Computer Not Entering Sleep State - Set It At 30 Minutes
Aug 4, 2014
As the title says recently my computer is not getting into sleep state although i've set it at 30 minutes.
Tried a lot of stuff like energy-report from power cfg:
Errors
System Availability Requests:System Required Request
The device or driver has made a request to prevent the system from automatically entering sleep.
Driver Name FileSystemsrvnet
Though i cannot find which device is causing it.
Already checked all devices in device manager but didn't find anything related.
Computer is going to sleep if i click it , just refuses to go automatically.

I just got a new Win 8 computer. I love it, however it wakes from sleep mode every 15 minutes on the dot. It will wake for about 2 minutes than sleep again.
Is this something it should do in order to get some air flow every once in a while or can I stop it from doing this? I have searched around online and tried everything i have come across. I turned off the setting that allows programs to wake the computer, as well as made sure the ethernet connection doesn't wake it.

I have my laptop set up so I don't have to enter a password each time I start it. But I recently changed my password in my Microsoft account by going into Microsoft.com. Now when I start my laptop, it stops half way giving a message that it has an invalid password. At this point, I just enter my new password and it finishes booting up with no problem.
So my question is how do I synchronize the password that my laptop is using to the new changed password in my Microsoft account?
Just as a note, I forgot the password that I had originally set up on my laptop.

Is it possible to change the default sleep state to S3 ? So everytime i sleep command is sent to the computer, it would enter advanced S3 sleep instead of just the normal sleep state.
The reason i want to do that is because i bought a MCE remote (Rosewill RHRC-11002). It has a sleep button and i want to use it to make my HTPC enter S3 Sleep mode...

issue with my laptop where I can't allow it to enter sleep mode or else it will restart/appear to have restarted the next time I wake it up. At first I thought it might be a power options issue, but I made sure that the computer was set to sleep and not restart when I close the lid. I've checked the bluescreen viewer and the cause of the restart seems to come from a driver power state failure coming from ntoskrnl.exe+1fcc1e, hal.dll+6a37, and storport.sys+33f0.
I've already run sfc/scannow to check for damaged files and I was also able to replace them using a DISM command, so now scanning the computer doesn't run into any errors, but this driver error still persists.
Sidenote: The driver errors mainly started after I reinstalled Kaspersky onto my computer to fix some issues that I had with it. Before that I was getting a couple of kernel data inpage errors, the latest of which occurred June 1.

I've been getting persistent BSOD's when attempting to wake up my computer (Lenovo Twist u230) from sleep. I am also sporadically getting Kernal Data Inpage Error BSOD while using my computer.
My machine is Windows 8, installed from factory with a recent refresh done. SFC /SCANNOW and DISM both come up clean. All of my hardware diagnostics are also clean.

I'm having a BSOD problem. After walking computer from sleep mode, within 1-2 minutes it will get a BSOD with the "driver power state failure" error and restart, but interestingly I never get the error the moment I wake up the computer. I'm using a Lenovo IdeaPad Y510P with Windows 8.1 64-bit. I already tried uninstalling the Intel HD 4000 driver, restarting computer, and installing the one on Lenovo's site (as this was suggested on the Lenovo forum as a common fix) but it didn't work.
The problem only started occurring after one of the following:
- Updating Malwarebytes to latest last week
- Installing a Windows update last week (there were 3 installed components, 1 of them was an Intel HD 4000 driver update, forgot what the other 2 were)
- Updating GeForce Experience and latest NVIDIA Graphics Driver (337.88), it included NVIDIA PhysX System Software 9.13.1220

My Windows 8.1 pro desktop system,is going to sleep after a few mins of staying idle.I was having windows 7 before this and I never faced any issue. It was recently that I upgraded my OS to windows 8.1 pro. This is a clean install of the OS.
By staying idle, I mean, I am reading some newspaper or some pdf file or something like that online without any activitiy on the keyboard. After a few mins, it automatically goes into sleep mode. This is making me mad, as I could be in the middle of something while reading documents and it goes into sleep.
In the power options, I have changed it to High Performance plan, I have verified that, "Turn of Display" and "Put the computer to sleep" options are "Never". When I click on "Advanced Power Settings" , I can see that , under sleep, "sleep after" is never. Allow Hybrid sleep is "Off". Hibernate after is "Never".
I just wanted to add, that the event viewer shows the following entries...
The system is entering sleep.
Sleep Reason: System Idle
The kernel power manager has initiated a shutdown transition.
The system firmware has changed the processor's memory type range registers (MTRRs) across a sleep state transition (S4). This can result in reduced resume performance.
The system has returned from a low power state.
Sleep Time: 2014-06-21T05:51:33.970250600Z
Wake Time: 2014-06-21T05:52:23.968079800Z
I also tried to create a new power profile but this did not work. I ran sfc scanow and also fixed errors. I have all latest windows updates. I have also tried DISM
I can't even read something without fear and I have to keep moving my mouse every minute and I can't even concentrate.

After a windows update crashed during startup, my laptop is taking 20+ minutes on the "welcome" loading bar after you login. The login screen itself it very laggy and takes 5 minutes to navigate. The "Lenovo" loading screens upon startup takes 3 or 4 minutes.
Occasionally a black screen will appear and I cant get past it in the loading process.

I have a Dell XPS 8700 Desktop, has 8GB of RAM and a 1TB hard drive, running Windows 8.1 which I had installed the day it came out..the PC I purchased in September 2013..for the past few weeks I have noticed how when I shut down the pc that it can take up to 4 minutes to shut down, the monitor will go black but the power button the tower will remain white til it turns off, it used to turn off in a matter of seconds, now its minutes..same issue for restart, takes about 3 minutes to restart and no one from Dell can figure out what the problem is..all I had installed in December were updates from microsoft thats it, other than that nothing new has been installed. Yesterday I got a notification from Dell on my PC notifying me that I should update my BIOS which was A4 to A6 which I did and still the same issue..talked to five technicians and no one can figure it out, been told maybe its software related and I need to reformat the hard drive, I feel that would be a waste of time, if there was an actual cause I would do it, but to format my hard drive with no known cause of this problem would be stupid, it would just happen again.

I have had to do a complete reset of my computer recently and ever since I did that I have not had the option of putting my computer to sleep even after checking all my drivers to see if they are up to date. I am also having a problem where when I turn on my computer It will stay a black screen even though all signs point to it working just nothing shows on the screen. After a complete shutdown by holding the power button and turning it back on it works but doesn't let me get into BIOS.

My laptop won't go to sleep when It's plugged in for some reason, though if I take out the power cable it will sleep. If I have the power cable out, send it to sleep then plug the power cable in this doesn't wake it up.
I've gone into the power option's but I'm not too sure what I can really change to make it work.
I've changed the multimedia setting's to allow the computer to sleep.
I've tried the different power plans - same behaviour.

Every few days my computer will BSOD when waking from sleep. The screen will display this message as the error "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL cmudaxp.sys". Also sometimes the system will crash during sleep but no mini dump will be created. I have looked at the minidumps that were created and the only thing its pointed to were the cmudaxp.sys driver, hal.dll and ntoskrnl.exe. I tried reinstalling the 8.1.8.1822 drivers for the soundcard but that did not solve the problem. Today i reverted back to older drivers 8.0.8.1821 and will see if this fixes it. .dmp files included in attachment.
System:
i5-2500k @4.4ghz
Hyper 212 Plus Cooler
EVGA 780ti SC
8gb Corsair Vengeance Ram

I have a custom built computer running Windows 8.1 64-bit. Recently, it stopped going to sleep on it's own (except the first time that the power plan is followed after boot). Otherwise, the monitor goes to sleep and that is it. After a bunch of other attempts and fixes, I have found that there is a driver that is blatantly disregarding powercfg settings (as seen here: [URL] .....). This has been going on for over a week. I have run sfc /scannow, and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth with no luck.

I took my computer to a computer repairs to get my fan fixed and when I got it back I found that my computer kept crashing when waking from sleep. It happens every time and is inconvenient as it just resets. It also takes longer to turn on, it has a black screen for a short amount of time, it was not like this before, I can put up with the added turning on time but I need to be able to sleep and wake my laptop without issues.

The display and the sleep feature timers do not work. I just did a complete restore to try and correct this problem and another problem, which was no restore points and no ability to create one. The restore points are working for now, I mean that I was able to create a restore point. The display and sleep timer, not so, still a problem.
I've had this desktop Windows 8 computer since November and honestly I don't know if this has been a problem the whole time or not. Definitely, not the display, I know it has worked, but the sleep timer I'm not sure. I set the timer and just assume it sleeps and then goes into hibernation after a certain amount of time. With all the refreshing and restoring and changing over to this computer, I've not been paying much attention to the sound of the fan or the missing orange color on the power button (not visible, on the side of the computer).
I've set the timer through the Power Options feature in the Control Panel to 10 minutes for the sleep and to turn off the display to 3 minutes. Neither of them respond after set times. The computer is still wide awake and the display is not gone.
I have also gone to the "Change Advance Power Settings" menu box and turned off the hybrid sleep, which didn't work, and the Multimedia Settings in this menu box to turn on the setting "Allow The Computer To Sleep". Neither of these fixes did anything.
How can the computer not respond to something so basic and fundamental to its design?
Lastly, I'm wondering how this idea of powering down works at all. What I would like is for the computer to sleep after 20 minutes and then go into hibernation after 45 minutes. This would be when I'm done for the day. I have set the hibernation time in the "Change Advance Power Settings" menu box, but of course that does not respond either.

I recently bought a new Dell Inspiron laptop with Windows 8 (first time 8 user). I am loving the computer so far and don't mind Windows 8. It is not nearly as bad as people have told me, just takes getting used to.
However, I have had a problem when I put my computer to sleep. The screen shuts off and the power button blinks slowly like a slept computer would. However, the computer continues to feel as warm as it does when it is on and running. I also had it unplugged overnight after I put it to sleep, and in the morning, the battery had died, which shouldn't happen when it is asleep. I am far from an expert but I figure that while the computer goes to sleep, some program may still be running to keep using all that power.
How can I fix this problem because I need to transport my laptop around, but don't want to put it in an enclosed case if it stays warm while asleep?

After my upgrade to 8.1 Pro my computer lost the ability to sleep/hibernate. After following many tips on here, I managed to get sleep & hibernation onto the shutdown menu so manual operatin works okay.
The automatic mode is still a work in progress but I'm wondering if I've managed to get it to go into automatic sleep mode but not as yet hibernation.
I prefer to use hibernation so don't really know alot about sleep mode - I've got it configured to go into hibernation (10 minutes ) before sleep (15 minutes) in the power options.
After a period of time the computer will automatically attempt to enter either sleep or hibernation mode - not sure which. The screen switches off and the cpu increases in volume as if its consuming more power. The blue light flashes slowly which to me signifies that it has entered sleep mode. The computer has in effect shut down but sounds like its in overdrive with either the cpu or fan going ten to the dozen. Clicking the mouse wakes it up and brings it back to the sign-on screen.
So what's going on here? Is this a failed attempt at sleep mode as trying manual sleep brings the same result. It certainly doesn't go into automatic hibernation which is something I'm ultimately trying to resolve.
So I'm not sure if I've solved automatic sleep or not as its unbearably noisy and not something I can put up with.
