LAN Not Detecting Ethernet Cords - Windows 8 Restore
May 9, 2014
I'm having some problems with my PC. Here is the model of my PC "Asus Desktop: M51AC".
So basically what's going on is I did a fresh re install of my operating system Windows 8 which came with the PC installed. Everything went fine, everything was working! I did some updates and then it fails, there was a bunch including 51 updates and Windows 8.1 so it was downloading. At the installation part it shows a error. I restarted my PC and I noticed I wasn't connected to the internet. I updated all my drivers, and when it crashed it showed a yellow mark by these devices.
realtek pcie gbe family controller
sm bus controller
sm bus
Those were the only ones with a yellow mark by it. I fixed it by installing the latest drivers, the error code was error code 10 could not start, it was for all of these devices. I installed the latest drivers now it doesn't show the errors but yet it still does not work, and my PC doesn't detect the Ethernet cable from my router anymore. I searched this on every forum, and used google lol, for about 3-4 hours now over a update failing. I re-installed my OS again and it still does not work. I think it blew a fuse or something and it's not detecting it, I dont honestly know. I went in command prompt and pinged 127.0.0.1 and received 4 packets somehow which is odd.
recently my windows 7's some system files got corrupt . won't start after windows logo (when the arrow shows up=>always bsod, even in safemode). so I decided to format C and install fresh windows 8. . Then I had four partitions
C:windows(7) D:Softwares E:Games F:Mix Stuff.
My plan was to format C (of course for windows 8) and D (as C had only 20Gb space so I thought I would also format D 46Gb and give C 45Gb and D 20-21Gb as it was useless to me and contained only a bunch of crappy softwares ). Well, it FAILED here's how. after formatting C and D I deleted them thinking that boths unallocated space will merge. but it DID'NT. After deleting I tried creating new partition on D but it FAILED "we cannot create create new partition" (search google 'cause others also sometimes have this ****** error many times). Then I did same thing with C and it WORKED. I had to give it again 20Gb (maximum) - NO CHOICE. Then I installed Windows 8 on C. (thinking I will later format D on desktop) . Now here's the scenario : I DO NOT WANT TO FORMAT E: AND F: AS IT CONTAINS MY PRECIOUS DATA.
After the startup config, 'Startup' came up I went to Desktop then Computer and then wow what?
Only C: I found there 7.67Gb free of 19.5GB. Where are others gone .
UPDATE :. I went to disk management and saw only (C:) other 138Gb (something) was unallocated space .Then just for checking I booted my pc from windows installation usb and on the drive screen I saw C 19.5-20Gb and same Unallocated space 138Gb.
I recently purchased a new Dell XPS laptop with SSD. The first thing I did after receiving it was to split the C drive into two using Easeus Partition Manager. Probably due to this, neither Windows nor the Dell Backup & Recovery software detect the recovery partition any more.
When I launch Windows built in recovery creator, it's 'Copy the recovery partition from the PC to the recovery drive' option is grayed out. If I click next, it would say 'We can't create a recovery drive on this PC. Some required files are missing'.
Dell Backup and Recovery says 'Corrupted Environment. Dell Backup and Recovery has not been able to detect the Recovery Partition on this computer. It may be missing or corrupted." (see screenshots below). One thing I am 100% sure is that the recovery partition is present and is intact. I was able to create a bootable USB using Dell Backup and Recovery (this is different from a full recovery media in the sense that the laptop will boot from USB, and then recover from the recovery partition). Using this USB, I was able to restore the OS properly. Unfortunately, even after this factory restore, Windows doesn't detect the recovery partition.
1. Output of diskpart Here, partition 4 and partition 9 both have WinRE.wim. Partition 4 also has Reagent.xml. Both have the GUID same, but offset is different.
2. Output of various commands Code: reagentc /disable successful
Code: reagentc /info & reagentc /enable REAGENTC.EXE: Operation failed: 3 REAGENTC.EXE: An error has occurred.
Code: recimg /showcurrent The recovery image configuration cannot be found. The system cannot access the configuration file. Error Code - 0x80070002
3. I also tried modifying the c:WindowsSystem32ReAgent.xml file without success. Based on the output of 'diskpart detail partition' shown below, I updated the file.
Attempt 1: Attempt 2:
Code: Here, 'WinRe.wim' is located in 'Partition 9WindowsRecovery'. That's why I used 'WindowsRecovery' as the 'WinreLocation path'.
I'm in Window 8 on a Toshiba L855-S5112 Satellite laptop. It's an inexpensive laptop, which was most likely my first mistake.
But... My wireless sees nothing, and when I check the device manager for the network adapter info, it's enabled and it reports that it's working fine. the wifi switch is definitely set to on. With "show hidden devices" turned on, this is what I see for network adaptors:
So I'm rolling along the internet and I start noticing that the wifi bars in the lower corner have gone down to 4. My internet is running slower and when I log on and play online games, the local server which gave me a 50 ping is now jumped up to about 300-800 easily...
So I run trouble shooter (and malware bytes) and this gem pops up:
"Windows cannot automatically detect this network's proxy settings."
I run google chrome as my internet browser, but as of late Norton has been blocking chrome and my wife started using Internet Explorer...but when we disable Norton, Chrome works fine.
This problem has just started several weeks. I use internet by my router WiFi connected to my PC it just keep disconnecting from the WiFi after i always reboot my PC then i can connect again but today i tried to restarting my computer and try to reconnect but i cannot find the WiFi network, i don't know why.
Now i am using WiFi USB, but its very slow and i also tried to disconnect it and if the WiFi network will stay or not, unfortunately directly after disconnect the USB, the WiFi disappear.
yesterday my PC stopped booting normally and now will rarely detect my SSD when booting leaving me with a blank screen with a blinking cursor in the top left until it reboots again. I have spent most of the day trying to troubleshoot this issue but I am baffled by this, it seems completely random if it will detect the drive and boot to it. My best guess is that the SATA controller on the motherboard is responsible and is failing. Is there anything else that could be causing this?
System: Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit AMD Phenom II X4 965 8.00GB DDR3 @ 667MHz MSI 760GM-P34(FX) <--- Very cheap MB ATI Radeon HD 7950 3GB 223GB INTEL SSDSC2CT240A3 931GB Seagate ST1000DM003-1CH162
Edit: I ran a full diagnostic scan using Intel's SSD Toolbox but didn't find any issues.
Ok now i bought this usb dongle today and installed it successfully on windows 8 for 4 hrs trying to make it connect my android phone to the pc using bluetooth but in vain. It worked one time but went of in an instant. The drivers all have been installed correctly, and i have tried reinstalling with all the drivers available but it never worked.
I used the file explorer on desktop to move a bunch of pictures off an external backup drive and into the pictures folder within my pictures library. They now show up under the pictures library in desktop. But the Metro Pictures app insists that there are no pictures in my pictures library.
I was prompted by my OS last week to install 8.1 because it was gonna be "great!" so I did and on reboot, was greeted with a bsod. My computer dude said that it was time for a reinstall, so that's what I did during the course of the day. It's a fresh install, fully updated (8.1). I have three drives attached; two 500 GB disks and a 250GB. The computer is seeing one of the 500GB and the 250GB disks properly, but the other 500GB is only showing one partition it seems. It's labeled system reserve and is 350MB in size.
My virtual machines are housed on the other partition and I could really use them. How do I get the Windows install to allow me access to the whole drive?
I have a Lenovo G585 laptop that I installed with Linux (tried dual boot) and accidentally wiped out the Windows 8.1 restore partition. Now I want to restore it to Windows. I also have a Dell desktop Windows 8.1 that I can use to to create a USB restore image, can I use a restore image from a desktop to fix a laptop?
I recently upgraded my OS from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, and everything seemed to run normally. I have to connect to the internet via ethernet cable, which isn't a problem at all. However, whenever I plug in the battery charger, the ethernet connection stops working, but I can still connect via Wifi adapter.
I can't use wifi most of the time, so this does bother me a lot.
The cable works on a different computer, the computer gets wireless fine (typing to you from it) but will not read an ethernet cable. The motherboard manual (built the PC myself from components) says an LED should light-up if an ethernet cable is connected, no such LED appears when I connect the cable.
I went to a PC-Shop that fixed it by putting another driver on the PC.But now I have a new PC and after 6 months without any problems Windows suddenly decides there is no ethernet cable plugged in the PC. I've googled for hours and hours trying diffrent things, but nothing seems to work . The cable itself is fine because when I plug it into my laptop it works fine. I've updated my driver, deleted it and try to reinstall, which also failed. I tried out some commands through CMD, which also failed.
It is a custom-build PC with a Asus Z87-A motherboard (in-case that's necessary to know) and the driver that's installed is Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. OS: Windows 8.1.
So I just installed Windows 8 on my gaming rig. I gotta say, after being skeptical of this whole OS for a while, installing it fresh and trying it out shows just how useful (and FAST) it can be.
The only thing about Windows 8 that isn't fast is my ethernet adapter. When connected, downloads are slow, pages take long to respond, videos are constantly choppy and buffering, etc. Looking at the ethernet connection in Task manager, it looks like the connection is being speed capped at 1.0 Mbps. The graph of the speed fluctuates up and down in the low range, but hits a wall at 1.0 mbps.
This wasn't the case when I had Win 7- I could easily pull 80 Mbps on speedtest.net (Chattanooga fibre optic internet FTW). My WiFi adapter in Win 8 also does not have this problem, but I want to use the wired connection because the campus wi-fi is unreliable. I have already updated the LAN drivers, trying both the Windows- suggested driver and the one from the manufacturer website. No difference. How I can start installing my steam games and not have it take 5 years?
My wireless connection is fine, but my LAN isn't. This is a university subscription so there is a proxy server. I asked the school if they have activated my subscription and they said yes. I tried changing cables but it still would not connect. I know the proxy server settings are correct because there is also a wireless connection in school which uses the same settings.
I ran network diagnostics and it said that the connection between the cable and the internet is not working. When I open Chrome, it says that the DNS lookup failed. I tried resetting my TCP/IP, setting my preferred DNS address to 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222 but it still would not work.
I check my ethernet driver settings in Device Manager and it is fine and updated to the latest version.
I recently put together a new 64-bit Windows 8 Build. Everything is running fine except my Ethernet connection.
I use the build in my office and my co-workers are consistently getting download speeds of 30+Mbps using speedtest.net. Unfortunately, my speeds were around 5Mbps.
I narrowed down the issue to a network driver conflict. After downloading and installing the latest drivers from Realtek, my internet speeds jumped to 30+Mbps on Speedtest. The only issue is everytime I reboot the computer, the same problem occurs. I have to fiddle around with device manager disabling/uninstalling the default drivers and/or reinstalling the Realtek drivers.
Windows keeps reverting back to the signed older driver causing the issue, instead of the newer unsigned version from Realtek.
I'm trying to set up a router, but the setup keeps telling me that my Ethernet adapter is not working. The Ethernet adapter troubleshooting tells me that the computer is configured correctly but the DNS server is not responding. (During this time the Internet is working as I have the cable plugged in to the computer.) I have the adapter set to automatically find the DNS server. I have run ipconfig/flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns to no avail. Do I need to get another network adapter? My laptop is probably at least 6 years old, and this problem started after I upgraded to 8 from XP - I had the router set up just fine on the old version.
just noticed my Vaio ethernet port isn't working. it says the adaptor is working normally, but when I plug in an ethernet cable is says the cable is not plugged in. I tried it with two different cables that work elsewhere.
I wonder if the laptop ethernet card is faulty? Wireless is working fine.
I only ever use it to hard connect the router during setup, so it could have been out of order even before my Win7 to 8.1 upgrade.
So I've been using this router, Belkin N+ wireless router F5D8235-4 v2, for a while now and It hasn't had problems most of the time and I've been using it fine with my DSL modem. My mother connects with her Nook tablet, my father with his laptop, and sometimes my phone and no problems. Until the other day when I randomly went to go on my computer I had no internet connection so I
1) Reset modem and router like I always do, still nothing.
2) Tried windows trouble shooting and gave me this message """"Ethernet" does not have a valid IP config".
3) I unplugged my Ethernet cable from my modem to the router and directly connected it from modem to computer and everything works fine and doesn't randomly lag out like before.
My connection just went 'limited connection' but I can browse and download on the web with ease. Also, my metro apps like mail, and news, facebook does not update, and also it's live tiles. Windows store app says it can't connect to the internet.
I'm using an Nvidia nForce ethernet built in an Asrock n68c-s ucc motherboard.I tried to find updates for this nvidia nforce but managed to get only for windows 7. so installed it, and nothing happens.
Everything was fine, until recently, when I turn on my PC, I don't get an immediate internet connection. This is happening nearly everytime now with some frequency.
I reset the router/modem and everything is fine after that, so all is good.
But it is still frustrating. I get, "Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration".
Following are screenshots of my 'ipconfig' and 'Network Connection Status' before (unsuccessful) and after (successful) internet access:
You will see from the above that there is certainly something different with the data...
Incidentally, I did find a nice youtube 'tutorial' in relation to this subject title about manually configurating the settings:
I haven't tried this yet and that is probably down to the fact that I can't find my alternate DNS server setting (the very last box to fill in - watch the video and you will know what I mean) ???
With windows 7 i was able to do this by going to network settings and all of that and had no issues. Now with windows 8 I plug in my cable but it says the device is an unidentified network an I cannot figure out how to alter these settings.
Recently I have been intermittently getting disconnected from the internet while gaming / streaming. If I ran the troubleshooter, the error that I got was "Default gateway not available". Resetting my router/modem and restarting the PC every time it happened seemed to resolve this for a while. and is now accompanied by another error saying that "Ethernet" doesn't have a valid IP configuration. This is much more frequent now, every 10-20 minutes or so. I am on wired internet coming from the combo router/modem from my ISP/Cable co.
Attached is my ipconfig /all while working and after the error.
I bought a a Lenovo IdeaPad P400 Touch laptop last week, with Windows 8 64-bit OS. I went through the general setup and had the computer working in no time; wireless and Ethernet connections worked fine for a few days and then I began getting "Limited" connectivity errors on both the Wi-fi and Ethernet. After the initial setup, I ran windows update and tried to install vmVare, then I realized this "Limited Connectivity" problem. After that, I uninstalled the vmware and all other software I had installed since I received the laptop but internet connectivity was not restored.
Nearly frustrated over this, I restored my laptop to its initial (factory setup) status and reinstalled the Windows 8 OS that the manufacturer stored on a built-in D drive, using the Lenovo OneKey Recovery process. During the restoration process, I had to re run Windows setup (like a new computer). I had hoped this would reverse any issues I had with internet connectivity, but it did not work. In fact, Windows 8 could not connect to the internet during setup and I had to create a local account to finish the setup.
After completing the setup, I visited the windows 8 forums and tried using a recommended solution for re-setting tcp/ip (netsh winsock reset catalog and netsh int ip reset reset.log hit), restarted my laptop but the problem still persists.
I even ran the IPResetAll app posted by Chev65 but got this screen shot instead:
C:windowssystem32>pushdwindowssystem32driversetc C:WindowsSystem32driversetc>attrib -h -s -r hosts Path not found - C:WindowsSystem32driversetc C:WindowsSystem32driversetc>echo 127.0.0.1 localhost 1>HOSTS Access is denied.

A the moment I am stuck and can't use my laptop because I need to activate Windows online. Laptop keeps restarting telling me to activate Windows now.
I have Laptop and Desktop (windows 7 ultimate) I use it to play games, But I wanna transfer my Games (files) to my new laptop using Ethernet Cable or Crossover cable. I lost my 16 gb USB so I just transfer via Ethernet Cable but How?
