Dell :: Backup And Recovery Unable To Create Recovery DVD

Feb 18, 2013

I am trying to create recovery discs from "Dell backup and Recovery application" however when i was asked to insert the second DVD,the optical drive keeps rejecting the DVD. The application will not continue to burn the second DVD and appears to be frozen. I tried with different brands/makers of DVD and also -/+ R. Unfortunately .Issue remains. I was able to find this article   593906  Published on 2013-01-21  ( relative link [URL]...   ).

Although i have done the updates ,i am still not able to create recovery discs !!   Current Issue:  after inserting the  3rd Disc application gives the following message "Dbr.exe -No disc found" and stays there and rejects the DVD.  I spoke with Dell's Greek Support team. I was told that warranty does not cover sw support even if my unit is less than a week old. Furthermore i was informed that although "Dell backup and recovery" application says DELL is not actually a Dell product thus they can't support it. They suggested my to use windows 7 file recovery instead (which needs at least 8 DVDs !).

(Model  : inspiron 15  3521)  .

Dell :: XPS 12 Duo - Factory Reinstall / No Recovery Media

Aug 16, 2014

So i have a 12 duo, and it has been acting slow lately and i figured it is time to bring it back to its younger days. I tried doing the reset within windows 8, but it asked for installation/recovery media, which i don't have. And i know what you're thinking, just use the recovery partition. No can do... it is gone. I do not remember getting rid of it but anyways, its not an option. I tried creating a recovery usb  via this link but my key did not work for retail versions. What can I do?

Dell :: Windows 8 Will Not Let To Create System Image Backup

Mar 30, 2013

After doing some digging around I found the system image backup  under windows 7 file recovery. Then I go to create system image and everything goes fine and then I get an error message after about half way through the back up  . Error message will say something like not enough space on drive to create  image and I am doing this on a 2TB external hard drive . I did notice one time I accidentally created 500 MB of unallocated space on this drive but I was getting this  this error message  before I did that and I am not even sure how I created it. I have another PC with windows 7 and don't have a problem with the scheduled image and data backups being performed weekly. Had this problem with windows 8? Also how do eliminate the 500 MB of unallocated space on my 2 TB External  HD which is not really a problem but should not be there . I have my files backed up on this HD although I don't use windows data back up utility which I prefer Sync Back to perform instead .

Dell :: Backup Writes 3 DVDs But Only Reads 1 And Recovery Doesn't Work

Jan 28, 2014

I created DVD and USB backups to my new Windows 8 Inspiron laptop; I needed to recover the next day, and the Hard Disk recovery partition and the USB were reported as corrupt! On a brand new system with a brand new USB stick!

On attempting to recover with the DVDs, after using the first one the Dell recovery program said 100% complete, so didn't even read the next 2. The recovery showed a "restart" button, and of course nothing happened!

How do I get recovery media for Windows 8?

Dell :: Inspiron 7520 - Windows 8 Backup And Recovery Manager Doesn't Work

Apr 3, 2013

I have an Inspiron 7520 and uninstalled and reinstalled the new version of Dell Backup and Recovery Manager -- upgraded to premium to make sure that I would have full ability to use the program. Note: the old version didn't work at all -- hung up on backup, etc. I have rebooted.

When I try and open the Manager interface, I can't. All I get is the clock logo with the hand spinning. I cannot set the destination. I cannot select what I want to back up. I've tried this several times and just get the spinning clock which I end up ending through Task Manager.

I have tried opening the Manager from the installed link on desktop, from my list of programs, from the Start menu, and from the tray icon. Nothing works.

I have a the Dell 15R SE 7520 which came preloaded with windows 8 . Recently I upgraded to windows 8.1 . My questions are -

1. What should I create - a rescue disk or a recovery disk ?
2. If I create a recovery disk, will it recover my windows 8.1(not windows 8) in case my OS gets corrupted .
3. I also couldn't find the product key for my OS. So , If someday I have to repair my laptop using my recovery disk ,it will not stay genuine?

Maintenance :: How To Create Image Backup And Restoration

Jul 21, 2013

I am new in Windows 8, Secure Boot, UEFI bios, etc.

I have a Windows 8 Single Language (SL) based system (Notebook Acer), that uses Secure Boot in UEFI Bios and has Windows Product Key recorded at BIOS by factory.

I have a 500GB HDD partitioned in drives C: (228GB), E: (40GB), F: (40GB), G: (78GB) and H: (64GB) and Windows is installed on C: partition.

I installed and configured all programs that I use and now I want to do an image to be used in cases of HDD damage, Windows crash or other cases that I need install OS and apps again. I want to earn time with this and don't have to install the apps one by one.

What is the best option (method) to do backup and restoration of the system? How I use the Boot DVD generated by the backup feature (Windows 7 File Recovery)? Can I do image only of partition C: or I need to include all other partitions?Do I need change the BIOS UEFI to LEGACY BIOS to boot with Windows Boot DVD generated?Do I need to format the C: partition before restore the image? What kind of format I need to use? NTFS? FAT32? GPT?

I have a lot of friends that are using Windows 8 now and all of them have the same doubts that I have.

Is it possible to create a new step-by-step tutorial of Backup and Restore process in Windows 8?

Maintenance :: Use One External HDD For Backup And Recovery?

Mar 14, 2013

New to Windows 8 - setting up a couple computers .Can I use one external HDD for the backup as well as for the recovery? I mean, it seems when I set up the first one a week ago, there was an option in the recovery section of control panel to create something for disaster recovery. (Create a recovery drive) I think it said everything on the drive would be erased when it was created. Now that I've created it on a 250GB HDD, I am wondering if I can do my backups on there as well? Or is this recovery drive supposed to be a dedicated flash drive or something like that?

The two 3rd party utilities I've tried only backup if you are logged on and only backup each user individually, so there are 5 different tasks!

I've jumped straight from XP where I could backup ALL in one go. I s'pose there are "tighter" file restrictions with 8

Setup Installation :: How Does GPT Table Fit Into Backup / Recovery Scheme

Mar 19, 2013

I will be receiving a new laptop shortly, namely the Yoga 13, whose SSD is partitioned into no less than 8 partitions from the factory. I suppose the first thing I'd like to do is backup the entire drive with all its original partitions before I start messing with it. I've heard good things about the free version of Paragon, so I think I will use that with their USB boot key. Questions:

1. Would I indeed be able to restore the factory SSD *exactly* the way it was prior to backing up the entire disk, partitions and all, from an external USB drive?

2. How is a backup/restore related to the GPT table of the GPT disk? In other words, if I plan to wipe the disk and re-install Windows 8 from media, doesn't this Windows 8 install write to the GPT table? And if so, would a restore of the factory disk also restore that GPT table?

Dell :: Inspiron 660s Desktop Running Win 8 - How To Create Copy Of Factory Image

Mar 10, 2013

I have a Dell Inspiron 660s desktop running Win 8.  How large of a USB Flash Drive do I need to create a copy of the factory image?  How large of a USB Flash Drive do I need to create a copy of the pre-installed applications, drivers and utilities?  The only apps I have are the standard ones that come with the 660s running Win 8.  Using Dell Backup & Recovery (Pro or Premium), I created a system backup on an external hard drive.   This resulted in my external hard drive being partitioned into DBR_Master (F), which used 31.5 GB of the 1TB hard drive; and, DBR_Boot (G), using 23.6 MB.  What is DBR_Master (F) all about?  What is DBR_Boot (G) all about?  In the event of an OS crash, will I be able to re-boot from the external hard drive?  How often is it recommended to do a full system backup?

Since a system backup does not backup applications like MS-Office, is the purpose of periodic backups to capture future fixes & revisions to the OS? Since there is still a lot of unused space on the external hard drive, is it ok to save my daily data backups to the external hard drive?  I tried to save data backups using File History to the DBR_Master (F) drive but it would not let me. I created a new folder in DBR_Master (F) but that didn't work.  I receive a message that the destination was not connected.  Where should I save daily data backups?  Last question - does it matter whether I use File History or Dell Backup and Recovery to do daily data backups? Are there any advantages or disadvantages to using one over the other -- they seem to do the same thing?

Maintenance :: Dell XPS 8300 - Windows 8 System Image Backup

Mar 29, 2013

My system is dell xps 8300. I have upgraded from windows 7 ultimate(64bit) to windows 8 pro 64 bit. My system has

1) dell oem partition (no drive ketter 39MB),
2) recovery partition (ntfs no drive letter) 13.25 GB free 2.94 Gb,
3) C drive windows system partition 100Gb free 31,24 GB rest of the two partitions are 175 Gb each (logical drives).

Total my hard disk capacity is 500GB.

What is the difference of taking backup and which is better for recovering the system to original state just before the backup.

1) System image backup(recovery partition & windows system partition) using windows 8 system backup..ie using
windows 7 file recovery menu under control panel.
2) Creating custom recovery image for refresh.(command: recimage -CreateImage)

I have done both and my backup location is external hard drive of 2TB capacity. I made system recovery disk(dvd) from the windows 7 file recovery menu.

The custom recovery image wim file is of size 22.GB

The recovery partition backup(vhdx) is of 9GB and the windows system partition backup is of 43GB.

I have also used macurium reflect pro to take backup of my recovery and windows partition using macurium rescue cd.

I am backing it up to a external HDD with over a tb of free space but I understand its not letting me perform the backup because the hidden 100mb hidden system partition is full...if i create a larger partition how can I copy that system partition to it? if that is possible....
