I have acquired an HP Envy M6 laptop (AMD version with ATI graphics) and I want to do a factory reset on it so I can customize it for me. Problem is the screen is broke so I have been using it with an external monitor until I can order the replacement screen. Problem I am running into is the extended monitor will not show BIOS screens or any of the recovery screens because no signal is directed to the extended monitor until it gets into windows 8. Is there a way to make it show boot screens or any screens it cycles through prior to getting into windows?
The broke screen illuminates and occasionally shows some of the desktop at the very bottom but I cannot see anything that I need to. I would like to go ahead and reset it so when I get the new screen it will be ready to go.
Today I plugged an hdmi to vga cable into my Win 8 sony vaio, and I plugged the other VGA side of the cable into an acee 22" monitor. I then chose from the right hand windows 8 panel to "extend to monitor", the laptop screen went black, the monitor screen remained without signal (extended screen did not show on monitor) and now the laptop screen is black.
I am now stuck and both laptop and monitor screen not working.
I tried unplugging cable, pressing fn and all the f1 to f12, shift, windows button but nothing is working.
I pressed off button then switched laptop back on and it showed the sony vaio logo on laptop then the screen went black again.
how could I return my laptop screen to work and stop the screen extension which is not working and which I am sure is the case.
I currently have a 15" PC with a 3200x1800 resolution. Using Windows 8.1. I have the scaling to highest.
My 2nd external monitor is 1920 x 1200.
I am trying to extend my desktop to the 2nd monitor but is there a way to use different scaling for both the PC and monitor?
I have unchecked "use scaling for all my displays" but no matter what, I still can't change the scaling on the external display. It uses the scaling settings of my PC (scaling set to highest because of 3200x1800 resolution) and because of that, the monitor scaling shows everything large.
I'm using start8 and dual monitor setup in extended mode. Is there a way to keep the metro start menu up on 2nd monitor while have a browser or another program open on the 1st monitor.
I just want to ask I have a laptop Compaq CQ40, using windows 8 My laptop have a problem with the monitor, i guess the flexible cable of my laptop is broken Now I wanna use my Monitor PC to work (like we use projector) The question is, Can I use the monitor PC as the monitor Laptop? What item must i prepare? What must i do?
I am using a relatively new Toshiba Satellite laptop, which came with Windows 8 (64-bit). Frequently, as I am typing, the text size will suddenly enlarge. I don't believe that my wrist is interfering with the keyboard, but I can't be certain. How do I go about returning the text size to a normal viewing size in Windows 8?
I have seen some posts on internet, concerning connecting an external CRT Monitor with a Laptop computer. They pretty much said that there might be a blue cable with, and one can use it to connect that monitor with laptop. Now I am confused that mine monitor has two cables; one of which is blue and the other one is white, having three larger pins inside. Both these wires are connected to my desktop CPU. Now my question is that, it is obvious that the blue wire can be connected to my laptop but what about the other one, this wire is connected to the power supply of my desktop pc, and when it comes to laptop, would mere one wire (blue) suffice for the electricity or other things?
I bought a new laptop without OS, it's a XMG advanced with i7 4700MQ CPU, an Intel HD grafics 4600 chip and an NVIDIA geforce 765M GTX.
I installed win 8.1 and updated all drivers. The laptop itself works fine. Now I wanted to connect an external Monitor ( HP w2207h) The laptop recognizes that there is an external Monitor and that it is an HP w2207h and tries to extend the desktop to it, but the monitor itself says that there is no input signal via the HDMI input and it goes to sleepmode.
When I connect my old Laptop to it, it is no Problem, the monitor shows the extendes Desktop, so the monitor an all cables are OK. (old Laptop : Win7 core 2 duo CPU geforce 9600M GT )
With the new Laptop I have the same problem, when I try to connect it to my LG TV set via HDMI, the Laptop recognizes the TV and tries to extend the desktop ( I can move the mouse out of the internal display to the TV ) but the TV says there is no input signal.
I have set the Output to 60 Hz and different resolutions and tried to duplicate the display or only use the external one. Nothing worked.
I can't force the Laptop to use the Gforce, he decides which one he wants to use.
A friend bought the same laptop and made the same installation, but when he connects to his external moniotr everything is fine, but I don't know what kind of monitor he has and I have not connected my laptop to his monitor.
I am having an issue where, with my laptop lid closed because I use my monitor, when I reboot my laptop it never actually comes back on. If I remember to open the lid in advance, there is no issue.
I have my settings set that when my laptop lid is closed, nothing happens.
I have an ASUS laptop running 8.0 which I am running with a second screen (dell monitor) connected via VGA. I have it set so the external monitor is the primary screen and the laptop is the secondary screen. It is set for a taskbar on each display, with the primary taskbar containing the shortcuts on the monitor, so when I click them they open there. It's been working fine for months.
So I switched it on today and my taskbar shortcuts have jumped to the taskbar on the second (laptop) screen, however my external display is still set as the primary and still has my desktop icons, trashcan etc but a blank taskbar (like the one that used to be on the secondary display)! When I click the shortcuts which are now on the taskbar of the laptop screen they open on the monitor. (ie the wrong screen) I disconnected the monitor, turned off the extended desktop and set it to just use the laptop screen. All my desktop icons moved to the laptop screen but the taskbar shortcuts vanished and I was left with a blank taskbar. If I plug the monitor in again and extend the desktop they reappear, but on the wrong screen. Even if I reboot without the external screen connected I get no shortcuts until I plug in the monitor and set it to extend the desktop. I have checked all the taskbar settings and they are all correct.
I pay a used laptop Sony Vaio SVF 143100c from china , they install windows 8 Enterbrise and no other software or drivers

I've got a Samsung NP550P5C laptop with the following specs :
-i5-3210M -6 GB RAM @ 1600 MHz -1 TB HDD @ 5400 rpm -2 GB nVidia GT650M with Optimus -Windows 8 Single Language 64-bit
It came with Recovery partitions. Now using the Samsung Recovery application I had copied my recovery files to another external HDD alongwith a backup of C drive. Now all these are in some weird extensions. I refreshed my PC and then the problems began. The problems were :
-No Fn key working -Samsung recovery did not recognize factory condition recovery point,i.e,Factory reset option was gone. -The backup on external HDD was showing up on Samsung Recovery, but after clicking on it, it would go on a restart and recovery never happens.
I have a dell laptop with winows 8 preinstalled on it. Soon after the purchase of my laptop I created recovery disk. It had only a single partion that time (Only C drive). Later I created a new partition 'D' from the existing space in C drive. Now my question is , can I still use the windows recovery disc that I created at the time when I had just one partition (just C drive)??
I have a Gateway laptop running Win8. Just yesterday upon booting up, received a message below Gateway logo that it is Preparing Automatic Recovery. After this a dark blue screen and it seems to reboot and repeat.
From reading other users' dealings with this issue, I've read that the HDD might be going bad or already bad.
I've been able to click F2 repeatedly to get to the InsydeH20 Setup Utility screen, but am not sure what (if anything) should be done from here.
Also, if my HDD is bad, is it possible to recover any information off of it? I have a ton of pictures on it that will devastate my wife if they are gone forever.
Computer was running slow so I did a reset of windows. It worked but the problem still existed. My computer froze so I turned my laptop off and back on only to find it stuck in that automatic repair loop. I tried system restore, no luck. I made that bootable usb for repairing and that didn't work either. Straight repair won't work either. I have tried every option and am completely lost as to how to proceed. I need the files off the hard drive but don't have a way to connect it to anything to be able to access the files.

I have a K55A Asus laptop, and I'm having some issues trying to restore it (refreshing it at his start). I have no CD for the recovery and when I try to restore my PC by the program Window8 in stored (settings-> General -> Delete everything and reinstall Window) I get an error saying there is some files missing.
As my laptop was restarting I turn it off before it was finished restarting, now when I start it i won't stop going into recovery mode and restarting again without letting me do anything, I've tried going into safe mode by clicking f8 + shift and just f8, I also tried going into the boot by nothing works, it worked fine all the time never gave me any problem, I tried also to start it over with the windows 8 installation disk but it won't do nothing just keeps restarting , then it say it encountered a problem and is just getting some information an Ethan restarts again, I don't know what to do?
I swapped out a HDD in a samsung NP355E5C-A01AU laptop which i cloned all the recovery partitions from the original to the new HDD. Its a windows 8 partition and everything seems to be there but the laptop wont boot from it at all, it just goes into bios. I did get it to try and read from the recovery partition but get a "MBR error 1" when it tries to boot from it. I used aronis disk director 11 to do the cloning if that works. Also the original HDD was a GPT partition and thats wat i have formatted the drive as. Ive done some reading and acronis can be difficult when cloning recovery partitions and it will give u this MBR error.
When I bought my new Asus laptop, lady told me I should buy a 32 gb stick to back up o/s, as M/S no longer supply a recovery disk. I started the sequence.
control panel--recovery--create a recovery drive--then got a bit scared .....
I went through it with MS but after booting up, I inserted stick, r/c, properties, stick was empty???
When I try I get an error "The extended attributes are inconsistent" On some things I am told I need to be on the administrator account. I thought maybe that was why I was getting this issue but so I searched out and found how to enable the administrator and tried to follow that process I did the windows key + x step and selected command prompt (administrator) as directed on the Microsoft site but got a new error telling me that the program to run this is not installed.
Some of my hidden icons on the task bar have extended menus in them. So I will right click on avast and then in that menu is an arrow for a submenu under update. I click on that submenu and it displays to the right and off the screen.
Was never an issue with windows 7. If it would extend off the screen it would move the submenu off to the left of the original menu. I have classic shell running as well, would that be the cause of the issue? Or is it a windows 8 thing?
I was playing around with my OS dual booting them from Windows 8, W7 and XP but I accidentally erased my recovery partition. The bios i have is different from anything I've seen before. To boot from a cd/dvd i had to enable launch csm and secure boot control. Its the asus Q500a laptop. I just wanna know if i can download the recovery partition from somewhere and put it in my hdd.
A month ago or so I made a copy of the recovery partition using the Windows option to create recovery unit, and when it finished I chose the option to delete recovery partition from the internal hard drive.
A new 25 GB hard drive appeared, everything was fine.
Now I would like to sell this laptop but I don't know how to put the recovery partition back in its place or if it's even possible.
I know the backup it's complete because the data size t's the same and when i tried it, the restore was from the scratch, even with the sony wizard before the windows configuration.
My sony vaio laptop model is VPCEH26EN.I recently installed windows 8 pro 64 Bit.I formatted whole hard disk and installed windows 8.I had a oem recovery partition when i bought this laptop with windows 7 preinstalled. By this hard disk partition, I used to recover the whole windows to its factory condition by using F10 key. The recovery hard-disk partition was of only 11Gb.it contains the whole windows with some software already installed . But now i have no recovery partition now. How to create recovery partition with in 12GB for future purpose. The windows default system image creation usually taking 40 gb space. So its of no use. How to create a recovery partition which can be used to recover windows to its factory condition using F10 key in case of any error in future?
When two or more documents of a program (microsoft word, for example) are used then the word icons are grouped in the task bar. When the mouse pointer is put over the word icon then a little window appears with the document names. This is useful but sometimes is not fast enough.
Is there possible to display the word document title names as extended icon names. Then it wouldn't be necessary to put the mouse pointer over the icons to choose the desired word document because the document names would be displayed in a task bar like two separated icons.
I have a Lenovo Z710 laptop(see spec's)and want to make a recovery USB and also setup a backup system. This is a new machine and I don't want to make a mess of it.
I have a 32GB USB drive to make the Recovery on.Lenovo refers me to this method to make a Recovery USB :Methodology to create Recovery Media and reload a Lenovo Think system with Microsoft Windows 8 preload
Is this a good way to do this or is there a better way ?
I also need to setup a backup system, what is the best program to use for this, paid or not ?
I have a 1TB HDD in an external enclosure with 3.0 USB cable to use for the backup's.
