Accounts :: Windows 8 - Auto Log Off When Entering Password
Nov 18, 2013Yesterday I did a few things on laptop, nothing special. Shut down the laptop, girlfriend tried to log in a few hours later and upon entering her password she gets kicked back out to the login screen.
Booted mini windows xp from hirensbootcd, checked registery and nothing fancy there in the winlogon strings.
I did manage to enable the guest account and add an extra administrator account. The guest account works (no taskbar tho) but everything else seemed to work. The freshly made admin account did not work, same story as my girlfriends account, enter password > back to login screen.

Mar 5, 2013I have a new Samsung lap top nd set up the Microsoft account to an email address - it is the main one for my computer but wont accept the password, I have changed it several times and each time I try again I have the same problem - I can't get into things as its looking for the password which it wont accept! I have deleted the account hoping that would prompt something - but no - even more problems!! I do have another account that I have set up and have added as an additional user - how do I get this one onto the main one for my lap top? as I am no further forward except wishing I hadn't bought the lap top or windows *!

Can make the password visible, it is correct. Running no version of webroot. Restore the computer to a time when the password worked, it never has even though it is correct for signing into my account on the micro website. Changed my password and still no success.

Nov 28, 2013I just bought a new Windows 8 Dell Vostro 5470 laptop. I signed in with my Live account, which I use on my main computer everyday.
I upgraded into Windows 8.1, and set up fingerprint authentication as well. I didn't have a problem signing in with it, nor with my 12-character password (which I used today on my PC to log in).
Last night I locked the laptop (from the ctrl+alt+del screen) and left it. By the time I got back, it went into hibernation or something. Meaning to say, it looked turned off. I didn't touch it until today.
When I turn it back on today, I couldn't sign in. Neither the fingerprint wasn't working, nor my password - but then on a closer look, I saw that I couldn't enter more than 9 characters in the password field! Restart didn't work. Reminder - my password is 12 characters long and I used it just the day before.
Disclaimer: this is a brand new laptop, nothing is installed on it. The only things I did with it were Windows Update, upgrade to 8.1, set up fingerprint log-in and surf the web a little bit. I don't mind totally resetting everything, I just don't know how to do it.

Nov 8, 2012I need to find out why my account randomly asks me to re-enter my password. They do seem random (i.e. not a set time interval, not after system changes, computer is not going to sleep mode, etc...) and I do not see any setting anywhere that would cause a system login to time-out. I am providing three screen shots of where it asks this when it happens and here is the text in case people need to search for this same problem in the future.

Oct 26, 2013I removed the password login screen on my wife's Windows 8 laptop, so the laptop boots up to the Desktop with no login requirement. She no longer has Administrator privileges. Control Panel/User Accounts show a password protected Administrator user and Local Account Password protected Administrator user.
I want to run Chkdsk since her HD has a read sector problem but need full Administrator privileges to do so.
How do I restore the password protected Administrator logins?

Feb 11, 2014I have my laptop set up so I don't have to enter a password each time I start it. But I recently changed my password in my Microsoft account by going into Microsoft.com. Now when I start my laptop, it stops half way giving a message that it has an invalid password. At this point, I just enter my new password and it finishes booting up with no problem.
So my question is how do I synchronize the password that my laptop is using to the new changed password in my Microsoft account?
Just as a note, I forgot the password that I had originally set up on my laptop.

Sep 15, 2014Windows is asking me for a password despite I've never had a password.
Here's what happened:
I've never had a password and choose during the win install to have 1 local account without password.
I used to have a user/login name with an non ascii character (é), and it was causing me some trouble. Hence I decided to change it with ascii only characters. Control Panel, users etc ... properties, changed the name of the local user.
Reboot, and boom, Windows asks me for a password and is displaying the former user name !! But there's no option to change the user name, I've read that there should be a back arrow but it's not here (probably because windows "thinks" there's no point since there is only 1 user).
I don't know what to do, I used a Linux live usb distro to use some tools that can reset password and unlock account, however:
1/ it can only reset password, which seems not to be the issue here, the issue is the wrong user name
2/ the linux tool shows 1 local user with the last update name
So I'm guessing windows is not using the proper name to login, but doesn't provide any mean to change it.

Sep 15, 2014I have my Windows 8.1 PC's password policy set so that a password is not required when waking from sleep/shutdown. I used to be able to wake the PC from sleep and not put in a password, and I could turn the PC on after a shutdown without having to put in a password either. Since last week, though, when I turn my PC on, it will boot to the Windows loading screen and after loading for a bit, it will jump into the login screen and immediately report a login error that the username or password is incorrect. This happens before I even get a chance to type a username or password. The fact that I have to type in the username and password is strange because I have the PC set to bypass that option.

Feb 8, 2014The problem is i can't connect to microsoft to login or use microsoft account on my windows app. When i open windows store apps message shows "Youre PC isn't connected to internet. When i tried to switch to microsoft account and login my account then it loads after that it show "The service isn't available right now - Try again later." On my Facebook problem. I can open normally my facebook account/page read feeds, upload pics, upload vids. But when i tried to watch facebook videos post/feeds just loading the black screen videoit keeps on loading no luck to watch it or play. Youtube videos normally playing. I tried to check all even my graphics card, windows display tried to check everything even ask from others forum until now no answer and no luck.
I can open all my problems and error normally in other computer. So i think the problem is in my PC or windows. But tried to scan for error and troubleshoot no problems.

2. It may ask for a Security Code to verify because the account doesn't exist or confirm it is yours.
3. You will be able to "see" Create Local Account. Just click on it and enjoy.

Jul 25, 2013I set up the user account using my Microsoft email account. I would like to use a different password on my desktop vs the email password. My email password since it is accessible via web is strong 16 characters long, random characters password and changed often. I would like to change the desktop password to something I can remember, still strong, but I don't change it as often since you have to get physical access to my desktop.
I assumed once I linked to the Microsoft account I could change the password on the machine without it changing my email password.
Is this not possible? I would prefer not to have to lower the security of my email account just to accommodate Windows 8. Never a problem before as my email clients stored the password.

Jan 2, 2014During the night my windows desktop with Windows 8.1 pre-release was update to Windows 8.1 release.
Of course it deleted my Favorites in IE & updated to IE11. It also deleted all my contacts in Mail.
However when I logged into my other desktop using my MS account, it updated IE Favorites & Mail contacts to 0.
I had this info on my portable & put this info on a thumb drive. There is no way to import or export this info into IE11 or Mail.
Is there something I missed on this procedure?
I was under the impression that I had control of my computer & not MS!
