View 1 Replies View RelatedI see the write-up on how to make a password reset disk on a USB flash memory stick. But is there a way to make a password reset disk on a CD?
WHAT I DID:
1. Inserted a blank CD in the optical drive.
2. Opened control panel and clicked "User Accounts". But in the left panel there is no option "Create a password reset disk". All I see are:
Control Panel HomeManage your credentialsManage your file encryption certificatesConfigure advanced user profile propertiesChange my environment variables.
Do I HAVE TO insert a USB stick to see the password reset option? (I don't have a spare USB stick to test with)
Running Win 8.0 on a Dell Studio 1537 laptop.
Win 8.1 Pro x64. All of a sudden SyncBack Pro is asking me for a Windows password when I go to change the backup schedule. I thought I knew it, but it and all the variations I can think of have failed and I can't find the paper I wrote it down on at the moment. I thought I was in a local/admin account as I was in Win 8, but UA shows this as a Admin account, PW protected. That's probably why there is no "Create a Password Reset Disk" option showing on the left or anywhere on my User Accounts page (vs. Brink's tutorial). See screenshot.

Can make the password visible, it is correct. Running no version of webroot. Restore the computer to a time when the password worked, it never has even though it is correct for signing into my account on the micro website. Changed my password and still no success.
I had a new Windows 8.1 Pro system installed. Was able to logon to it with no problem. The computer name was OWNER. Changed it to what my previous computer was named. Now during startup the Admin logon gives the following message:
The user name or password is incorrect. Try again.
When I click on 'OK' I'm presented with a signon screen with Admin as the user name. No password that I enter works. When I lookup the signon accounts Admin is NOT one of them.
Listed the user accounts and found the following item for Admin:

I have my Windows 8.1 PC's password policy set so that a password is not required when waking from sleep/shutdown. I used to be able to wake the PC from sleep and not put in a password, and I could turn the PC on after a shutdown without having to put in a password either. Since last week, though, when I turn my PC on, it will boot to the Windows loading screen and after loading for a bit, it will jump into the login screen and immediately report a login error that the username or password is incorrect. This happens before I even get a chance to type a username or password. The fact that I have to type in the username and password is strange because I have the PC set to bypass that option.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently found a Windows Easy Transfer file on a USB Stick. It was created by Christmas time, it is before the computer (Hard Drive) broke. So, I luckily found this on USB Stick in one of my drawers from last Christmas.
Now I am currently have a new tower PC which it has Windows 8.1 in it and it works fine. Just that my old tower has been upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 (trial) for a while from October 2013.
But, I can't remember what the password was - so I am struggling to know what the password was. I am just worried that I cannot reset the password on the Windows Easy Transfer, it has all of my lovely photos and videos and also my work documents. The thing is that I cannot get access to the old PC, because it is gone. But, I have got my stuff in my Windows Easy Transfer file - just that I can't remember the password.
Is there a way to get to my password out by doing something?

I set up the user account using my Microsoft email account. I would like to use a different password on my desktop vs the email password. My email password since it is accessible via web is strong 16 characters long, random characters password and changed often. I would like to change the desktop password to something I can remember, still strong, but I don't change it as often since you have to get physical access to my desktop.
I assumed once I linked to the Microsoft account I could change the password on the machine without it changing my email password.
Is this not possible? I would prefer not to have to lower the security of my email account just to accommodate Windows 8. Never a problem before as my email clients stored the password.
I like to discuss a problem of mine with my Laptop which is pre loaded with Windows 8 pro 64 bit OS.Unfortunately I forgot the password of my login id as i have created while i first started the Laptop. Now I want to unlock that. I tried a lot but failed to do so. I have not created any password reset USB for that.
my Laptop is a Toshiba satellite C855 series.
I bought a new Inspiron with Win 8 a couple days ago. I was setting it up today and put in a my user name and password. I tried connecting to a network share and it wasn't working. I realized that I had my Windows user name spelled wrong. I went and changed the name then tried again and it still wouldn't work. I rebooted to see if it would work. When I got to the login screen the corrected name was there but it would not accept my password. I thought maybe I'd not entered the password I thought I did and tried several variations and could not get it to work.
I did not create a password recovery disk. I did not burn the Dell system recovery disks. I literally set up Windows for the first time, tried connecting to network shares, rebooted and now cannot get into the computer. I am stumped. I cannot seem to find the way to get to the Windows recovery after rebooting. I read about how I could get to safe mode from there but I can't find it. I reboot, hit shift+F8 and can get into some Dell hardware diagnostics utility and if I exit I can hit F12 and get some boot options none of which seem to do me any good.
I have no problem with reinstalling Windows but I don't have a recovery disk. I'm about this close to returning it to the store. What do I do?
So I have forgot my password for Firefox and entered my email to have them send me a reset link and it has not came and has been quiet some time. Is this usual and is there another way to change the password?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm setting up a stolen laptop tracking software and want to leave a standard/non-admin user account open for a potential thief. The software requires someone to log in and connect to the internet in order to start tracking. So if I only have my personal admin account password protected, I will be out of luck. The problem is that while logged in as a standard user I am able to access recovery options. From there I can use advance startup and proceed to reset my pc. If a thief logs in and resets my pc right away, I will have no way of tracking them. I have windows 8.1 standard and have not been able to find any way from restricting access to the recovery options.

I'm running windows 8 on a partition so I use it mostly for gaming. I have 115 GB on the partition, and when I totaled all the files in my Bootcamp drive it comes to a total of about 80 GB, 50 from games, 20 from the OS. However, I'm constantly getting error messages saying that my disk is almost full and that 105 gigabytes have been used. I've tried CCleaner and disk cleanup but nothing big is found. So why would it be using space greater than what can be seen in the disk when using explorer and is there any way to fix this error (if it is one)?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI followed the steps here: Password Protection on Wakeup - Enable or Disable in Windows 8
It works, but after a reboot and stand-by after a certain amount of time, the option resets itself. This started 1 month or 2 ago.
Also, i notice that in one place it says password wake up is on and another place says it is off.
I just did a clean install of 8.1. The first install didn't ask me to fill a password. It just flashed the sign in with my picture and went into windows destop. With the reinstall I must have did something different when setting it up. Now, Theres a splash screen with some sort of windows default, with the time in big letters on the bottom left and a small icon I have to click on. Then it brings me to that screen with my picture, with my hotmail email address, and now I have to type in my hotmail password, then it goes into windows desktop. I do not want to do this. I want to turn on the computer come back a minute later, and theres my desktop. I found this website [URL] .... and tried the steps there but It seems there really isn't an answer for me and I'm a little gun-shy in doing whats in that page to allow me to log on to desktop without a pass word.
I really don't want to set up another user account and I don't want to be nagged by a new password and of course the famous you don't have administrator access in the future. I just want to turn on the computer wait a minute see my picture flash at me and then automatically to the desktop.
all of a sudden I am having to put a password in to open up windows 8 why this has happened and can I open up windows 8 without having to enter a password
View 7 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to reset a microsoft account?Several times I have formatted and reinstalled and each time when it asks whether I want to use the settings already assigned to my profile or not...and selecting No...it still seems to be bring things over like the wallpaper etc.
So to be clear, fresh install....during final stages, it asks to create a login or sign in using a microsoft account which is what I do. When I do this, it asks whether I want to use the settings already on the profile...I say no I want to set it up as a new PC and yet still wallpaper comes back (Sony vaio wallpaper)
I'm just thinking if the wallpaper comes back..what else does? So I want to know whether there is a way (apart from closing the account and recreating it) to reset the profile so nothing is attached to it.
I am the only user of my machine and do not need this function and do not need the password nor my email to show
View 1 Replies View RelatedYesterday I did a few things on laptop, nothing special. Shut down the laptop, girlfriend tried to log in a few hours later and upon entering her password she gets kicked back out to the login screen.
Booted mini windows xp from hirensbootcd, checked registery and nothing fancy there in the winlogon strings.
I did manage to enable the guest account and add an extra administrator account. The guest account works (no taskbar tho) but everything else seemed to work. The freshly made admin account did not work, same story as my girlfriends account, enter password > back to login screen.
