I have a problem with my windows 8.1.
I usually able to use Right click and I can put my Application to my start screen but today I unable to do that and I don't know why ?
I right on my app but nothing happen . only check mark appear
I have win 8.1 x64 Core installed.The thing is, i want to remove some items from my start screen and right clicking does not bring up any menu (which it used to on my previous win 8.1, this is new installation).
WEe, I deleted some files which were actually looking like shortcuts (had arrow below icons, like shortcuts) in C:Users (and directories in it), thinking that these shortcuts are just useless. And I think this somehow caused the problem. now I want to remove a few thing from my start screen and no option is appearing. Is there any way to manually remove them?
Same thing happens in the "detailed" start screen, the checkmark appears, but no menu to do anything.
If I right click on any tile shortcut etc, I have no options for pin unpin runas uninstall whatever. Just a check mark. I'm almost certain it is a registry problem. I just do not know where to look. I had a problem with the metro file explorer not working and fixed it with a reg file for homegroup. However did not fix this problem.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI pinned an application to my start menu, occasionally I need to run that app with Admin privs. All I can find in the Start Screen is the "Run As Admin" option that appears at the bottom of the screen.
It's a real pain to have to click the app near the top of the screen and then slide all of the way to the bottom for "run as admin"..aside from pinning it to taskbar in Desktop (whch is probably where it belongs anyway)?
I just updated to windows 8.1 from windows 8 a while ago. I would like to ask how to disable the old style right click on start screen?
I want my original 'right-click style' on windows 8. But by default it currently uses the classic-style, I'm going to provide a screenshot to let you see what I mean.
When I right-click on any tiles it doesnt show the right click option like to change the tiles size, remove the tiles and such.. It just show the "tick icon" on it but no menu option.
View 2 Replies View Related I put my computer in sleep mode, as I have done many times. But this time, after I brought it back on, my Start Screen was missing all the tiles. AND, I can't put them back. When I click the "All Apps" button at the bottom, my screen just goes blank.
My desktop works, so I haven't lost anything. Just have a totally disfunctional Start Screen.
Symptoms:
1) After boot, I'm at the Start Screen.
2) The screen isn't blank. It's got the background and the START in the corner. It's just blank of tiles. There are no tiles on my Start screen.
3) If I go to bottom and right click, I see "All Apps" and if I click that, the screen then goes blank, and the background changes. The screen is totally blank and nothing works except the side menus. There are no tiles listed and no text on the screen.
I was writing an email and randomly my fairly new and perfectly working laptop kept freezing and showing Disk 100% in Task Manager so I restarted. After that my laptop is stuck on "automatic repair mode" whenever I power on and none of the options work. I have the options to "Continue to win 8" "use a device" "troubleshoot" or "turn off my pc" NONE of these options are working! If I click anything it just freezes.
How can I recover some important files I had on my desktop? I didn't have any partitions! I'm not able to boot with Ubuntu, win 7, or norton ghost DVDs. I even set the DVD drive to boot first in BIOS.

I've been having this weird problem since i installed windows 8 on my system. at first i thought it is nothing, but after reading forums i found out there is some problems with my system.
in the PC Settings page, when i click on personalize, i get 3 options, two of them are Account Picture and Start Screen, it opens fine, but i am NOT able to click or edit anything in that. I'll also attach screens for some extra information.
In 8.1 if I right-click the start-button to get up the new "simplified gray start menu" there are options like "Programs and Features", "Device Manager", "Command Prompt" etc. When I click on these they no longer launch, nothing happens.

When I right click on an item on my desktop (file /folder etc) the screen quickly goes blue (the same colour as my Windows tiles as if it is switching to tiled mode rather than desktop) then my desktop comes back up.
This also happens when I'm in a folder.
It has started happening this last week. It is an annoyance to me as I need to right click >>> rename files all the time for my work but it wont work. As a result I have to open the file and go through the save as process instead.
I have Avast and Malwarebytes Anti Malware - both have not picked up anything.
Tonight I upgraded from Windows 7 to 8 and everything went fine. I noticed that the right click was very slow and found out that it was my display drivers that were at fault so I upgraded them also. I then had to reboot and thats where my problems started. Not when I startup everything seems to go okay and I think that it is starting fully but I have a blank screen. I attempted to enter safe mode but was unsuccessful F8, Shift F8 and a combination of both.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had a problem with my laptop in that the disk use went to 100% and then the screen started blinking and I couldn't click on anything. After a reinstall of the OS it worked the same as new for about an hour but now the disk use climbs to 100% even when a new tab is opened and it stays at the max for a short time. The laptop becomes unresponsive during this time also.

Every time I want to copy or move a file using the select location link, the copy/move window that opens is always below the task bar (or below the screen if I have task bar set to auto hide). In either case I cannot click the move or copy button before first moving the window up. It may seem like a small thing but I do this operation a lot & it is very annoying having to do that extra step.
The touch screen keyboard click sound suddenly reduced loudness. This is happening on my DVP 11 running win 8.1
Used to be much louder, then this afterneed it just went soft on me. Is there a setting somewhere to restore the keyboard click loudness?
When I single click it's actually doing a double click. It does this most of the time but not every click. Could my mouse be going bad?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a new Dell Inspiron 15r as of this Christmas, running Windows 8. I ran the upgrade to 8.1 but I still have a problem with my cursor wanting to "hover click" on links or browser tabs, as well as being stuck in the down position, when I'm not even pressing on the touchpad left button. I end up selecting an entire region of stuff while moving the cursor across the screen.
I can't figure out what to change or configure in Control Panel, or is it in the Dell Touchpad configuration utility?
In Control Panel/Ease of Access Center/Make Your Mouse Easier To Use I have unchecked "Activate a Window by hovering over it with a mouse." Still happens.
When I use the Administrator Account everything runs well. I switch to Standard User Account and only when I click on my folders the screen flash to a blank page and take me back to the main desktop page. I tried again and the same thing happen always, flashes to a blank page and take me back to the desktop page. It only when I click on my folders.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've tried just about everything, but can't seem to find a setting to stop this action. The screen on my laptop (Sony Flip 15A, intel4400/geforce735) seems to increase and decrease in brightness between screens. It's rather annoying not just because of the change, but also because it takes several seconds to occur and it occurs in discrete steps. I'm running the latest drivers from both intel and nvidia. I've tried turning off adaptive brightness and disabling the sensor service, and all effects (fade in, UAC, etc) have been turned off. A video of the condition is shown below:

It even happen when no programs are opening/closing - for example, if I view a dark background web page and then a lighter background, the brightness shifts. I can't imagine how awful this will be in photoshop.
I am unable to pin to start any shortcuts from explorer. I've tried changing the local group policy Remove pinned programs list from the Start Menu to disable and it still doesn't work .
When clicking on the down arrow to add existing shortcuts i can. But i have other programs I wish to pin that aren't listed in there. Looking for restoring the ability to pin programs to the start menu .
Im referring to this bottom menu; when I right click my app/programs, nothing pops up below. I also cant rearrange tiles, groups and stuff.

I'm talking about the big ones I see with the black bar, such as low battery warning.
Twice I've been on the desktop and I never got a low battery warning. To test I made sure I was on the Start screen and sure enough the warning popped up. Also, when I switched over to the desktop the battery icon showed the exclamation point where I don't think it ever did when always on the desktop.
I accidentally deleted the EFI partition, required to boot into my Win 8.1 installation - unbeknownst to me that EFI partition was on a different disk to where my Windows is located. To complicate matters the Windows install is on a RAID0 array.
Windows repair using the original install media didn't work.
EasyRE didn't detect the RAID0 drive.I saw various instructions on how to reconstruct the EFI partition, but they all assumed that the EFI partition is still there, which in my case it isn't.how I can get my data off that drive and re-install Windows?
I am running windows 8.1 and this problem has just come up somewhat recently.
I cannot move, group, pin, whatever any of my tiles. right clicking does nothing, and they simply wont move. But i still can open my apps no problem. I am not using a custom theme.
I have tries most of the options here: [URL] .... Except the last couple cuz that is a last resort for me.
I am trying to remove an icon from my windows 8 start menu. I have uninstalled the program (Diablo 3), but the icon remains under the games category. If I right click I get the option to uninstall, which brings me to the program uninstaller under control panel; Diablo 3 is not listed here. Right click also allows me to "open file location" which gives me the games screen as seen below. Right clicking on Diablo 3 here does nothing. I have no option to delete the entry.
View 6 Replies View RelatedAs I understand it, when I it the Windows key or mouse-click lower left while in the desktop, it is supposed to take me to the Start Screen. Indeed, it did work this way for some time. However, now, when I do either, it takes me to the Apps Screen and I have to do something (one of several) to switch to the Start Screen. Once there, if I hit Windows key or click lower left repeatedly, it goes Start Screen -> Apps Screen -> Desktop -> Apps Screen -> Desktop, etc. I think this is wrong. It is certainly not what I want; but my searching has not run across any other mention of this behavior. I don't want it to go to the Apps Screen when I hit Windows key or click in lower left. I only want to go there if I specifically do something to get there from the Start screen. (E.g., little arrow, Ctrl-Tab) How do I get back to the Start Screen being the default choice between these two?
The behavior changed some time after I upgraded to Windows 8.1; but I am not sure if it was immediately after. I suspect not. I've only had the computer for a week, so I am still becoming accustomed to Windows 8. (Coming from XP and 7 and having read a lot of negative comments, I was expecting that I would hate Windows 8. Now I am unable to project to a second screen. My set up is two monitors connected to my laptop (One from a directly connected HDMI cable and the other by an HDMI cable, connected to a utility bar, connected to my laptop by usb). I have already updated my graphics driver to the latest edition and still get the message "Your PC can't project to another screen. Try reinstalling the driver or using a different video card."
Recently I upgraded my Toshiba Portege R500 laptop from Windows 7 to windows 8 pro. Everything worked fine for almost a month and since last few days I am not able to see login screen, its just blank. Since I am unable to login I cannot access the apps/programs neither I can shut the laptop from Windows 8 via Charm menu or Cntrl+Alt+Del.
I am stuck as I cannot reinstall the OS as when I use power down button on the laptop the machine goes to sleep and on power up I cannot access boot priority screen to change to optical drive.
