Dell :: Where Is Windows 8 Product Key Location On Latitude 10 Tablet
Jan 18, 2013
Where is the Windows 8 Product Key location on a Latitude 10 Tablet? I looked in the shipped documentation, the back of the machine and under the battery and did not see it. Is the Win8 product key published anywhere on my system?

All of a sudden my Windows 8.1 Dell Latitude 10 tablet cannot access most all of the Win32 applications. I go to access an item in windows explorer or say device manager and get a message system could not access or may not have permission. Most programs seem to be working, but a lot of services are not such as WiFi, sound, network etc. since I cannot access win32 applications I can not get into services.

I downloaded Windows 8.1 from MSDN. When I tried to run the setup from Windows, it said the OEM key is not supported with Windows 8.1. I surely can use a retail key from the MSDN account but that is my office account, and I should be able to use the key that I paid for anyways.
For example, on the desktop PC, when I edited the ISO file to bypass setup from asking for the key, I could simply activate using my original Windows 8 key after the installation was completed. I don't want to see anything weird happen to my existing recovery functionality and stuff so i was thinking about updating Windows to 8.1 instead of clean install.

I have a Dell Latitude E6400 with a 250GB HD and 4GB of RAM with a Intel Core 2 Duo CPU (p8700 @ 2.53GHz 2.54 GHz) that is running Windows 8.1 Pro for a 64-bit Operating System. I just recently moved to Brazil and generally my computer has been running fine without problems however over the past month since about the middle of November my computer has been randomly freezing... I've tried rolling back device drivers, looking at error checking and defragmenting, I tried the Windows memory error checker and nothing came up as well... I also tried removing programs that may have caused the problem around the time it started such as Google Hangouts and AVG... While after removing Hangouts I did notice that the computer ran cooler I still have the random freeze ups to where I have to force shut down the computer and do a hard reset. I have been looking in the event viewer and today I found these messages which never showed up before with any of the previous shut downs...
Log Name: Application
Source: ESENT

My Dell Latitude D830 won't reboot in any manner - windows fail to start. It starts on well, shows the Dell logo, loads the files on prompt and gets stuck on one of the files with 'Please wait...'
The problem it is the only Dell machine around and I lost my recovery key. I have useful files therein that I would like to recover and backup but it would not get even to the C: prompt by any option. How can can I create a recovery disk from the web or I must get another Dell machine? This is acutely an emergency for any asap response will go along way for me.
How can I create the recovery without a dell machine?

I have a Dell Latitude D630 and Windows 8. The generic Windows sound driver made the sound for the laptop run, but not with the docking station. I installed the Sigmatel drivers for Windows Vista 32bit. They also worked for me on Windows 7. First, they didn't wanna install, but then I made a BIOS update from Revision A03 to A18 and it solved the problem. Now again I have sound for the laptop, but when connected to the docking station the following happens:
When I set the normal speakers as output: Sound starts to play through the speakers connected to the docking station, but aborts quickly (for example the Windows sound when changing the volume).
When I set the SPDIF out as output: No sound at all!
The Sigmatel website obviously doesn't provide drivers since it's not existant anymore. The audio business was sold to IDT, but the IDT Website sucks: Detailed descriptions of all sound cards, but no drivers at all!
There was an IDT modded drivers section on laptopvideo2go.com before, but unfortunately the project is dead. I can't even find the uploaded files anymore. Anyway, one doesn't know if it works for Win 8 at all.
Audio device:
STAC9205
Device-ID:
HDAUDIOFUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_102801F9&REV_10024&C38AAC3&0&0001
I tried the following drivers from the Dell website already which according to Windows 8 work, but give me the described sound problem:
- 2Y0VM
- R153997
- R171788
- R171789
- R218148
how I can get this to work? Any other IDT drivers available?

I have an old Dell Latitude 100l laptop, with XP installed. I use it for University work. Now I've was able to download from Uni a copy of Windows 8.1, as an ISO image onto a DVD disc.
When i try and boot to the disc, it says "loading files"........and after a while i just get a black screen.
Is this because I cannot load Windows 8.1 onto my Dell laptop?
[URL] .... This is the spec of my laptop.

I've just upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 8 on a Dell Latitude D820, which went fine. But, after installing a new driver for the video card (Quadro NVS 120M), the Start Screen is not working anymore. As soon the mouse touches a tile, they all disappear and I'm left with only the background image.
I can go to the desktop by hitting Win+D and if I hit the Win key after some minutes the tiles are there again only to disappear as soon the mouse pointer touches them.
I've also discovered that I lose my right click capability until i log out/log back in.

I failed several times at installing Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit on my Latitude E6510 (from July 2010). Windows 7 Pro 32 bit was pre-installed when I bought the laptop. As I recently upgraded the RAM from 3 to 8 GB, I would like to use a 64 bit system now.I tried to boot from the installation DVD and the windows flag appears. After several seconds, a message on a blue background pops up: "Your PC ran into a problem. We are collecting some information and then we will restart it for you." That is the message, as fas as I can remember. It is only shown for one second and then the laptop reboots automatically. I have got no chance to get into an installation menu. I already tried a BIOS update from A03 to the most recent version A16 with no success. Boot mode is set to legacy at the moment, I also tried UEFI temporarily, with no change...

I've got this Dell tablet and it's touch screen has gone kaput. It works sometimes, it doesn't most of the times. It has gotten worse in the last few days. It only used to do that when resuming from Standby previously.
There is nothing I can do about it from my end. I have contacts Dell support and it seems they will take it back for repairs.
In the meantime, my recovery partition seems to be not working either. I first wanted to factory reset it to see if it is a software issue. (Easier to RMA as well) Dell has their own recovery software called Dell Backup and Recovery and it doesn't work. It would reboot back to Windows 8's recovery environment (F8) and wait there. I have used Recovery once and maybe it screwed up everything. I don't know.
I tried Windows Refresh and Recovery features and they don't work either. Refresh asks me to insert the media .
Recovery tells me that i cannot find a recovery image in my drive.
I have used Refresh many times when the touch screen problem originally appeared, and then it didn't ask for the install media. Seems that it was using the recovery image that was originally in the drive.
Now the recovery image is either missing or inaccessible by any sort of recovery. I tried creating a Recovery media using the Dell Backup and Recovery software and it also stops saying that an error has occurred. How informative.
This is the current state of Disk Management screen. Why are there so many partitions? The right click menu only pops up for C: partition. It's empty for other partitions.
BTW, I have Windows 8.1 Preview installed as well. I have used Refresh few times after that as well. I don't think it has anything to do with the issue. But it would be great if I can reset it back to factory image before sending for RMA.

Is there a known issue for Dell Latitude 10 not being able to connect successfully to a Netgear PTV3000? I tested it after the Windows 8.1 update but the WPS PIN entry is the farthest that I could get. It won't show up at all in the Windows 8.1 devices or Project/Display option. My android phone can connect to the PTV3000 flawlessly.

I have the 32-bit version of Win 8 Enterprise on a USB, and when I get to the "Installing Windows 8.1 screen" it get to 35%, and then gives a popup that the "Windows 8.1 Installation Has Failed". I was trying to see if there was a real error message or log to tell me what the issue is, but I haven't been able to locate anything yet. I don't even make it to the following screen ....

I currently have an issue with activating Windows 8.1. I bought a Samsung series 7 chronos NP780 last November that came with Windows 8 installed already. I upgraded to 8.1 a few days ago and left it overnight to complete. Everything went fine up until I had to activate it. It says that the product key is incorrect and to enter a different one. I have looked at the box that the laptop came in, the manuals in it and on the laptop itself and there is no product key to be found. One or two of the manuals/booklets might be missing but I'm fairly sure that the product key is within the BIOS so should it not recognise the product key itself automatically and complete the upgrade without asking me for the key? I ran belarc to can by laptop and at the section where the product key should be it says "Key: None activated". I also ran keyfinder and the key it gave me back didnt work (although the end of it seems to match the end of the one that is listed as the "current product key".

My company gave me a Windows 8 Enterprise product key, which I'm trying to use to upgrade a version of Windows I'm running. I visited this link -- Upgrade Windows with only a product key - Microsoft Windows Support, clicked the "Install Windows 8" button, ran the setup file that downloaded, and when prompted for the product key, entered it, only to see the message.
The product key cannot be used to install a retail version of Windows 8.
Is there another ISO I should be using? Ultimately I'm trying to get an ISO for use with my VMWare Fusion 6 install running on my Mac (10.9.1). I'm confident the product key given to me by my company is legit, but it obviously isn't a retail product key, probably some kind of corporate key or the equivalent.

I posted a thread a couple days ago, which pertained to backup and restore of system images.
Windows 8.1/Windows 8 and backup software that works well with UEFI and GPT disks.
I just have another question which related to the last thread, then I think I will be able to sleep.
Can you system image a drive that has Win 8.1 (OEM) onto a new SSD, and not have your sheer will destroyed by the OS not being activated after the image has been applied to new SSD?
I would hope that once the image has been applied to the new drive, the magic within Win 8.1 would realise I am using the same motherboard, but it's just a different drive. Infact, I'm keeping the original 2TB drive in the exact same slot, but of course formatting it once I can get the SSD to boot. (I'm installing the SSD into my Acer's expansion SATA 3 bay on the front of the case - hot swappable technology or something)

Windows 8 moves to BIOS-based product keys Product keys for Windows 8 computers aren't printed on a sticker. They're encrypted in the BIOS. How might that affect you?
My question: is this possible..?? Can a OS write to BIOS..?
If it true you can NEVER switch to a other OS..!!! You need to buy a new PC...
