When I right-click on any tiles it doesnt show the right click option like to change the tiles size, remove the tiles and such.. It just show the "tick icon" on it but no menu option.
View 2 RepliesI have a Laptop with a 120GB Solid State Drive. My primary operating system has been Windows 7 Ultimate. Recently I decided to try and Install Windows 8 Pro Along side windows 7 . Dual Boot. I read about Dual Booting in this Official Windows 8 Magazine and it seemed easy. I ran into a few problems:
1. I was able to 'shrink Volume' to create another partition of atleast the 20GB minimum required for windows 8. I did 25GB's because my 120gb solid state drive was almost full with other windows 7 files and partitions. The problem I ran into was in creating a 'New Simple Volume' and formatting my new 25GB's of space. An Error message saying "not enough memory or space available to perform operation" kept popping up.
Am I getting these error messages because I already have 4 different partitions on my drive? The different partitions were A: Windows 7 OS and Files, B: Windows 7 Hibernation, C: Windows 7 Recovery and D: an unknown 8gb primary partition
2. I decided to delete the Windows 7 Recovery partition, because I have my Windows 7 DVD, and I didn't mind re-installing everything if I were to mess up. Plus my OS doesn't run from that partition, and I'll have room to create my new Windows 8 simple volume. (probably a dumb decision)
3. Disk management didn't want to delete my Recovery partition (probably for good reason) and merge it's free space with my 25GB' partition that I had previously created and was unable to create the New simple volume in. I had to use a 3rd party program called Paragon Partition Manager free edition to do this. I had to restart my laptop for Paragon to delete the 2GB recovery partiton and merge the space with my un-formatted 25GB partition. After the Paragon program finished, my laptop wouldn't boot windows 7 and just hung up with an Intel boot agent screen.
4. Luckily, I had already made my Windows 8 bootable flash drive to Install the OS. Since Windows 7 wasn't booting, I decided to go ahead and try to install windows 8 with my flash drive. It worked! I found my 27GB partition in the setup menu, was able to format it, and install Windows 8. Now windows 8 starts up! My other partition with windows 7 also shows up in Disk management and In my computer!.
5. My biggest question is, How can I make that Windows 8 Dual boot screen pop up when I turn on my laptop? I can boot into windows 7 if I go to Disk Management in Windows 8, Right click my windows 7 partition, and click "Make Active partition". I then hit restart, and my laptop boots to Windows 7 no problem. I Can boot into windows 8 by doing the same Thing in Disk Management in Windows 7. "Make Active Partition" and restart Pc. So in a sense, I have what I want; Windows 7 and Windows 8. But, I shouldn't have to go into Disk Management each time I want to change the system Im using. how to get the Windows 8 Dual Boot option at startup?
In Windows 8.1 do the on screen notifications only show on the Start screen?
I'm talking about the big ones I see with the black bar, such as low battery warning.
Twice I've been on the desktop and I never got a low battery warning. To test I made sure I was on the Start screen and sure enough the warning popped up. Also, when I switched over to the desktop the battery icon showed the exclamation point where I don't think it ever did when always on the desktop.
Can I have icons on the Start screen that do not show up on the Apps screen ?

I have win 8.1 x64 Core installed.The thing is, i want to remove some items from my start screen and right clicking does not bring up any menu (which it used to on my previous win 8.1, this is new installation).
WEe, I deleted some files which were actually looking like shortcuts (had arrow below icons, like shortcuts) in C:Users (and directories in it), thinking that these shortcuts are just useless. And I think this somehow caused the problem. now I want to remove a few thing from my start screen and no option is appearing. Is there any way to manually remove them?
Same thing happens in the "detailed" start screen, the checkmark appears, but no menu to do anything.
If I right click on any tile shortcut etc, I have no options for pin unpin runas uninstall whatever. Just a check mark. I'm almost certain it is a registry problem. I just do not know where to look. I had a problem with the metro file explorer not working and fixed it with a reg file for homegroup. However did not fix this problem.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI pinned an application to my start menu, occasionally I need to run that app with Admin privs. All I can find in the Start Screen is the "Run As Admin" option that appears at the bottom of the screen.
It's a real pain to have to click the app near the top of the screen and then slide all of the way to the bottom for "run as admin"..aside from pinning it to taskbar in Desktop (whch is probably where it belongs anyway)?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to the CP a few days ago and just noticed a huge problem. The "Show Desktop" tile that is normally on the start screen be default has gone missing. I can't figure out how I got rid of it in the first place, but is there some way to add it back?
I have changed the title to more accurately reflect the problem. A bunch of the features that come with Windows 8 CP (the tablet friendly Settings page, Remote Desktop, the show desktop tile, The Windows Store, etc) all vanished shortly after I installed Windows 8. I tried reinstalling and the same thing happened again.
Likes to use the Windows 8 Start Screen that has all the tiles on it. Normally, she clicks on the "Mail" icon to get to her email, but now when she clicks on the icon it doesn't go to her email and instead it goes straight to her desktop. I tried clicking another icon; the "weather" one, and it too goes to the desktop. She told me she downloaded a couple games from iWin a few days ago and I noticed a new toolbar in her browser so I tried disabling that, but no change. I've checked what the default browser is, Internet Explorer (what she normally uses). I also tried making Chrome the default browser but still no change.

Usually the sidebar opens with search results, but recently it has stopped working completely. Also, the search charm on the sidebar, and the search button on the Windows 8.1 (update) Start Screen do not work either--when I press them, nothing happens.
At first I thought it was a Windows Search service that had stopped working, so I restarted them, but the problem persisted.
The only thing that annoys me is that when you move your mouse in the bottom right corner you can't click the Show Desktop button.

Apparently there's supposed to be a checkbox that reads "Show store apps on taskbar" but that isn't there! I have a version of Windows 8.1 that doesn't have this option. I really liked this feature. This worked for me until I installed a fresh installation of Windows 8.1.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm mainly using WMC when I'm watching something. I have installed a few codec packs so most of the time it works fine.
I've got an episode of Naruto that suddenly didn't show the subtitles, though. (I've watch about 300 episodes of Naruto before this one and they all showed subtitles properly.)
At first I thought there was something wrong with the episode, so I opened it in Windows Media Player Classic (using CCCP - Combined Community Codec Pack- which is the greatest thing since VLC) and it worked fine, showing subtitles with no problem. (However, the subtitles looked different, so I'm guessing there's another translator or something involved.)
So why doesn't WMC show subtitles when MPC does?
It's an .avi -file, and the subtitle is "built-in", so there's no extra file or anything.
EDIT: I tried with another Naruto Episode, which is in .mp4 format, and the subtitle works in both WMC and MPC. I still want my WMC to be able to play all files and subtitles, though.
I've got a Lenovo all-in-one 64 bit PC. When I click on Change PC Settings in the Settings charm the 'Wireless' option is missing. It appears exactly as expected on my laptop - also a 64bit windows 8 machine.
(My bluetooth mouse and keyboard are working as is my wireless LAN connection, so it's clearly working but I can't change anything).
I am using a Wacom Cintiq Companion and just upgraded to Windows 8.1. After the upgrade my right-click stopped working and when I try to right-click it freezes my left click so I have to restart.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from Windows 7 Ultimate x64 to Windows 8 Pro x64 and then to 8.1 (too many installed programs for a clean install)
Now, when I right click a shortcut and do "Open" or "run as administrator" it does nothing. If I double click it, it works fine. Also, if I try to open a cmd from the bottom left context menu it also doesn't work. I've no problems though to do "open" or "run as administrator" on the actual executable files, the problem is the shortcuts. Obviously there's something in the registry that needs fixing, but I've no idea what. I've tried all the usuals, sfc scanning, ccleaner, etc, but no luck. I tried with shellexview to check what is registered where in the context menu, but I didn't find that very useful either. The same happens in safe mode too.
EDIT:I did assoc .lnk at cmd and returned "lnkfle" and then I did ftype lnkfile and returned that nothing is associated with this. Dunno if that's how it should be in 8, but that's the same winxp returns.
I unlocked my AMD Phenom II X2 CPU to 4 core, but the Windows not show it. The Task Manager not show it and CPU-Z show only 2 cores. But the Device manager and a BIOS shows all the 4 cores.
I found this solution for the problem, but it is not working. When I do these steps the Windows restarts, but nothing happens. Maybe because I use a Windows 8 and a never version of EasyBCD.
What can I do for working 4 cores?
Just bought a Windows 8 tablet, and not knowing anything about it. Specifically what we were trying to do today was sync his documents from his desktop to the tablet. OneDrive seemed the easiest way to do that, so I installed the OneDrive app on his desktop and logged him in on the tablet. And there were the files. But the problem is, they're on the cloud, and he wants to be able to access them offline.
Through googling, I discovered that there is supposed to be an option in OneDrive to "make all files available offline," supposedly accessible through the Charms bar, under Settings -> Options. But alas, I followed all the directions everywhere, and that option was not there. I took an appropriate screenshot:
Similarly, there is no option to "make available offline" when I access options for individual documents within OneDrive (by swiping up or down).
Why is this option not where it is supposed to be?
I am unable to download pictures in outlook10. Right clicking doesn't work. I am using firefox.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running Win 8.1 Pro x64. Today I noticed that the "Eject" option from the right-click menu doesn't work for either of my 2 CD-Rom drives, nor for a "virtual" drive - I get the same error message on all 3: "An error occured while ejecting [drive]".
Device Manager shows no errors, and I've tried uninstalling the drives and rebooting, but error persists.
Also, to be clear, it is NOT a physical problem with the drives, as I can open them without a problem through the buttons on the front.
Finally, if for some reason I can't fix this issue, any way to at least just DELETE the "Eject" from the context menu?

I hate Windows 8 so much! Even with a start menu replacement, this ticks me off, it's crappy Wireless LAN manager sucks, its performance is less when I benchmarks my SSD
I can go back to 7, but I am trying to fix a few things if I could just to benefit from the UEFI boot mode as for installing 7, I have to enable legacy ROM which is much slower during boot.
My fully updated Windows 8.1 notebook suddenly will not show any wifi connections when I click on the icon in the system tray (it shows "No Connections are Available", although it is connected, and I can surf and browse normally).
To connect to a new network, I have to manually enter the details of the network, and then it connects. This is something new, since previously it would show all the available networks, and allow me to make a selection (which is normal). What setting could have flipped do enable the above situation?
i installed win7 on my SSD (like 22gb drive) in my asus today. Now, under my computer, it shows nothing but the SSD. it doesn't show my 500gb hard drive.. Im pretty sure its because of something i didnt do in the setup. View 9 Replies View RelatedDownload from a site, like a picture or media file (music, etc.), it downloads it fully, but it still says it is still downloading even when you can see the current state such as 40.7MB out of 40.7MB completed only certain sites do this, but others don't So something is off here, and since I got this from FB and another site or more, Firefox might be having a bug issue. I tried a resetting Firefox, but it didn't do anything. Another issue that might be Firefox-related is Youtube. In this case, the viewing history doesn't show any videos. I thought it was a site issue. It could be, but it's still the case now. Since I mentioned one issue, might as well mention this one too.
