Jul 31, 2014Apparently there's supposed to be a checkbox that reads "Show store apps on taskbar" but that isn't there! I have a version of Windows 8.1 that doesn't have this option. I really liked this feature. This worked for me until I installed a fresh installation of Windows 8.1.

Oct 13, 2013My laptop is top of the range spec one with Core i7, 8GB RAM, Dedicated GPU, every thing else work super fast, i am very annoyed by this one problem which i have been observing When ever i create a new folder/file or download a new file or rename a new file it does not immediately show up, if i try to open the renamed file it says windows cannot find that file (because its actually been renamed but does not yet show up in the folder), Every time i have to press F5 to refresh the folder or the desktop so the computer refreshes and shows the changes made (i.e new folder, renamed folder, new file etc...)
Is there a way so computer immediately shows the change rather than me having to close and open that folder or refresh the page every time i rename or create a file ?
Setting View Option For Single Folder
Mar 16, 2014When I change the view option of a folder; IE List to Details etc; it changes for all the folders. I'd like to be able to just change the view for that single folder. It's really annoying having to reset the view with every new folder I decide to open.

Feb 28, 2013I have an external HD connected to my Windows 8 machine. It's split into 2 partitions with lots of files and folder on each. On one partition while in Windows Explorer the "New Item" option only has "Folder" as one of it's items. Same if I right click, "Folder" is the only item. On the other partition "New Item" shows a list of items including text file, bitmap file, shortcut etc. Something happened recently as I have text files I've created since a few weeks ago. Also, if I create a new folder, while in that folder the "New Item" shows the list of items text file, bitmap file, shortcut etc. How to change this?

Apr 26, 2014I'm using Windows 8.1 x64.
In the MUSIC folder I have 1 folder for each artist. In each Artist folder I have 1 folder for each Album. And in each Album folder I have all the songs, with the cover art embedded in them, in every single .mp3 I have.
In folder options I've set folders to show thumbnails, not icon. So, each Album folder's icon is the album art of the .mp3 files it has inside. BUT in the MUSIC folder, all the Artist folders don't show the album arts they have inside. Their icon is not a folder's icon neither, it's like thumbnails of folders:
And I'd like them to show the thumbnails of the albums they have inside. Well, the maximum amount of images that a folder icon can show is 2, so if I have more than 1 album in an Artist folder, then the icon should be 2 random thumbnails (of 2 albums).
An example here:
I put a song (with embedded cover art) in the desktop. The archive's icon is the cover art.
Now I create a NEW FOLDER (the icon is a default folder icon) called "Album". I put there the .mp3 file. Now, the "Album" folder's icon is the cover art of the .mp3 file.
Then I create ANOTHER new folder called "Artist" (default folder icon), and I put there the "Album" folder. And here, the "Artist" folder's icon is NOT the cover art, but the icon of the image above, and I want it to show the cover art.
Notice that all album's folders have only .mp3 files, not hidden images like "folder.jpg" or anything else, just .mp3 files.
What drives me crazy is that like a week ago, Artist folders were showing cover arts of the albums they had inside (they picked up 2 random images, cause folders can show up to 2 thumbnails).
Folder View Want To Make All Folders Show Details
Apr 21, 2013Win 7 was easy to make all your folders show details view and not what windows thought you should view it as.
I can't find a way to do that in Win 8. I have googled it many times and all attempts have failed. I have changed several folders to details view only to have them revert back to what windows wants me to view them as.
I would like to do this for all my folders and libraries, which I understand may not work for libraries.
Is there a registry setting I can set to force all views to be detail view?
Accounts :: Deleted User Account / Selected Keep Files Option But Folder Empty?

Started a new account, with admin privileges. Deleted old account also with admin privileges. Selected the "KEEP FILES" option. Deleted account. A folder pops up in desktop, with the computer's name. Under that folder there was another folder with old user name, and under that folder there was yet another folder also with old user name. Completely empty.

I don't have a restore point to which to retrieve my files. The c: disk says there is 600GBs of free space, previously I had only 300. All the library from my old user account have been wiped. I also checked Recycle Bin which is empty. The current account has admin privileges and is set to show hidden files. I was told that it might be under c:Users. I checked that with CMD and two folders were titled "." and "..", they don't show under file explorer.
I am running Recuva right now, but from what I understand that won't be able to restore file names and fragmented files, which are both critical. I also had an encrypted file with a none standard extension which might be ignored by Recuva.
Maintenance :: Troubleshoot Option Under Advanced Startup Option Missing
Oct 23, 2013The Troubleshoot icon that should be under the 'Advanced Startup' Option is missing. System is a new Dell Latitude 10 ST2 Tablet running Windows 8. Have access to 9 other identical tablets, all configured the same and they all have the Troubleshoot Option. Have tried multiple methods of getting to "Advanced Startup" display (including Safe mode, 'shutdown /r /o', etc.), but all result in only having the 'Continue', 'Use a Device', and 'Turn Off your PC' options - No Troubleshoot. Other than missing this icon, system is working fine. Shy of wiping the disk and starting over.

I am also having a problem where when I turn on my computer It will stay a black screen even though all signs point to it working just nothing shows on the screen. After a complete shutdown by holding the power button and turning it back on it works but doesn't let me get into BIOS.

Won't Show Screen At Startup?
Nov 10, 2012I power my computer on and seems to startup fine and gets to the loading screen for windows. Then when its get to the screen where its suppose to sow the lock screen its just black. I can here the windows startup sound and can see my mouse and move it around but can't do anything. I have been trying to find a solution for the past couple days but can't get to much due to time restrictions. Deployed right now so I'm kinda limited on what resources I can use and instead of dicking around with this problem id just use my time to skype family and friends. I usually like to solve to computer problem myself for the know how but don't have the time.

Accounts :: No Option To Login Through Pin Code
Jul 30, 2014i have recently bought a new laptop, windows 8. Its a Lenovo Ideapad Y50.
At first i had a password and a pincode, i was able to switch between the 2 login options at the login screen, i always used the pincode, as it was faster. I forgot the password. And somehow the option to choose between the 2, is now gone. To conclude, i am unablebto login to my laptop, as i dont know the password and it is not allowing me to login through my pincode. The account is not a microsoft account, so i cant just go to there website and change my password. Nor do i have a password reset disk. I have tried all the passwords i know and have no clue what to do next.
Properties Option In Menus Not Work Normally?
Jan 17, 2014First of all I want to say that this is not much big of a deal to me but still annoying nonetheless. I noticed that in some scenarios, for some reason, the "Properties" option in the rightclick menu of a file doesn't do anything when clicked on. You'd expect that a properties box of the concerning file would show up but nothing is happening. So far I noticed this in the following 2 scenarios:
1. When selecting multiple files in the Recycle Bin at once and then right click and choose Properties. Selecting only one file in the recycle bin and clicking Properties does work normally.
2. When right clicking on a picture that is shown with Windows Photo Viewer and then choosing Properties.
Are these bugs that Microsoft developers might have missed or is my PC at fault here? I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro x64 with Medica Center.
