Feb 13, 2014I was using win 8 which was original came with notebook , then I installed Windows 8.1 (not upgrade from Store , just from .iso packet ). Because of some errors I re-installed another Windows 8 . iso and now I can't download Recovery from SW Update .It says recovery partition doesn't exist.I was able to use that before. How can I re-create my recovery partition again?

Jul 1, 2013I finally broke down and bought a modern laptop Asus A55A (K55A) and installed Ubuntu 12.04 in a dual boot situation. With the nefarious secureboot and other such nonsense Windows 8 install met with an untimely demise. However, I have the files left on the recovery partition (copied to my 16gb usb) and need to make an install disk. My only issue is that I can't find a way to do it in Ubuntu as all the tutorials I find assume that Windows is installed. Is there a way to make a bootable Windows 8 install usb or iso from the files on the recovery partition-without using Windows to make it? I would love to re-install Windows 8 and then setup a stale dual boot.

What I now found was that the original recovery partitions were disappeared. in the main hard drive.
I could not create a recovery drive (in flash drive) without recovery partitions in hard drive.

Jun 29, 2014I recently picked up an Asus laptop, a SDD to replace the the laptop's HDD, and a HDD caddy to hold the HDD in place of the CD/DVD drive. After a fresh Win 8.1 install on the SDD, I made system images of both the SDD and the HDD with the Win 8 OEM install (both stored on external drive). I also created a USB recovery drive and then formatted the HDD.
Fast forward a few weeks... It's last Friday. I'm about to leave for a business trip. I boot up my laptop and a screen comes up telling me to "reboot and select proper boot device". I pull the SDD out, hook it up to my desktop, and see that the drive shows up, but it's blank. A little googling turned up a few reviews from other people with the same issue. On rare occasion, it will wipe itself. Using the USB recovery drive and the Win 8.1 system image, I got things up and running again.
Now for my question, instead of constantly carrying around the 2 USB drives holding the recovery and system image, can I create a recovery partition on my HDD that I can boot too if my SDD wipes again? (Could I copy or clone my Recovery USB to a partition on my HDD?) Then I could just keep the SSD system image on the HDD in case I need to restore it, right?

Feb 18, 2013I am trying to create recovery discs from "Dell backup and Recovery application" however when i was asked to insert the second DVD,the optical drive keeps rejecting the DVD. The application will not continue to burn the second DVD and appears to be frozen. I tried with different brands/makers of DVD and also -/+ R. Unfortunately .Issue remains. I was able to find this article 593906 Published on 2013-01-21 ( relative link [URL]... ).
Although i have done the updates ,i am still not able to create recovery discs !! Current Issue: after inserting the 3rd Disc application gives the following message "Dbr.exe -No disc found" and stays there and rejects the DVD. I spoke with Dell's Greek Support team. I was told that warranty does not cover sw support even if my unit is less than a week old. Furthermore i was informed that although "Dell backup and recovery" application says DELL is not actually a Dell product thus they can't support it. They suggested my to use windows 7 file recovery instead (which needs at least 8 DVDs !).

Jun 20, 2014If you have a recovery drive - that includes the recovery partition - made on one computer, but have a toshiba laptop with a bad drive (but the recovery partition is ok), can you replace/copy the partition on the recovery drive with the recovery partition from the bad laptop HD?
My friend's laptop would not boot, and would not factory recover, reset, or refresh. I tried to clone the hard drive before I started messing with the disc. It would not clone, but I was able to copy the recovery partition to a USB drive.
He never make recovery discs, so could not re-install, but I can borrow the recovery drive that my aunt made for her laptop.
Accounts :: Deleted User Account / Selected Keep Files Option But Folder Empty?

Started a new account, with admin privileges. Deleted old account also with admin privileges. Selected the "KEEP FILES" option. Deleted account. A folder pops up in desktop, with the computer's name. Under that folder there was another folder with old user name, and under that folder there was yet another folder also with old user name. Completely empty.

I don't have a restore point to which to retrieve my files. The c: disk says there is 600GBs of free space, previously I had only 300. All the library from my old user account have been wiped. I also checked Recycle Bin which is empty. The current account has admin privileges and is set to show hidden files. I was told that it might be under c:Users. I checked that with CMD and two folders were titled "." and "..", they don't show under file explorer.
I am running Recuva right now, but from what I understand that won't be able to restore file names and fragmented files, which are both critical. I also had an encrypted file with a none standard extension which might be ignored by Recuva.

Jan 27, 2014I recently decided to buy an ultrabook and I got me this one: LG Z360-7416, with a ssd and windows 8 (x64). As usual, it came with a lot of garbage installed which was using almost half of the ssd storage (128GB), so I decided to do a clean install. I got me a msdnaa copy of the windows 8.1 pro (x64). So, i used a pendrive to boot up on UEFI mode and selected custom install and when i get to the select partition, it shows everything fine, i select a partition and when a click on install, it returns an error saying it cannot install on my partition (i dont remember exactly what it says), and when i click on refresh, all my partitions vanishes, even going into the prompt and using diskpart doesnt show my partitions anymore. I tried to load some drivers, but it didnt work.
I was only able to install windows 7(x64), where nothing of these things happens, it installs realy easy. I tried to install windows 8 from windows 7, like an upgrade, but after it restarts, it gets stuck also. My disk is formatted on GPT, as im using EUFI on my windows 7 installation.
Tried almost a hundred times using all solutions i found online, but always the same result. And to get even more weird, some rare times it gets to the installation part, where it says the progress, but stays on 0% of unpacking files...
Its seens to be missing some especific driver to windows 8 be able to work with my ssd, but i cant get it right, but if it came installed with windows 8, it must be a way to make then work together.
Unfortunately i deleted the recovery partitions, so im stuck on windows 7.
Deleted EFI Partition Now Can't Boot
Mar 11, 2014I recently partitioned my Asus ROG G750JW into 2 main parts: One 300GB for a mackintosh, and one 6** (remaining space) for windows 8. That worked fine, until I tried to format what I thought was random partition with a size of 128MBs. I believe this to be the EFI partition, and you know what that does. I cannot boot to windows 8 or mac, and windows boot manager no longer shows up in BIOS. I have a windows 8 reinstall disk and the hackintosh install disk. When trying to refresh from the windows reinstall disk, I get an error saying that the disk is locked. What I need to know is if there is any way to restore this without erasing my hard drive. I do not have access to a windows computer (I can if I have to, but it wouldn't be ideal), but do have access to a mac. I don't have restore points, even if I did they are on the now one-huge partition, which by the way is listed as MBR format.

Mar 24, 2014After creating a UEFI bootable USB thumb drive with Rufus (using Windows 8.1 Enterprise ISO x64), for a Dell Optiplex 3010 (configured as UEFI only, no CSM, latest firmware version, Windows 8 installed), I didn't see a USB boot option, so I tried to add one manually. Unfortunately I erased the existing boot option (boot manager) by mistake. Although there were two boot options for PXE booting, the machine will not start anymore, even when there is an active WDS server on the network.
I also see Led's 2 and 3 lighting up, meaning according to the manual 'hardware ok but bios possibly damaged/corrupt'.
I understand I cannot start the machine from a bios boot disk because of GPT partitioning, and the UEFI USB boot disk I made might be corrupt (as it didn't show up as a boot option), however I don't understand why it won't boot from the PXE network card, as these boot options are still there.

Jan 25, 2014I have a server with Windows 8 on a 360gb sata drive with 4 1.5TB drives as storage, which i had joined under Windows 8 to be seen as one drive. The system had been sluggish lately so was going to replace the 360gb with a ssd which i had used b4 on my laptop, so when i had it connected and started to install.
I seen 5.8 drive and ssd 12ogb drive and a few small partitions i deleted main partition on ssd and few other small partition which i thought was on the SSD but one was related to the storage drives and they are all screwed up now and when i connect the original Windows 8 os hard drive it doesn't boot anymore.
My question is whats the best way to proceed to save all the data on the hard drives nothing was formatted on theses drives.

Dec 31, 2012I decided that I should, create a System Recovery DVD for my new computer. However when I try and do it I only get the option to create a recovery USB Drive.
I did that but I'd still like to make a DVD disk.
Ps. I see that my system recovery USB drive has an empty folder called Sources. If I was to place a backup of my C: drive in that folder would it be automatically accessible and usable from the DVD drive?
Hmmm, I can't seem to find a way to use Windows to create a backup of my C: drive either.

Nov 21, 2013I recently bought a Dell Windows 8 desktop. I upgraded the desktop to Windows 8.1. I want to create a recovery drive using a DVD rather than a flash drive. (I understand Microsoft wants you to create recovery onto a flash drive rather than a DVD. Not sure why.)
I found several places on the net which discuss just how create recover onto a DVD. They suggest that I do a search on "Windows 7 file" and this will display an option to click on "Windows 7 File Recovery" ... and that will lead me through the steps to create my recovery onto a DVD.
Problem is "Windows 7 File" is not found. How do I get this onto my Windows 8.1 system?

Jul 1, 2013I bought an Acer notebook with Windows 8 SL (Single Language) and UEFI BIOS (with Secure Boot) factory installed (Windows Key is set in Bios).
I have the habit of installing all programs and make an image of partition C: in case of having to reinstall the entire system for problems with Windows, HDD exchange or similar cases. With this gain too long and not have to reinstall all the programs one by one.
My HDD is partitioned into 4 parts: C:, E:, F: and G:.
When I enter the Windows 8 app to generate the system image appear two partitions pre-marked for backup: C: (Programs) and EFI System Partition (no drive letter). C: partition is formatted as NTFS, but the EFI is as FAT32.
My question is: when I restore this, how should I format the partition where you install the system again (C ? Format all the partition as NTFS and Backup app creates the EFI partition FAT32 by own?
How it works and how to proceed? I will boot the system by CD-ROM.
Windows Doesn't Boot After Trying To Create A Partition
Nov 13, 2013I just purchased a brand new laptop (Lenovo s400) with Windows 8 (which was promptly updated to 8.1) and since I don't like having OS and personal files on the same disk, I used Partition Master for creating a new Partition to keep my files.
After PM rebooted the system, Windows doesn't boot and shows an error coded 0xc0000225. Lenovo adds a button to access System Recovery, but again I get the same error. As far as I can remember, I've never seen a recovery partition and no disks were included (Should've created a recovery USB drive as soon as I took it out of the box).
I would like to emphasize that this hard drive wasn't formatted, just re sized.

Other suggestions seem to tell you how to make a "Repair" disc for Windows 8 with one readers comments of.....
" Windows 8 recovery Disk is used to reset your PC - it is supposed to reload the operating system and restore factory default settings. You need a USB flash drive 16GB or larger. I haven't found yet a way to create Windows 8 recovery CD/DVD, which can be used to reinstall the operating system."
It's not even clear how to do it on a Flash Drive though I would prefer using discs...

The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks."To fix this i converted the disk to a GPT disk in Disk ManagerNow im getting the Error "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the setup log files for more Information." Here is a screenshot of disk manager at the moment.I am trying to install Windows 8 to Disk 2.
