Force (metro) To Second Monitor?
Sep 24, 2012know of a hack or software to make sure that metro (start screen) always opens on my second monitor? This would make life with windows eight a whole lot easier.

New Metro Start Menu On 2nd Monitor
Nov 3, 2012I have 2 monitors and am wondering if there is some way to make it so that when I bring up the new metro start menu on my 2nd monitor that I can make it stick there?
As it is now, if I open the new menu on my 2nd monitor and then go back to what ever program that I have open on my first monitor (like chrome or I.E. etc) then the start menu will close from my 2nd monitor.
I'd like to make it where it stays open on my 2nd monitor. Is this somehow possible?

Metro Apps Open By Default On Center Monitor?
Sep 15, 2014I'm having a little issue with my Screen Setup and I was wondering if there's a fix to that.
I recently upgraded from to Photoshop CC after seeing a YouTube Video with someone working on the same Wacom Cintiq 24HD Touch I have using the newly introduced Experimental Touch features of PS CC.
Turns out it didn't worked THAT well on mine.
Panning, Zooming and Rotation in PS CC is totally screwed like the axis of them being totally off or outside my Screen and thus causing my Workspace to vanish off screen which is REALLY annoying.
Working with the Issue for a while I noticed that the issue could be related to me using multiple Monitors unlike the Video which only used one and the Cintiq with the Touch Interface NOT being either the center or rather the Main Monitor of the Setup.
Having the Cintiq not as the Main Monitor causes Photoshop CC to relocate the Rotational, Zoom and Move Axis to the Main Monitor and thus cause this agonizing behavior.With the Cintiq now set as the Main Monitor every Metro App I use ( including the Start Screen ) opens out of my normal Field of View.Is there a setting that allows me to keep the Cintiq ( 2 ) to be the Main Monitor because of Photoshop while having Metro Apps open by default on the Center Monitor ( 1 ) ?
I do know that hitting the Windows button in the Task bar will open the Start Screen on the screen it was hit and all Metro Apps opened from there will also open on the now active screen but working like this is kind of cumbersome as I prefer to use a Mouse button ( or the Keyboard Windows Key ) with the Windows Key assigned and there it just doesn't work like I want.

Oct 6, 2013As a Multi-Monitor user I'm currently plagues with 3 Problems concerning the Metro Style OnScreenKeyboard.
1. For most of the time it appears on the wrong Monitor - Not the one with touch capability thus forcing me to manually move it over to the right screen which, at best, is annoying.
It appears it's kind of bound to where the Start Screen currently resides but it would be a lot more useful if it could be tied to one screen.
2. On 2 of my Screens it takes up about - the screen space limiting their usefulness while on my other 2 about - which is more desireable - what triggers this behavior and how can I control it?
3. Is there an option to force the OSK to keep the last setting of which Keyboard I've used? It keeps reverting to the simple one when I'd like to use the Advanced one.

Aug 21, 2013Today I plugged an hdmi to vga cable into my Win 8 sony vaio, and I plugged the other VGA side of the cable into an acee 22" monitor. I then chose from the right hand windows 8 panel to "extend to monitor", the laptop screen went black, the monitor screen remained without signal (extended screen did not show on monitor) and now the laptop screen is black.
I am now stuck and both laptop and monitor screen not working.
I tried unplugging cable, pressing fn and all the f1 to f12, shift, windows button but nothing is working.
I pressed off button then switched laptop back on and it showed the sony vaio logo on laptop then the screen went black again.
how could I return my laptop screen to work and stop the screen extension which is not working and which I am sure is the case.
Any buttons on keyboard to click at all?

Dec 18, 2012I am currently running a 64 bit version of Windows 8 Pro with all available MS updates applied to it.
I have the need to change the name of one of the program groups that appear on the All Apps screen.
Let's say the group name is "Test". And I want to change the name to "Answer".
I navigate to the Desktop interface.
I go to: C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms
I rename the folder "Test" to "Answer"
I navigate back to the Metro interface.
I open the All Apps screen, but I still "see" the group named "Test".
Even if I log out and log back on. Or. if I log on as a different user.
Is there a way for me to force Windows 8 to update the All Apps screen ?
By the way ........
The above folder has a shortcut in it that points to Notepad.exe.
If I follow the same procedure (above) to rename the shortcut inside of the folder, the new shortcut name appears immediately when I return to the All Apps screen.
It's only the group name, that is not refreshing on the All Apps screen. (For some reason.)
Any Harm In Doing A Force Power Shutdown?
Jun 6, 2014I had to do force power shutdown it while the whole system got stuck up following Prime95 stability scan when I customised blend settings for CPU 100% load along with 92% memory usage. Next time it was when the system freezed following CoreTemp startup (when I researched it through forums i could notice that the freezing issue is a bug in their latest version still persisting while running on win 8.1 OS). The last one was when I had to do when while shutting down normally I unplugged the usb connection from the port and system remained 'on' for unusually long time while screen had already turned off.

Jan 23, 2014On Acer 3820TG (Win 8.1) I am trying to force system to use hybrid shutdown/fast startup function. I've already tried all steps from this topic: Fast Startup - Force Use by All Users in Windows 8 but no success - system performs full shutdown. The only solution that works for me is shutting down with command "shutdown.exe /s /hybrid /t 0". Then system shuts down in ~5 sec and starts in ~15 s.
If you shut down a computer from the right-click-left-bottom-corner menu in desktop mode, then click Shutdown -> system performs full shutdown. If you click Shutdown in charms bar -> system performs hybrid shutdown. Now my PC is starting in 8s, laptop in 15s.

Oct 19, 2013When I did a clean install of Windows 8, I simply left the password field blank. The computer is a single user and in Windows 8 mode it starts up automatically with no sign in or password required. Same when it wakes from a monitor shutdown. No sign in or password needed.

Anyway as the title suggests I'm trying to run STEF (Star Trek Elite Force) in WinXP which I installed on VirtualBox but I keep getting a error: The virtual machine window is optimized to work in 32 bit color mode but the virtual display is currently set to 16 bit.

So I changed it in the control panel then booted the game still the same error so I opened the properties for the game and checked run at 265 bit color booted it and got an error which stated that it could not load the OpenGL subsystem.

Aug 21, 2014Recently I decided to go ahead and update to the Windows 8.1 version of the Realtek HD Audio Driver. I procrastinated because it told me I'd have to uninstall the original audio driver and I knew it would take a while to do everything needed. It didn't work that after uninstalling the original audio driver, then restarting like Windows told me to do, I kept getting error messages that forced my computer to restart until eventually my computer let me log in and install the updated audio driver.
However, with the updated version of this driver I had the same issue I got with the original one only much much worse. The original Realtek HD Audio Driver that I had on my computer made music and videos sound absolutely awful when headphones were plugged in. I found out that this is because the driver automatically puts on so-called "enhancements" whenever headphones are plugged in. This was a very simple fix, simply go to "Sound", then under "Playback" you click on "Speakers", then go to "Enhancements" and check the box labeled "Disable all sound effects." Then sound through headphones would return to normal.
Well, with the Window 8.1 version of this audio driver, I can do the same thing, but it never stays that way. Every time I plug in my headphones, it resets back to having enhancements. The strange thing though is that it says the enhancements are disabled but when I reactivate the enhancements(No difference in sound quality) then deactivate it again, suddenly the sound through my headphones is back to normal.
Did the audio driver not install properly? Is there something I can do to permanently disable the audio enhancements?

May 1, 2014Sometimes if I bring a new Linux server machine up online and take down an old one some Windows machines cannot see the new machine but still list old computers in the Network mapping.
Is there a command to FORCE a rescan of Network computers without REBOOTING the windows machine.
I've waited 15 mins and Network still shows OLD server and not the new one.
(The Linux new server sees ALL the Windows machines once the SAMBA service starts and can access THEIR shares !!).
example -- new server is GYLFI-EXT (has Movies etc streaming data), Old Server GYLFI
Windows only sees OLD server
New Server sees Windows and can access its shares.
Nothing running on the Windows machine currently so I can't see what's stopping it getting the new machine. (I'm trying to stream my movies to it -- works fine when I can SEE the server !!!!).
A (Windows) reboot fixes this stuff but I shouldn't have to do it.
Updates :: Force Updates Installation During Shutdown?
Oct 6, 2013It seems that Windows 8 will only install some updates after a restart. No surprises here. However, since the Windows 8 "user" shutdown is not a real shutdown, but a hibernation (hence it will not be followed by a restart, and will not install updates), Windows 8 forces us to an extra restart/reboot. Is there a a way to simulate the logical behaviour of all previous Windows editions? That is, when updates that require a restart are installed, if the user shuts down, the updates get installed and the pc shuts down...Currently, my only away around this, is to select restart, wait... then enter the BIOS and turn off the pc there... Not intuitive.
