Windows Measures Internet Speed - How To Change It Manually
Dec 21, 2012the new Task Manager I started to care about it after installing Windows 8. Normally my internet speed is only about 1 mbps (~8 mbit). Because of that, the task managers' "Network" bar shows wrong percents. I assume that that is because Windows reports wrong wired internet speed (100 mbps).
Is there anyway to change it so hopefuly I can see meaningful data?
Extended Monitor And Laptop Monitor Not Working
Aug 21, 2013Today I plugged an hdmi to vga cable into my Win 8 sony vaio, and I plugged the other VGA side of the cable into an acee 22" monitor. I then chose from the right hand windows 8 panel to "extend to monitor", the laptop screen went black, the monitor screen remained without signal (extended screen did not show on monitor) and now the laptop screen is black.
I am now stuck and both laptop and monitor screen not working.
I tried unplugging cable, pressing fn and all the f1 to f12, shift, windows button but nothing is working.
I pressed off button then switched laptop back on and it showed the sony vaio logo on laptop then the screen went black again.
how could I return my laptop screen to work and stop the screen extension which is not working and which I am sure is the case.
Any buttons on keyboard to click at all?
Monitor Won't Turn On?
Jun 25, 2014My system (Windows 8) was shut down during a power outage, and now when I try to restart, I hear the CPU go through what sounds like the normal process, but there is nothing on my monitor. I've tried the CPU with another monitor, same issue. I can access the shared folders from another computer on the network, so it looks like everything starts up OK. Before I run down to the local repair shop, is there anything I can try?

Feb 15, 2014Basically, I just bought a pc, turned it on, put my old monitors vga in the port provided, and basically, I just see a black screen, the pc is booting fine, etc, but cant see anything on my old monitor.
what i did was, I went to my pc, there are 2 hdmi ports, one is the upper one, and one is down, put the hdmi one on the upper one, nothing.. wasnt able to see anything on my tv that has a hdmi input, but when I put the hdmi cable in the lowest hdmi spot I can see windows, and am able to write this now.
My question is, how can I acces my pc thru the vga port of my old monitor without having to put it in the lowest hdmi port on my tv?

Aug 30, 2013Just installed Windows 8.1. Both my monitors have a resolution of 1920 X 1080. Both have DPI set accordingly. My right hand monitor is fine, my left is fine when running the desktop and desktop apps. However, whenever I run an app on the second screen, it seems to be larger than normal (zoomed in). I think this is a DPI issue, and Ive tried tweaking the registry but to no avail. I have all the latest drivers. The start menu only displays 4 rows, yet when i move the resolution down to around 1600, it shows 5 rows.

I have two monitors connected but only one of them was working, even though I upgraded the drivers for the graphicscard, I wasn't able to enable the other monitor. This is, however, not my problem.. As part of me trying to figure it out, I hit the "Devices" button in the menu and disabled the only monitor on there. I thought it was the one which wasn't working, but it turned out to be the one already working, so now none of the monitors are on and how to get them working again.
I'm guess that I'm looking for some sort of a keyboard shortcut to enable the monitor again.
Monitor Doesn't Turn Off
Dec 23, 2012I have it set up just like I did with Win7. Screen saver set for 10 minutes, monitor power off set for 15 minutes. The problem is, the monitor doesn't turn off! To be more accurate, it DOES turn off at the 15 minute mark, for about 1 minute. Then it turns back on and the lock screen shows. Then after 1 minute, the display fades out to black, but the monitor itself is still on.
even disabling the lock screen, but nothing works. I've never been able to get the monitor to turn off for more than 1 minute.
New Workstation Monitor Restarting?
Jun 9, 2014I just built a new workstation for school and I'm having a what I think is a driver issue.
So when I bring my computer out of standby I hear it turn on but then it reset when the monitors don't come on.
Occasionally this happens when i turn on the computer or just return to it and the monitors shut off.
My Specs.
OS Windows 8.1 64
Monitors: Syncmaster P2570HD and a 22Hd Cintiq
Motherboard: asus b85m-e/csm

Dec 6, 2013have the following problem on windows 8.1. When monitor after 10 minutes goes to power saving mode it wont' wake up by moving mouse or by pressing a button on keybord. To wake the monitor again i must resart the pc by pressing the restart button on pc. How can i solve this problem? Bios and drivers are updated. For motherboard i downloaded drivers from asus and for gpu i downloaded the driver from amd website
My pc configuration is: CPU- Intel Core i3 2120 @ 3.30GHz
Motherboard: Asus P8H61-MX R2.0
Gpu: MSI Radeon Hd 7750 1GB DDR 5 (R7750-1GD5/OC)

Can't Drag Window From One Monitor To Other
Feb 26, 2013I am unable to drag a window from one monitor to the other when the cursor is at the top or bottom of the screen (both monitors are the same size and same resolution). It stops when in one of the hot corners forcing me to have to drag between the two corners. Any way to configure that?

Now I wanted to use it with a projector or second screen, which is a bit annoying. Following scenarios have been tried out already:
Connected with a lenovo USB 3.0 dock/port replicator 0A33970, works fine with the software included. However, I do not want to carry the dock with me, it is bulky and needs power connected with a Lenovo USB-to-DVI Monitor Adapter. A nice, small and lightweight adapter. But, that one does not work, even with software installed.
It is proven that it works, but not with the device I wanted Is there a hidden function/system adjustment that I needed to know?
Dell XPS Not Sleeping - Only Monitor Shuts Off
Feb 23, 2013When my XPS 8500 sleeps only the screen dims but I can still hear the hard drive spinning. I set it to sleep in the power options area for 5 minutes but only the monitor shuts off. If I click on sleep in the settings area it spins all the way down.

Feb 27, 2014After im playing in this case battlefield bad company 2 or now it was battlefield 4 after like 5-10 minutes i hear my video card is working very hard it's fan and the temperature is like 110-117c.
Then after more 5 minutes or so the monitor is shut down and the pc is frozen i can't click anything only can restart the pc. It's like the pc is in sleep mode but frozen. I don't have any blue screen before it.
I'm not sure if the problem is drivers like the video card drivers memory or virus. I have nod 32 did scan last night cleaned 17 threats.

I have all monitor sleep function's set to never and every time I walk away from the computer for about 20 min the monitors seem to go off and I have to move the mouse and they come back on.

Jun 30, 2014I currently have a two monitor set up.
On boot up the left monitor (desktop only, metro is fine) has incorrect DPI scalling, where some items appear large and blurry. This includes the menus (eg explorer), desktop programs and the cursor. The taskbar and metro interfaces are fine.
Changing any graphics settings fixes the problem - eg. if I change the main monitor and change back the problem goes away. Equally, changing resolution and changing back fixes the issue. I've only ever had the problem with 8.1. I fixed the problem/it went away after a while, but since doing a reformat the problem is back.
I have changed the setting in text size and other items, unchecking the "let me choose one scaling level...." and have put the slider on "smaller". In PC settings, the DPI is set to smaller (but this is for the metro interface).

Is the best alternative to become the administrator on his computer and force him to use a child account? This won't let him install software, as I understand it. Are there any other limitations with using a child/standard user account?

Jun 14, 2013My monitor won't go to sleep all of a sudden. It's set to 1 hour in the power plan. What complicates the matter is that I have now 2 users on the same pc. With the original one, the monitor always goes to sleep. With the other user it does not. Same settings, same screensaver (photo gallery).

May 8, 2014I am a brand new Windows 8.1 user as of a couple of days ago. I have recently updated to Windows 8.1 and am enjoying it. I have been adjusting defaults to my liking easily enough. But I am having trouble with one small item in my dual monitor setup.
In the Taskbar and Navigation properties, I have unchecked the setting "Show Start on the display I'm using when I press the Windows logo key". This does what I want in regard to always displaying Start on my primary monitor regardless of which screen I am working on when I click the Windows logo key. But if I try using Win+S to open the Search bar (or one of the other search hotkeys as well) while a window on the secondary monitor is active it opens on the right side of that secondary screen instead. Any other time, the Search bar opens on the primary monitor as expected. Any way to make the Search bar always dock to the right side of my primary monitor as well, but I haven't found how yet.
New Metro Start Menu On 2nd Monitor
Nov 3, 2012I have 2 monitors and am wondering if there is some way to make it so that when I bring up the new metro start menu on my 2nd monitor that I can make it stick there?
As it is now, if I open the new menu on my 2nd monitor and then go back to what ever program that I have open on my first monitor (like chrome or I.E. etc) then the start menu will close from my 2nd monitor.
I'd like to make it where it stays open on my 2nd monitor. Is this somehow possible?
Windows 8.1 - Monitor On Zoom / Magnifier
Oct 3, 2014I recently installed a windows 8.1 for my client and because of her eye magnifier is been utilized a lot, but my problem is when you zoom to 250 the icons and letters are all fuzzy and she doesn't like it. I have tried all my troubleshoot techniques(cleartxt, screen resolution, uninstal/reinstal monitor driver and graphic drivers ) but these seems not to work for my ,i brought the monitor home and I put with my computer it looked better but my clients looks worse when I returned it.
