View 1 RepliesI have seen some posts on internet, concerning connecting an external CRT Monitor with a Laptop computer. They pretty much said that there might be a blue cable with, and one can use it to connect that monitor with laptop. Now I am confused that mine monitor has two cables; one of which is blue and the other one is white, having three larger pins inside. Both these wires are connected to my desktop CPU. Now my question is that, it is obvious that the blue wire can be connected to my laptop but what about the other one, this wire is connected to the power supply of my desktop pc, and when it comes to laptop, would mere one wire (blue) suffice for the electricity or other things?
View 5 Replies View RelatedToday I plugged an hdmi to vga cable into my Win 8 sony vaio, and I plugged the other VGA side of the cable into an acee 22" monitor. I then chose from the right hand windows 8 panel to "extend to monitor", the laptop screen went black, the monitor screen remained without signal (extended screen did not show on monitor) and now the laptop screen is black.
I am now stuck and both laptop and monitor screen not working.
I tried unplugging cable, pressing fn and all the f1 to f12, shift, windows button but nothing is working.
I pressed off button then switched laptop back on and it showed the sony vaio logo on laptop then the screen went black again.
how could I return my laptop screen to work and stop the screen extension which is not working and which I am sure is the case.
Any buttons on keyboard to click at all?
I have acquired an HP Envy M6 laptop (AMD version with ATI graphics) and I want to do a factory reset on it so I can customize it for me. Problem is the screen is broke so I have been using it with an external monitor until I can order the replacement screen. Problem I am running into is the extended monitor will not show BIOS screens or any of the recovery screens because no signal is directed to the extended monitor until it gets into windows 8. Is there a way to make it show boot screens or any screens it cycles through prior to getting into windows?
The broke screen illuminates and occasionally shows some of the desktop at the very bottom but I cannot see anything that I need to. I would like to go ahead and reset it so when I get the new screen it will be ready to go.
I am using a relatively new Toshiba Satellite laptop, which came with Windows 8 (64-bit). Frequently, as I am typing, the text size will suddenly enlarge. I don't believe that my wrist is interfering with the keyboard, but I can't be certain. How do I go about returning the text size to a normal viewing size in Windows 8?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought a new laptop without OS, it's a XMG advanced with i7 4700MQ CPU, an Intel HD grafics 4600 chip and an NVIDIA geforce 765M GTX.
I installed win 8.1 and updated all drivers. The laptop itself works fine. Now I wanted to connect an external Monitor ( HP w2207h) The laptop recognizes that there is an external Monitor and that it is an HP w2207h and tries to extend the desktop to it, but the monitor itself says that there is no input signal via the HDMI input and it goes to sleepmode.
When I connect my old Laptop to it, it is no Problem, the monitor shows the extendes Desktop, so the monitor an all cables are OK. (old Laptop : Win7 core 2 duo CPU geforce 9600M GT )
With the new Laptop I have the same problem, when I try to connect it to my LG TV set via HDMI, the Laptop recognizes the TV and tries to extend the desktop ( I can move the mouse out of the internal display to the TV ) but the TV says there is no input signal.
I have set the Output to 60 Hz and different resolutions and tried to duplicate the display or only use the external one. Nothing worked.
I can't force the Laptop to use the Gforce, he decides which one he wants to use.
A friend bought the same laptop and made the same installation, but when he connects to his external moniotr everything is fine, but I don't know what kind of monitor he has and I have not connected my laptop to his monitor.
I am having an issue where, with my laptop lid closed because I use my monitor, when I reboot my laptop it never actually comes back on. If I remember to open the lid in advance, there is no issue.
I have my settings set that when my laptop lid is closed, nothing happens.
My laptop has been giving me an issue for several weeks where it will not connect to the internet. When I attempt to do ipconfig commands it tells me "No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection 13 while it has its media disconnected." As well as Local Area Connection 12, Bluetooth Network Connection, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi.

But it still did not work, the internet is connect through a router (not wireless) and the other desktop PC still connects to the internet fine.

For some reason my windows 8 Hp will not connect to my home wifi network. Has had no problem connecting in the past but yesterday I unplugged my router to move it to another part of my house and ever since then it can't connect. My cell phone and other laptop connect to the internet no problem.
On my Hp it will show a list of wifi networks and my home network is on the list, however, when I try to connect to it and then troubleshoot the problem it says I can't connect to the network because it is hidden. I don't see how thats possible since the network name shows up on the list of nearby wifi networks.
What I've done but hasn't worked:
Reset my router and laptop multiple times.
Tried to manually connect to network.
Forgot the network on my laptop and tried to reconnect.
I don't understand how one day it can connect to the wifi fine and then I unplug it and all of a sudden it can't connect but my other devices can.
Though I have selected to automatically connect to my wifi network after switching on my laptop wont connect it I have to click connect for it to connect?

I have an ASUS laptop running 8.0 which I am running with a second screen (dell monitor) connected via VGA. I have it set so the external monitor is the primary screen and the laptop is the secondary screen. It is set for a taskbar on each display, with the primary taskbar containing the shortcuts on the monitor, so when I click them they open there. It's been working fine for months.
So I switched it on today and my taskbar shortcuts have jumped to the taskbar on the second (laptop) screen, however my external display is still set as the primary and still has my desktop icons, trashcan etc but a blank taskbar (like the one that used to be on the secondary display)! When I click the shortcuts which are now on the taskbar of the laptop screen they open on the monitor. (ie the wrong screen) I disconnected the monitor, turned off the extended desktop and set it to just use the laptop screen. All my desktop icons moved to the laptop screen but the taskbar shortcuts vanished and I was left with a blank taskbar. If I plug the monitor in again and extend the desktop they reappear, but on the wrong screen. Even if I reboot without the external screen connected I get no shortcuts until I plug in the monitor and set it to extend the desktop. I have checked all the taskbar settings and they are all correct.
I purchased a new ASUS laptop a couple of days ago and have been trying to use the hotel wifi where I am staying to do the various updates and installs that new computers require. Unfortunately, while I can connect to my tethered cell phone, I cannot connect to the hotel.
I have another computer on hand that has no difficulties connecting to the hotel wifi, so I know the problem is in the new computer somewhere.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just got a new Windows 8 laptop, a Lenovo Y510p, and I've been having several wireless issues with it. Pretty early on my computer froze up so I had to force it to shut down. After resolving the issue, I was unable to load any websites, however a flush of the dns cache fixed the problem right up. Fast forward a few hours, and suddenly I can't connect to the router in my dorm room-I just suddenly lost my connection and now I can't reconnect.
My roommate has a router set up for our room connected to an internet jack in the wall. It is configured as WPA2-PSK. I usually connect to this when in the room, but now I can't-windows just says "can't connect to this network". There is wifi throughout the dorm already, which I can connect to just fine, however the signal isn't as strong.

My windows 8 laptop will not connect to the wifi hotspot of my samsung galaxy s3. My windows 7 laptop connects just fine & the windows 8 laptop connects to my broadband router ok so it doesnt seem to be a physical problem.

I suspect it might be to do with the fact that it is has a passkey - I entered it yesterday when prompted and it connected fine, but now I'm not being given the option of entering the key.
I've also tried connected using the BT wifi (as opposed to homehub) but once again it will not connect me. I've been through all the troubleshooting options, and searched under every term I can think of, but nothing is working.
My system (Windows 8) was shut down during a power outage, and now when I try to restart, I hear the CPU go through what sounds like the normal process, but there is nothing on my monitor. I've tried the CPU with another monitor, same issue. I can access the shared folders from another computer on the network, so it looks like everything starts up OK. Before I run down to the local repair shop, is there anything I can try?

View 3 Replies View RelatedBasically, I just bought a pc, turned it on, put my old monitors vga in the port provided, and basically, I just see a black screen, the pc is booting fine, etc, but cant see anything on my old monitor.
what i did was, I went to my pc, there are 2 hdmi ports, one is the upper one, and one is down, put the hdmi one on the upper one, nothing.. wasnt able to see anything on my tv that has a hdmi input, but when I put the hdmi cable in the lowest hdmi spot I can see windows, and am able to write this now.
My question is, how can I acces my pc thru the vga port of my old monitor without having to put it in the lowest hdmi port on my tv?
My monitor measures less than 1024x768, if I install Windows 8, what will happen?

View 9 Replies View RelatedJust installed Windows 8.1. Both my monitors have a resolution of 1920 X 1080. Both have DPI set accordingly. My right hand monitor is fine, my left is fine when running the desktop and desktop apps. However, whenever I run an app on the second screen, it seems to be larger than normal (zoomed in). I think this is a DPI issue, and Ive tried tweaking the registry but to no avail. I have all the latest drivers. The start menu only displays 4 rows, yet when i move the resolution down to around 1600, it shows 5 rows.

I have two monitors connected but only one of them was working, even though I upgraded the drivers for the graphicscard, I wasn't able to enable the other monitor. This is, however, not my problem.. As part of me trying to figure it out, I hit the "Devices" button in the menu and disabled the only monitor on there. I thought it was the one which wasn't working, but it turned out to be the one already working, so now none of the monitors are on and how to get them working again.
I'm guess that I'm looking for some sort of a keyboard shortcut to enable the monitor again.
I have it set up just like I did with Win7. Screen saver set for 10 minutes, monitor power off set for 15 minutes. The problem is, the monitor doesn't turn off! To be more accurate, it DOES turn off at the 15 minute mark, for about 1 minute. Then it turns back on and the lock screen shows. Then after 1 minute, the display fades out to black, but the monitor itself is still on.
even disabling the lock screen, but nothing works. I've never been able to get the monitor to turn off for more than 1 minute.
I just built a new workstation for school and I'm having a what I think is a driver issue.
So when I bring my computer out of standby I hear it turn on but then it reset when the monitors don't come on.
Occasionally this happens when i turn on the computer or just return to it and the monitors shut off.

have the following problem on windows 8.1. When monitor after 10 minutes goes to power saving mode it wont' wake up by moving mouse or by pressing a button on keybord. To wake the monitor again i must resart the pc by pressing the restart button on pc. How can i solve this problem? Bios and drivers are updated. For motherboard i downloaded drivers from asus and for gpu i downloaded the driver from amd website
