (I have a 256 GB SSD, so as you see I can't waste that much space!)
So I log in as a built-in administrator and try to delete those files (by deleting the "C:UsersDC" folder in Windows Explorer.) After a quick investigation it turns out that the most of the space is used up by the "Windows.old" file. But no matter what I do, it always results in this window:
I tried booting in a safe mode and it still gave me the same error. How to remove that "C:UsersDC" folder?

For example the first one I created has a bunch of folders I put on the desktop recovered from my old computer, but when I log on with the other account they are not there. I also installed ms office on my computer with the first user- but it is not available to the other one.
Is there a way to link these 2 so I can still have different logins but access the same files?

Jul 13, 2014So, I wanted to download a game from the windows store and had to create a Live/microsoft account. After doning so win 8 made that account the account that I use to sigh-in to windows. Didn't wanted that so I went to user managment and deleted the account from thare. The problem is that I also accidenly deleted my windows user account as well.
After I restarted, I got to the password screen and my windows user was gone, just "other user". I tryed to enter the windows user name and password but nothing. the screen also showed the microsoft acount name but here also the password dident work (probably because a deleted them both from the system...)

I want to keep the laptop just the way it is but remove my login and email and assign a new administrator. Once with windows 7 I messed with the admin account. Sep 15, 2014I have recently installed 8.1 on my desktop with 3 local user accounts (no Microsoft accounts) and no user passwords, and Guest account Off. I have bypassed the lock screen but whenever the computer is switched on or a user signs out, the OS loads the last user instead of going to the user select screen. Something that all Windows OSs have done from go to Win 7. I can back arrow which does display the user select screen.
Or more importantly, any way to make it act like all previous Windows systems. I would not be fussed if this was a single user computer.

Jun 26, 2014I have a 2-month-old Dell Inspiron 15 notebook running Windows 8.0, and trying to upgrade to 8.1. I have plenty of HD space and 4GB memory. I have 2 user accounts, one with admin designation. I want to change the admin to the other, but I cannot. When I try to change the user accounts, I get a message requiring the account with admin to OK any changes.
When I enter that account's password, I get a message that the password is incorrect. I changed the password in the "reset password" site online, but that password doesn't work in the change users part of the PC. So I am stuck. Right now, I cannot affect any changes to the system, because that requires the OK of the admin user account, and that in turn requires a password, which seems not to match the password that I entered for that account.

Aug 28, 2013I recently got my laptop's hard drive replaced by OEM under warranty. I soon realized my user account was at C:UsersAcer. I want to change the name of my user folder to C:UsersNick. I'm wondering what is the best way to go about doing this. I followed the tutorial on renaming user accounts and it worked except that my user folder is still C:UsersAcer. I thought about making a new user account with the proper name and copying whatever I needed over to the new account but I don't think thats going to turn out too well (programs looking for a C:UsersAcer folder that no longer exists)....

Nov 15, 2013Recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 on three PC's on home network but now I'm having a problem on my ASUS VivoTab Smart Tablet.
My main login screen has been setup to show three (3) users but shortly after upgrading, it started showing a fourth user. The user name for this fourth user is "zqtjerxnjfcz". When I clicked on it, it started the customizing process for a new user. As soon as I could I signed out and logged in under my own account and then deleted this new unwanted account but it keeps returning, usually after a restart or signing out and back in.

Jun 10, 2013I am using windows 8 pro OS. I have only one local account on my machine. My account is already in Administrator groups. I have checked that.
My problem is that I am not able to create/change any user account from control panel. After traversing to Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsUser Accounts.
There are all the different links named as below:
Change your account name
Change your account type
Manage other account etc..
However when I click on any of these links, nothing happens at all !!!
What could be the possible reason of this? Window is updated, I am able to do other stuff that only admin can do for example: installing/uninstalling software, running system tools etc. Moreover I am able to make changes to user accounts from Computer Management.
