I am trying to create recovery discs from "Dell backup and Recovery application" however when i was asked to insert the second DVD,the optical drive keeps rejecting the DVD. The application will not continue to burn the second DVD and appears to be frozen. I tried with different brands/makers of DVD and also -/+ R. Unfortunately .Issue remains. I was able to find this article 593906 Published on 2013-01-21 ( relative link [URL]... ).
Although i have done the updates ,i am still not able to create recovery discs !! Current Issue: after inserting the 3rd Disc application gives the following message "Dbr.exe -No disc found" and stays there and rejects the DVD. I spoke with Dell's Greek Support team. I was told that warranty does not cover sw support even if my unit is less than a week old. Furthermore i was informed that although "Dell backup and recovery" application says DELL is not actually a Dell product thus they can't support it. They suggested my to use windows 7 file recovery instead (which needs at least 8 DVDs !).
(Model : inspiron 15 3521) .

I decided that I should, create a System Recovery DVD for my new computer. However when I try and do it I only get the option to create a recovery USB Drive.
I did that but I'd still like to make a DVD disk.
Ps. I see that my system recovery USB drive has an empty folder called Sources. If I was to place a backup of my C: drive in that folder would it be automatically accessible and usable from the DVD drive?
Hmmm, I can't seem to find a way to use Windows to create a backup of my C: drive either.

As my old hd has crashed how can I recover over there. Is there any system that dell provide me with necessary operating system so that atleast I can use my system.

I have an HP Envy with a recovery partition. I did indeed create a dedicated USB drive that copied the recovery partition from the partition on the hard drive that shipped with the unit.
I wanted to create a restore registry type of system repair disk as you could in Windows 7. However even though I read that the option should appear in the Recovery Options that says: Create a Systems Repair Disk with a CD or DVD (see System Repair Disc - Create in Windows 8), that option never appears.
While I do have Acronis as a backup I would like a quick bootable CD/DVD that offers a registry restore option. But perhaps that is what the recovery partition is for and when the time comes it will offer me that option, not sure (????).
Or may be there is a separate .iso I can downlaod and burn like I did for Win 7 32 bit and 64 bit.

Brand new laptop. HP. 17e UEFI +GPT etc. Upgraded to 8.1 from 8, first thing. Then clicked on the MS, create recovery. (in blind hope of a clean 8.1 restore). Inserted (32gb stick) (later found out is illegal windows 8 version, that is not removable.) SD-extreme, 32gb. list on toms HW, as winner of all, (and is useless for this app).
So I pull out my very old SD cruiser glide, 32gb (old , slow and not win 8 cert (a good thing). Yes all 32gb extremes are mapped as HDD not removable media and is doomed. (known on all forums) but same error.
The cruiser shows up i device manager under removable media....btw i want to find out why the missing files error. I have a HDD and SSD, with latter mirrored. both the orig, HDD fails and SSD fails. same way. I parked the HDD , and run only SSD. but both fail... (my guess is , upgrades 8.0 to windows 8.1 is cause).
now the screen,
attached
How can i find the log of these errors, it's not in event viewer.. oddly. sfc/ scannow works. as does chkdsk, and restore (create) works,. and system is Fast a lightning. All HP apps works, cept there version of create disk for same reasons.
My HP create recovery now works on the GLIDE. (old very old 32gb stick i had laying about). So now I am thinking HP? blocks the MS create so you will use theirs? But I'd lilke to know this, what files are missing....

I had some problems with Ubuntu, and wanted to recover my Windows 8 MBR, so that I can boot back into it, and not a corrupted version of Grub2. Anyway, I burned an iso for the Windows 8 recovery disk, and the disk is fine since it works on another computer. However, it doesn't work on the computer I want to use it on. The recovery disk says
Code: Loading files...
And completes a loading process. Then, blue squares go along the top of the screen. However, it suddenly turns off my computer in the middle of the process. I've tried this multiple times with the same result.

I am trying to get a handle on how these 2 functions are related. I assume the Recovery disk would be needed if you can't boot to the computer (assume the OS needs to be present) and does the Recovery disk replace the boot files that may be damaged and then after you get booted up I assume the System Image (is that is referred to as a "backup")?? would be ran to get the computer back to the working order when the Image was taken. Assume that the Recovery disk would take place of the OS installation disk if it were not available and you couldn't just reinstall the OS and so you could load the Image.

After doing some digging around I found the system image backup under windows 7 file recovery. Then I go to create system image and everything goes fine and then I get an error message after about half way through the back up . Error message will say something like not enough space on drive to create image and I am doing this on a 2TB external hard drive . I did notice one time I accidentally created 500 MB of unallocated space on this drive but I was getting this this error message before I did that and I am not even sure how I created it. I have another PC with windows 7 and don't have a problem with the scheduled image and data backups being performed weekly. Had this problem with windows 8? Also how do eliminate the 500 MB of unallocated space on my 2 TB External HD which is not really a problem but should not be there . I have my files backed up on this HD although I don't use windows data back up utility which I prefer Sync Back to perform instead .

I have bought a new PC/Server to be used as a media server, I have 2 x 2TB disks installed which I believe I have mirrored.
See below screenshot.
From the reading and research I have done I don't believe if one disk was to fail the other one would work, I think I may need to mirror the EFI system Partition and Recovery Partition of which I'm not too sure how to do this?

I've got this Dell tablet and it's touch screen has gone kaput. It works sometimes, it doesn't most of the times. It has gotten worse in the last few days. It only used to do that when resuming from Standby previously.
There is nothing I can do about it from my end. I have contacts Dell support and it seems they will take it back for repairs.
In the meantime, my recovery partition seems to be not working either. I first wanted to factory reset it to see if it is a software issue. (Easier to RMA as well) Dell has their own recovery software called Dell Backup and Recovery and it doesn't work. It would reboot back to Windows 8's recovery environment (F8) and wait there. I have used Recovery once and maybe it screwed up everything. I don't know.
I tried Windows Refresh and Recovery features and they don't work either. Refresh asks me to insert the media .
Recovery tells me that i cannot find a recovery image in my drive.
I have used Refresh many times when the touch screen problem originally appeared, and then it didn't ask for the install media. Seems that it was using the recovery image that was originally in the drive.
Now the recovery image is either missing or inaccessible by any sort of recovery. I tried creating a Recovery media using the Dell Backup and Recovery software and it also stops saying that an error has occurred. How informative.
This is the current state of Disk Management screen. Why are there so many partitions? The right click menu only pops up for C: partition. It's empty for other partitions.
BTW, I have Windows 8.1 Preview installed as well. I have used Refresh few times after that as well. I don't think it has anything to do with the issue. But it would be great if I can reset it back to factory image before sending for RMA.

I am trying to create a system image backup and I keep getting this error message
[COLOR=#FF0000]'Threre is not enough disk space to create the volum shadow copy on storage location. Make sure that for all volume to be backup up, the minimum disk space required for shadow copy creation is available. this applies to both the backup storage destination and volume included in the backup. Minimum requirement for Volumes less than 500 megabytes, the minimum is 50 megabyte of free space. for voulimes more than 500 megabytes, the minimum is 320 megabytes of free space. Recommended at least 1 gigabytes free of disk space on each volumes if volumes size is more than 1 gigabytes (0x80780119)"
I am backing it up to a external HDD with over a tb of free space but I understand its not letting me perform the backup because the hidden 100mb hidden system partition is full...if i create a larger partition how can I copy that system partition to it? if that is possible....

A Dell technician replaced a new motherboard. Then, Windows 8 was restored using a provided Windows 8 recovery media DVD. Now, windows 8 runs super.
What I now found was that the original recovery partitions were disappeared. in the main hard drive.
I could not create a recovery drive (in flash drive) without recovery partitions in hard drive.
Is there a way to re-create the original recovery partitions ? If so, how?

so one of my computers entered a boot loop and I'm pretty sure the only way to fix it is using a recovery drive. Only problem is the only other windows 8 PC in the house doesnt let me create it. I go through the steps outlined in this thread: Recovery Drive - Create with USB Flash Drive in Windows 8 but i get stuck on step 6. When I insert a USB drive the create recovery drive setup doesnt seem to recognize it. It just refreshes (which shows that it detects a usb being inserted) but nothing shows up. Oddly enough, I can access the usb drive through my computer and copying/moving etc files still works. How can I make it so it appears?

I just bought Asus UX31A-R4005H (with Windows 8). Unfortunately Asus doesn't provide any application to restore Windows 8 back to factory conditions. So i need to recovery whole hard drive partitions back to factory settings.
Firstly i need to create a set of OEM factory recovery discs/usb flash.
1. I'm planning to create a system recovery drive (usb flash) with Windows 8 but i wonder if this usb flash will recover whole hdd back to factory conditions? If yes is it enough to use Windows 8 "create a recovery drive" option?
2. How could i create an original OEM factory recovery usb flash with 3rd party application?

I recently picked up an Asus laptop, a SDD to replace the the laptop's HDD, and a HDD caddy to hold the HDD in place of the CD/DVD drive. After a fresh Win 8.1 install on the SDD, I made system images of both the SDD and the HDD with the Win 8 OEM install (both stored on external drive). I also created a USB recovery drive and then formatted the HDD.
Fast forward a few weeks... It's last Friday. I'm about to leave for a business trip. I boot up my laptop and a screen comes up telling me to "reboot and select proper boot device". I pull the SDD out, hook it up to my desktop, and see that the drive shows up, but it's blank. A little googling turned up a few reviews from other people with the same issue. On rare occasion, it will wipe itself. Using the USB recovery drive and the Win 8.1 system image, I got things up and running again.
Now for my question, instead of constantly carrying around the 2 USB drives holding the recovery and system image, can I create a recovery partition on my HDD that I can boot too if my SDD wipes again? (Could I copy or clone my Recovery USB to a partition on my HDD?) Then I could just keep the SSD system image on the HDD in case I need to restore it, right?
Disk 0: SDD disk that wiped itself
Disk 1: HDD that I'd like to have a recovery partition and system image on
I also have: Win 8 OEM system imageWin 8.1 system imageRecovery USB drive (8.1)Win 8.1 USB Install drive

I recently bought a Dell Windows 8 desktop. I upgraded the desktop to Windows 8.1. I want to create a recovery drive using a DVD rather than a flash drive. (I understand Microsoft wants you to create recovery onto a flash drive rather than a DVD. Not sure why.)
I found several places on the net which discuss just how create recover onto a DVD. They suggest that I do a search on "Windows 7 file" and this will display an option to click on "Windows 7 File Recovery" ... and that will lead me through the steps to create my recovery onto a DVD.
Problem is "Windows 7 File" is not found. How do I get this onto my Windows 8.1 system?

I finally broke down and bought a modern laptop Asus A55A (K55A) and installed Ubuntu 12.04 in a dual boot situation. With the nefarious secureboot and other such nonsense Windows 8 install met with an untimely demise. However, I have the files left on the recovery partition (copied to my 16gb usb) and need to make an install disk. My only issue is that I can't find a way to do it in Ubuntu as all the tutorials I find assume that Windows is installed. Is there a way to make a bootable Windows 8 install usb or iso from the files on the recovery partition-without using Windows to make it? I would love to re-install Windows 8 and then setup a stale dual boot.
