Error With Windows Reset Media Inserted Is Not Valid?

Aug 12, 2014

So my computer started blue screening on start-up. I tried using system restore while booting both points I had were corrupted. I did chkdsk /r and I have to restart to start it. I restart, and the thing freezes on 20% for 2-3 hours, and my computer restarts. Not sure if it's a crash or something else. So I boot into safe mode, which is the only thing that doesn't blue screen, and try to reset Windows from there. It tells me I need some installation media, so I install Windows 8 into a USB, following the instructions step by step. It formats the USB automatically and installs Windows on it. I go to PC settings and click on the option to reset my computer. I insert the media it requires and it tells me "The media inserted is not valid." I retried all the steps three times now, and it still does not work.

Windows 8 Will Freeze When Media Inserted

Dec 31, 2013

Occasionally, and not immediately repeatable, W8.1 will freeze when a USB flash drive or wireless adapter, camera card or DVD is inserted. There is no keyboard input, mouse pointer is on-screen but dead. Reboot needed. No error message. Event Viewer lists "unexpected shutdown." There were incidents of this in W7 as well (same hardware). BIOS setting?

Dell :: Installing Windows 8 Using Recovery Media - Error 0x4001100200001005

Setup Installation :: Error 0xc0000021a - Want To Reset But Product Key Invalid

Aug 17, 2014

I' am currently using a custom made laptop which I had to repair due to an hardware failure. After I got the PC back I reinstalled Windows but the product key I had wasn't working properly any more. Knowing that after an hardware change this is not an uncommon problem, I just used the option "Activate by phone" and everything went fine.

Unfortunately the last day I got the blue screen with the error 0xc0000021a, which I know is caused by misconfigured system files in the computer. Moreover this error is really similar to the error I got prior the hardware failure (0xc00000e). So I figured that maybe the Windows 8 installation I have (I purchased before Windows 8.1) has some problems, and maybe I can solve them by reinstalling directly Windows 8.1, instead of reinstalling Windows 8 and then upgrading it from the store.

The problem is that when I launch the Windows 8.1 set-up program to create a media for recovery, when asked for the product key mine doesn't work. I think this has something to do with the hardware change and with the fact that I used the "activate by phone" option, but my Windows version is legit and I paid for it, and therefore I want to be able to reset my computer if I need to (like now).

Win 8.1 Recovery Error - Some Media Files Are Missing

Dec 23, 2013

I'm trying to do a complete recovery of my Windows 8.1 laptop (The "Remove everything and reinstall Windows" option). A few seconds after I try to initiate the recovery, I am stopped by a message that says:

"Some Media Files are Missing. Your Windows installation or recovery media will provide these files"

After this message appears I am prompted to cancel the restoration. How can I bypass this message to continue with the recovery? My laptop is 4 years old and is ready for a recovery.

My laptop was purchased running Windows 7 64bit, from which I upgraded to Win 8 64bit Pro through a free download from my school. I have my Windows 8 installation key, but not the download files. I upgraded to 8.1 through the Windows Store free download.

Error / Insert Media Some Files Are Missing?

Jul 14, 2014

I have an error when trying to restart my computer to factory settings. I am running on windows 8.1. It used to say "Could not find recovery environment" but after looking on forums for the day I got it to say the new error (Which I think is better than the old one). So when I go to settings it then change PC settings, than update and recovery, than recovery than remove everything and re install windows, It gives the error "Insert media, some files are missing. Insert recovery disk or drive" I want to restart it because my computer had randomly switched to a temporary profile, than i fixed it but the "temporary" profile was the new one I had to use and there are many messed up things happening with it. I do not have any disk or my windows activation code. Also, I have used a partition manager before to change the size of one of my partitions (The windows one) ...

Hardware Drivers :: DVD Drive Not Refreshing When New Disk Inserted?

Apr 27, 2014

My mother-in-law has purchased a HP laptop with windows 8 which has since updated to 8.1 (and we think update 1 - there is nothing to say update 1 on it, but it does have a power icon on the tiles screen).

When a DVD (data or film) is inserted, the drive spins up - but not to full speed - and the icon in My Computer doesn't change to show the drive is no longer empty (or changed from a previous disc).

At one point, after installing a Canon printer, I switched out the install DVD for a film. As per usual, the icon did not update. I refreshed with [F5] but nothing changed. When I double clicked the drive icon, it opened up but showed the files from the install DVD and not the Film that was in the drive.

It even went as far as to open up on of the smaller files off the DVD that was no longer in the drive. As though it had cached it for some reason. It was only when I retried to run the setup executable did it poll the drive and find out there was a new disc in there and finally allowed us to watch the Film.

The film in this case was Life of Pi - we also tried Skyfall - both of which are off-the-shelf commercial DVD's and not home-brew DVD films.

Is there any setting that can be changed? I have changed the autoplay settings to ask everytime for everything but that had no effect.

Getting Check Media Error - No Boot Device Found?

Jul 12, 2014

I have a laptop Dell Inspiron 15R, which I bought 5 months ago from Best Buy. Yesterday I shut down the computer normally, but when I try to restarted, after Dell logo appeared, on a black screen appeared the message: "Check media..". After a few seconds, on a black screen a new message was shown: "No boot device found. Press any key to reboot the machine".

I've looked on the internet and I saw it's a common error and everybody solved it with "Windows Boot Manager" as a first choice in UEFI Boot List Option. My problem is that I don't have this option. I have only two options:

1. UEFI Onboard LAN IPv4

2. UEFI Onboard LAN IPv6

I press F9 to setup the defaults, I changed to Legacy mode, but no results.

My BIOS Version is AO( or 0 )7

Network / Sharing :: Streaming Media Content To Xbox 360 Via Windows Media Player

Mar 2, 2012

So for some background I basically stream music, pictures and video content from my computer to an Xbox 360 in the lounge room for my family to enjoy. This has worked for quite a long time with Windows 7.

I installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview today and got settled in with it and indexed my libraries with Windows Media player so this could resume. But to my dismay this doesn't seem to work in Windows 8.

I have each folder and hard drive shared on windows for network use, I have a little experience from LANs in this area. I have enabled all streaming options in WMP that I know of and the entirety of my library has been fully indexed. This is WMP 12 and everything I possibly know of is up to date.

I haven't got the Homegroup feature active as I never had to use this before.

The only other thing I have noticed that has changed is this. A little green icon that in windows 7 would appear on top of the xboxs, I'm assuming this means something.

On the Xbox end it used to display the Libraries such as 'Recorded TV', 'Music', 'TV Shows', 'Movies' and other things but now when I try to access video content it gives me a folder called 'Videos' which contains nothing.

Network / Sharing :: WiFi Doesn't Have Valid IP Configuration On Windows 8

Jun 5, 2013

Randomly, my wifi disconnects many times a day (Limitted conectivity or ), sometimes every 5 minutes. I solve the problem temporarly by:

1.)Running the Troubleshoot of the wifi connection, and it resets the adapter automatically( and at the end of the troubleshotting it says: "WiFi doesnt Have a valid IP configuration, or sometimes The default gateway is not available")
2.)Sometimes the Troubleshooter cant reset the adapter, and I have to do it manually.

By resetting the adapter, the problem is solved only temporarily, because I have to do that mayby 20 times a day, sometimes more, sometimes less.

I use Windows 8 on Asus K55 VJ , Intel Centrino 2230 adapter with up to date driver.

Network / Sharing :: Windows 8 Desktop - WiFi Does Not Have Valid IP Configuration

Sep 16, 2013

Just got a brand-new desktop. Unfortunately, I will not be able to use an ethernet cable BUT I have a USB network adapter. I know for sure that it works (I've used it on my laptop). The network adapter seems to have installed properly; I am able to pull up "Available Networks". However, when I try to connect to my home Wi-Fi and put in my password, it always says "connecting to the network is taking longer than usual" and then never connects. Multiple other devices in the house (smartphones, laptops, desktops) are all connecting to our network with no problems.

I've tried all of the Windows troubleshooters and wizards --- didn't work.

I've tried changing the wireless network channel from 6 to 8 --- didn't work.

I've tried netsh winsock reset catalog and netsh int ip reset reset.log hit in the command prompt --- didn't work.

It now shows that it has "limited" connection...but I cannot pull anything up in the browser. What the troubleshooter is telling me now is: "Wi-Fi does not have a valid IP configuration".

Network / Sharing :: Ethernet Does Not Have Valid IP Config

My mother connects with her Nook tablet, my father with his laptop, and sometimes my phone and no problems. Until the other day when I randomly went to go on my computer I had no internet connection so I

1) Reset modem and router like I always do, still nothing.

2) Tried windows trouble shooting and gave me this message """"Ethernet" does not have a valid IP config".

3) I unplugged my Ethernet cable from my modem to the router and directly connected it from modem to computer and everything works fine and doesn't randomly lag out like before.

PC Workstation - Ethernet Doesn't Have Valid IP Configuration?

Feb 4, 2014

I have a brand new PC workstation.

Everything was fine, until recently, when I turn on my PC, I don't get an immediate internet connection. This is happening nearly everytime now with some frequency.

I reset the router/modem and everything is fine after that, so all is good.

But it is still frustrating. I get, "Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration".

Following are screenshots of my 'ipconfig' and 'Network Connection Status' before (unsuccessful) and after (successful) internet access:

You will see from the above that there is certainly something different with the data...

Incidentally, I did find a nice youtube 'tutorial' in relation to this subject title about manually configurating the settings:

I haven't tried this yet and that is probably down to the fact that I can't find my alternate DNS server setting (the very last box to fill in - watch the video and you will know what I mean) ???
