View 1 RepliesWe are deploying several hundred win 8.1 enterprise tablets and I'd like to set the default location to our local city when users first sign in. I can't find any information on the internet about how to do this programmaticly or via the registry (or even better via group policy)
Where the weather app location / city data is stored in the registry or in an ini file or something somewhere that I can modify via a script?
The Weather App is not Remembering Location. I have to set it to New York every time I restart my PC otherwise it always shows Washington DC weather .
I just have to launch it and then it automatically changes to my location.
My weather app keeps telling me the conditions & forecast for Helena, Montana. I am sure it is a wonderful place, and I am thrilled to know it is now 32 degrees F outside, however I live in New Jersey. I cannot find a "change location" function in its settings. Where does the weather app get its location info from, and how can I correct it?

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo far I am extremely happy with my Asus table and Windows 8.1. Everything I have tried to do was simple and easy except one thing. Since for some (stupid reason IMO) reason few of the Windows tablets have the GPS enabled the ME400C included so i am forced to use a Bluetooth GPS. But I have found few maps that are off line. I have tried about every app I can find and the most promising was HERE that has offline maps but it doesn't seem to support the GPS, at least I haven't been able to get it to see my BT GPS. Any good combination of the works with a Bluetooth GPS and has offline maps?
View 9 Replies View RelatedThe Maps app that is on the start screen shows an aerial view of my neighborhood that is at least three years old. It says copyright 2014 but it is obvious the image is very old.
This is a new computer updated to Win 8.1. Does the app need updating?
I noticed that when I log on to my user profile Maps and Store app load in the background and use too much memory and cpu for my liking. Is there a way to keep that from happening without loosing the apps completely?
I also noticed that there used to be many projects/threads that tried to get rid of as much metro as possible. Where have they all gone? Nobody actually uses these crappy apps, right? I'd love an option to use (boot option or different user profile) Windows 8.1 without all the metro crap to have as much power left for games as possible. I noticed that when I rename twinui.dll that saves quite some memory but explorer shell won't load.
Metro app weather says it can't run if uac is off. Why Win 8 started giving that message, although I did have uac control off. Is there a fix other than having uac on.

I have many Drive maps object affected to my users that work fines, the problem I have is when I disconect my laptop from the network and reboot, all network drive disappears and I don't have access to any of my "offline" files on those drives.
I have windows 8.1 which has a weather program. Is there anyway to put the temperature on the desktop without the rest of the images?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have The Weather app permissions set to allow it to display the weather on the lock screen. This has been working fine for some time -- up until now.
Now it only shows alerts, not the temperature.
I did a clean install of 8.1 RTM yesterday and have a problem with Weather App. About 20x per second I get error id 10016 when I launch the app. It seems to be saying that my user does not have rights to launch "Immersive Shell" local server. From what I can see however this is picked up from defaults which do allow launch.
I've not changed any permissions as I don't really understand DCOM but do these setting look correct?
I recently upgraded to 8.1 (actually, made a clean install), and everything seems to be working as designed. Except, on the Start Screen, although all the other apps show live tiles, the Weather app does not, showing only a plain blue background with the word "Weather" on it. The live tile feature is definitely turned on for this app.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to turn on live tile for my weather app. When I right click on it, there is no option at the bottom of the screen to turn it on.
Compared to the photos app, it is currently running live tile by default, and when I right click on it, I can toggle live tile on and off.
Is there something special I need to do with the weather app to activate live tile?
Using 8.1 my weather live tile does not work if I have the option set to Fahrenheit. Once I set it to Celsius the live tile works just fine.
I tried installing the app again with no change. I really want it to display in F
News weather sport food and drink apps won't start. They show their start screen, then they disapear. Leaving me on the start page.

I can't seem to find the Cookies location in 8.1.
In Windows 8 it was at : C:UsersusernameAppDataRoamingMicrosoft
I've unchecked "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)". Where Cookies are stored in Windows 8.1?
Is there any driver for this thing ? I searched and used windows update and found nothing ....
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to migrate my old XP Firefox persdict.dat file content over to Windows 8. It is not where it was supposed to be.
c:UsersJohnDoeAppDataRoamingMozillaFirefoxProfilesUnique-1234-IDpersdict.dat
The only persdict.dat file I can find is for Thunderbird. (I'm fairly certain the apps don't share a file.) I go to Firefox and type something into a random website's comments (dorkdorkdork), and right click and save that to the Firefox custom dictionary, but I'm not able to find that string anywhere on the PC? So if I go to C: and F3 to search for dorkdorkdork, it should be able to find that text on the machine right? Since the unique text is in a standard unencrypted text file.
I have a few Programs that have Databases. When the program is setup, the Database gets setup in My Documents. If I change the location to another folder, the Program still shows the Folder in My Documents. Is there a way to stop this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to do this in 8? I've been doing it since Vista, but I can't seem to make it permanent in 8.
Redirect a folder to a new location
I need the default my documents folder to be on a different drive, I know I can "add another location" for the library, but when programs automatically use "My Documents" they still go into the C: instead of being they would be directed to the D: because of the above procedure in the link.
No Apps can find my Location. (their not finding an incorrect location, but not finding ANY location info). I have Windows Location Platform enabled in Control Panel. I have Let Apps Use My Location turned on in User Settings. All apps have Location turned on..but. NONE OF THEM can find location.
One App will give me this error "Location Service Error: Either using the current location is blocked, or network is down".
Is it possible I inadvertently disabled an essential startup program or service?
I've had this error for some time wherein I would try to open my documents folder and I get this message every time: 'C:UsersMeDocuments is not accessible. The file name, directory name, and volume label syntax is incorrect.' I also noticed that nothing was inside the folder at all, as I've checked its properties.
However, it seems that all those original files in the documents folder along with the folder itself seemed to have been moved to a different directory, as I managed to open it from my desktop in the windows explorer. It only appears from there too, as I've checked my libraries and no documents folder existing as well.
The only time It did open was when I tried creating a shortcut of that inaccessible folder onto my desktop and opening it from there. It's bothering me because I can't seem to install anything properly without a message telling me that it can't access my documents files or that it can't find the directory, etc.
I have Win 8.1 running in my PC; I don't know how and when, but the default location of screenshots (as taken by pressing Win key and PrntScr together) has changed to a random folder somewhere in drive E. I know that location, and if this is possible, how can I change that default location to wherever I want?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using time freeze program and at same time I am using an free vpn service which pasword changes per week. The time free program has an option to keep some folder and files non freez while freezing active. For instance while freezing active user can select desktop to not be frozen by this way after restart pc will not delete changes done on desktop. My main problem is that after a week later I have to defreez the pc type the pasword and refreez the pc. If I know where the pasword of vpn kept I will able to overcome on this problem.
There is a location with path %userprofile%AppDataRoamingMicrosoftNetworkCo nnectionsPbk that contain vpn configurations except user name and password. I need the location that store user name and password.
How to delete or disable that folder I accidentally created don't know how, because I want to change those folders to under D drive, how to change location folder to another drive.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAlways when i install a new version of windows i change the default location of music, documents, downloads etc. Accidentally i change the documents folder to Documents without the after D: (don't know why windows let me choose this location in the first place). But I can't change the location, every time i right click on the documents folder to change the location, explorer crashes.
First I thought it wouldn't be a big problem by changing the default folder in different programs to D:Documents for example in Office. But for soms programs it's a problem, I can't change the default folder and it takes Documents which gives an error.
It's also creating random documents folders on my D partition.
How can I change the default folder for documents? I'm not talking about the library folders, but the folders underneath "This PC"
