PC Workstation - Ethernet Doesn't Have Valid IP Configuration?
Feb 4, 2014
I have a brand new PC workstation.
Everything was fine, until recently, when I turn on my PC, I don't get an immediate internet connection. This is happening nearly everytime now with some frequency.
I reset the router/modem and everything is fine after that, so all is good.
But it is still frustrating. I get, "Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration".
Following are screenshots of my 'ipconfig' and 'Network Connection Status' before (unsuccessful) and after (successful) internet access:
You will see from the above that there is certainly something different with the data...
Incidentally, I did find a nice youtube 'tutorial' in relation to this subject title about manually configurating the settings:
I haven't tried this yet and that is probably down to the fact that I can't find my alternate DNS server setting (the very last box to fill in - watch the video and you will know what I mean) ???
Nothing would fix the problem ""Ethernet" doesn't have a valid IP configuration".
After playing a match in "League of Legends" with my desktop I noticed my ping went up and I disconnected right after, I looked at my network icon in the taskbar and saw an yellow error mark. I clicked on the network icon and it said "Unidentified Network" and "Limited". I tried to troubleshoot the problem and the problem found was: "Ethernet" doesn't have a valid IP configuration. I ran ipconfig with the cmd tool and I noticed Ipv4 Address was 169.254.171.146 (As ive heard that means windows is using a default ip by itself).
I have a lot of devices in my house like laptops and smart-phones that work perfectly good. One thing that did work was sharing 3G internet from my iPhone to my desktop via usb.
Solutions tried: Resetting router, disabled the "allow computer to turn of this device to save power" in ethernet options, tried different cables, restarting pc and updated drivers (installing the driver to a usb from my laptop).
A few days ago I had to restart my PC after a game froze. When I booted up again I found I was unable to connect to the internet. Troubleshooting gave the error 'Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration.'
I can connect to the modem with my laptop using the same cable, so I don't think its an issue with the router or cable. I was told that programs could cause issues with the network adapters, so after backing up my data I wiped my computer and re-installed windows from a bootable usb.
Here is the IP config data.
I've run the flushdns file, but it seems to timeout while running the Ipconfig /renew command.
Following instructions from another thread I was told to reset the TCP/IP stack. Running the command gave the following.
From there I followed instructions to use regedit to change permissions, which enabled me to run the command without errors, however I was still unable to connect to the router when my computer reset.
I'm using an ethernet cord to connect to my internet and it has been working well until Thursday morning when I turned on my laptop (Windows 8) to see a yellow triangle sign in the bottom right hand corner, in front of the ethernet connected symbol. Since then I haven't been able been able to access the internet from my computer. When I hover over it, it says that it is an "Unidentified network" and there is "No internet access". I've run the Windows 8 troubleshooting and it says that the problem found was ""Ethernet" doesn't have a valid IP configuration", but I'm unsure how to fix it.
I'm thinking that the problem is to do with my computer rather than my network, because I've tried another laptop (Windows 7) through the same ethernet cable and connection and the internet works fine on the other laptop. I've tried so many fixes that I've found online, with none of them actually working. Yesterday I even tried a full system reset, where I reinstalled Windows 8, repartitioned and wiped everything off the hard drive, but it still appears have the exact same problem.
Today I also purchased and tried a new ethernet cable which didn't work, so I then purchased a USB to Ethernet adapter, to make sure that it wasn't my ethernet port on my laptop that was faulty. That didn't work either, and the same problem still remains.
I've had my modem connected straight to my computer via ethernet cable and never really had any problems. I recently downloaded itunes to listen music on my ipod and i know this probably isn't the problem but weeks later i was prompted to download an update for itunes and of course I clicked restart after update but start up computer and internet did not work. It was this "Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration."
I've tried resetting the modem and nothing. It is worth noting that I reformatted to see if it would fix it but nothing. but once i connect my modem directly to my laptop it works perfectly fine. I also including attachments so i could possibly be better assisted. Also worth noting my motherboard is a Asus crosshair formula IV which unfortunately doesn't have updated windows 8 drivers but never gave me problems before. the ipconfig with black background is the laptop ipconfig.
I bought a a Lenovo IdeaPad P400 Touch laptop last week, with Windows 8 64-bit OS. I went through the general setup and had the computer working in no time; wireless and Ethernet connections worked fine for a few days and then I began getting "Limited" connectivity errors on both the Wi-fi and Ethernet. After the initial setup, I ran windows update and tried to install vmVare, then I realized this "Limited Connectivity" problem. After that, I uninstalled the vmware and all other software I had installed since I received the laptop but internet connectivity was not restored.
Nearly frustrated over this, I restored my laptop to its initial (factory setup) status and reinstalled the Windows 8 OS that the manufacturer stored on a built-in D drive, using the Lenovo OneKey Recovery process. During the restoration process, I had to re run Windows setup (like a new computer). I had hoped this would reverse any issues I had with internet connectivity, but it did not work. In fact, Windows 8 could not connect to the internet during setup and I had to create a local account to finish the setup.
After completing the setup, I visited the windows 8 forums and tried using a recommended solution for re-setting tcp/ip (netsh winsock reset catalog and netsh int ip reset reset.log hit), restarted my laptop but the problem still persists.
I even ran the IPResetAll app posted by Chev65 but got this screen shot instead:
C:windowssystem32>pushdwindowssystem32driversetc C:WindowsSystem32driversetc>attrib -h -s -r hosts Path not found - C:WindowsSystem32driversetc C:WindowsSystem32driversetc>echo 127.0.0.1 localhost 1>HOSTS Access is denied.

A the moment I am stuck and can't use my laptop because I need to activate Windows online. Laptop keeps restarting telling me to activate Windows now.
I bought a new lenovo laptop with built-in windows 8 OS. Just after a few days I started using it, networking problems arose. When I tried to connect to a wireless router,it shows connected but could not browse even. Troubleshooting gives a message that "WiFi does not have a valid IP configurations" or "Problem with wireless adopter and access point" or "Network cable is not properly plugged in". I contacted Lenovo chat support and tried re-installing the latest drivers, but couldn't solve the problem. i still couldn't connect to the wireless network properly.
Recently I have been intermittently getting disconnected from the internet while gaming / streaming. If I ran the troubleshooter, the error that I got was "Default gateway not available". Resetting my router/modem and restarting the PC every time it happened seemed to resolve this for a while. and is now accompanied by another error saying that "Ethernet" doesn't have a valid IP configuration. This is much more frequent now, every 10-20 minutes or so. I am on wired internet coming from the combo router/modem from my ISP/Cable co.
Attached is my ipconfig /all while working and after the error.
I know I have the password right and I am definitely in range. Other devices work on the network also. I have the network diagnostics report and a screenshot of my IP configuration included.

If you're connected to a hotspot or domain network, contact the network administrator. Otherwise: 1. Unplug or turn off the device. 2. After all the lights on the device are off, wait at least 10 seconds. 3. Turn the device on or plug it back into the power outlet. To restart a router or modem that has a built-in battery, press and quickly release the Reset button.

Randomly, my wifi disconnects many times a day (Limitted conectivity or ), sometimes every 5 minutes. I solve the problem temporarly by:
1.)Running the Troubleshoot of the wifi connection, and it resets the adapter automatically( and at the end of the troubleshotting it says: "WiFi doesnt Have a valid IP configuration, or sometimes The default gateway is not available") 2.)Sometimes the Troubleshooter cant reset the adapter, and I have to do it manually.
By resetting the adapter, the problem is solved only temporarily, because I have to do that mayby 20 times a day, sometimes more, sometimes less.
I use Windows 8 on Asus K55 VJ , Intel Centrino 2230 adapter with up to date driver.
The wifi is not working only on my laptop since 2 days! it was working before and it still is working with all other gadgets and other laptops just not working with my HP laptop.it installed some windows update couple of days back.
I have tried
netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries) netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)"
I have also tried restoring to the last recovery point. Nothing has worked so far.
I bought a new laptop HP 650. The wireless was working fine for couple of days until i believe it stopped working after falling into sleep mode according to the user. now, it connects to internet fine when it connects using a cable but with wifi connection, it says limited connection.i have reformatted the computer to factory default settings.
I have tried to run windows network diagnostics and the error it gives me is "WiFi doesn't have a valid IP Configuration.."
The wireless network card is Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn Wi-Fi Adapter. It says the driver is up to date.
I recently got windows 8 and have found it to be rather volatile. I use WiFi in my house on my desktop Intel PC and my computer strangely sometimes works to get to the internet and sometimes it doesn't coming up with connection limited and after troubleshooting it "doesn't have a valid ip configuration". Ive tried the netsh winsock and the ip reset commands in command prompt (admin) and nothing happens i'm really at a loss. According to some people A/V programs can mess stuff up so i uninstalled them.

I have a relatively new HP Envy (H8-1485ea), with no modifications made, running windows 8. I have had the been using it with a wired connection at university with no problems and on return home connected wirelessly. Initially I encountered no issues, however after about 2 days the status of the connection went to limited and has remained that way since.
On running the windows troubleshooter it stated that the "wifi doesn't have a valid ip configuration".
I searched and found to run the commands which resolved similar problems: netsh winsock reset catalog netsh int ip reset rest.log hit
However as shown in the attached image for the second command resetting failed. I have also attached my ip configuration.
I got this msg tryng to refresh my pc . because my vaio gate app wasnt working right . so after the restar i just got the blue screen with this error the boot configutating data file dosent have valid infomation of an operating system.
So I've been using this router, Belkin N+ wireless router F5D8235-4 v2, for a while now and It hasn't had problems most of the time and I've been using it fine with my DSL modem. My mother connects with her Nook tablet, my father with his laptop, and sometimes my phone and no problems. Until the other day when I randomly went to go on my computer I had no internet connection so I
1) Reset modem and router like I always do, still nothing.
2) Tried windows trouble shooting and gave me this message """"Ethernet" does not have a valid IP config".
3) I unplugged my Ethernet cable from my modem to the router and directly connected it from modem to computer and everything works fine and doesn't randomly lag out like before.
I have the same problem, I used to connect to my collage wifi, which is powered by sonicwall for the past 1 year, but I can't able to connect it anymore from my room.... I use TP link wifi routerTL-WN7200ND...my signals are good in my room buy it not connecting, saying unidentified network... I tried formatting c dive and re installed OS and all, I tried even windows 7, but my problem is not solved, I tried ipconfig cmd command and many, but none of them worked for me.... I forgot tell something, I can connect to the proxy from a 10 rooms after my room, with the same signal strength... but not from my room....
I am trying to troubleshoot a network connectivity issue for my Mom & Dad's laptop. It is an HP 64-bit running Windows 8.1. Up until this morning, it was able to connect to wi-fi. My mother was on the internet with no problems. They have my-fi with AT&T and my dad's laptop and tablet connect fine.
We have tried: -Restarting the HP taking the battery out uninstalling the wi-fi network adapter -Restarting and letting it reinstall for getting the network -Manually adding the network back in and nothing worked.
So, I took the laptop back to my house and connected it directly into my router via Ethernet cable, but to my surprise, it showed connected, but no internet connection. I ran the troubleshooter and it said that "Ethernet" doesn't have a valid IP config. I restarted the laptop with the ethernet plugged in, but it came back up with limited connectivity and the same error message. I tried connecting to my wifi at my house and again, it sees the various networks, but will not connect. I get a message when I hit the connect button that it is Checking network requirements, but then after about 30-45 seconds it says Can't connect to this network. All of the other laptops/pc's/tablets and phones are connecting just fine.
Just got a brand-new desktop. Unfortunately, I will not be able to use an ethernet cable BUT I have a USB network adapter. I know for sure that it works (I've used it on my laptop). The network adapter seems to have installed properly; I am able to pull up "Available Networks". However, when I try to connect to my home Wi-Fi and put in my password, it always says "connecting to the network is taking longer than usual" and then never connects. Multiple other devices in the house (smartphones, laptops, desktops) are all connecting to our network with no problems.
I've tried all of the Windows troubleshooters and wizards --- didn't work.
I've tried changing the wireless network channel from 6 to 8 --- didn't work.
I've tried netsh winsock reset catalog and netsh int ip reset reset.log hit in the command prompt --- didn't work.
It now shows that it has "limited" connection...but I cannot pull anything up in the browser. What the troubleshooter is telling me now is: "Wi-Fi does not have a valid IP configuration".
I upgraded to windows 8 and have had no problem when I booted up my compaq presario. I was not online went to the control panel to troubleshoot my internet connection and was told that my Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration and that "Default gateway" is not available. I am hardwired into my AT&T router (the same router that is serving three other laptops in my home without any problems). I downloaded the v1.7.0.0 driver but I'm not sure if it installed as I am still having to manually reset my ethernet adaptor via the control panel each time I restart the computer.
I like having my monitor power off soon after activity stops. Currently, I have it powering off after 2 minutes of inactivity. I am also very big on locking my PC when I step away. So, I also have the screen saver kick in after 2 minutes. (Of course, I never even see a screen saver because the monitor is off. And, in fact, my screen saver is set to "None". So this setting essentially means the PC is set to lock after 2 minutes.)
However, what often happens is that I'm sitting at the PC, and the monitor turns off, but I don't want it to lock. I move the mouse, and it's locked--even if I intervened within a second or two.
With Windows XP, I used to be able to use the ScreenSaverGracePeriod registry value to work around this. I've tried this with my Windows 8 system, but it doesn't work. I have tried using ScreenSaverGracePeriod as both REG_SZ and as DWORD.
Is there any way to delay the PC from locking after the monitor powers off by just a few seconds? I know I can have the monitor power off after 2 minutes but set the screen saver to 3 minutes, but I'd like to reduce the delay to a matter of seconds, if that is possible.
I recently bought a computer from a local computer store. It came with Windows 8.1 pre-installed and had a burn-in run on it. I don't like how they setup my accounts, plus neither me nor the administrator account can mount iso images, it says we don't have the permissions. I tried the WindowsSetupBox.exe and Windows8-setup.exe from the windows website but I get a error saying it is not valid for retail version of windows 8.1. My CD key is for "Windows 8.1 Pro For OEN Software". I then tried downloading MICROSOFT.WINDOWS.8.1.SINGLE.LANGUAGE.RTM.X64.ENGLISH.DVD-WZT and it said my key doesn't match any available images.
I can't do clean install for win 8.1 update 1 retail pro version, due to product key problem.i tried many keys still the same problem, key isn't valid, the key that i bought is working only when upgrading from windows 7 only?
So my computer started blue screening on start-up. I tried using system restore while booting both points I had were corrupted. I did chkdsk /r and I have to restart to start it. I restart, and the thing freezes on 20% for 2-3 hours, and my computer restarts. Not sure if it's a crash or something else. So I boot into safe mode, which is the only thing that doesn't blue screen, and try to reset Windows from there. It tells me I need some installation media, so I install Windows 8 into a USB, following the instructions step by step. It formats the USB automatically and installs Windows on it. I go to PC settings and click on the option to reset my computer. I insert the media it requires and it tells me "The media inserted is not valid." I retried all the steps three times now, and it still does not work.
I am running Excel 2007 and have been working on files and ONLY saving them to my USB memory stick.
On connecting the device to my PC (using an extension USB cord) I noticed a very brief minute blue like spark, and didn'y release until I tried to access my files that the entire content was wiped.
Excel cannot open the file 'LostFile_XLSX_608879.xlsx' because the file format or file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file.
Well I think it looks fine to me, and I endeavoureed to use the Open & Repair when openng the file too, with no luck.
