View 2 RepliesI have The Weather app permissions set to allow it to display the weather on the lock screen. This has been working fine for some time -- up until now.
Now it only shows alerts, not the temperature.
I had to get rid of realtemp because of BSOD issues. What are some good monitors that will track the temperature and give me warnings when it goes over?

I am setting up a Surface as an interface for a medical device. Our program runs as a Startup program, and this seems to work- except that it's running on the Desktop while the user stares at the Start screen
Is there something I can do to get to the desktop? (We are skipping the login screen after startup/sleep). I can run a windows DLL call if I need to- I just don't know if there is something to run.
The next question is going to be how to replace the shell with our program...
Is a CPU temperature in the 70's with a max of about 85 too high for gaming when playing battlefield bad company 2.
I have a quad core i7 3630 cpu.
Will this high temperature damage my cpu? What kind of temperatures to get?

How to successfully install and use PDF converter on Win 8?
Does this CPU have no way of measuring / monitoring the temperature of all 4 cores individually.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI found a way to get my list of programs on to the tool/task bar. From there I dragged one of the programs to the desktop thinking it would just create a shortcut. It didn't. It took the program off the dropdown list and put it on the desktop. I can't find a way to put it back in the drop down list of programs. I realize it's not earth shattering but it is definitely a huge annoyance to me since I want to have a 'shortcut' on both the programs drop down list and on the desktop.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI like to use the desktop on my laptop rather than the tiles. I had no problem putting the browser on the desktop, but am a loss for putting the mail program there; there doesn't seem to be an executable file in the mail directory.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI did a clean install of 8.1 RTM yesterday and have a problem with Weather App. About 20x per second I get error id 10016 when I launch the app. It seems to be saying that my user does not have rights to launch "Immersive Shell" local server. From what I can see however this is picked up from defaults which do allow launch.
I've not changed any permissions as I don't really understand DCOM but do these setting look correct?
I recently upgraded to 8.1 (actually, made a clean install), and everything seems to be working as designed. Except, on the Start Screen, although all the other apps show live tiles, the Weather app does not, showing only a plain blue background with the word "Weather" on it. The live tile feature is definitely turned on for this app.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to turn on live tile for my weather app. When I right click on it, there is no option at the bottom of the screen to turn it on.
Compared to the photos app, it is currently running live tile by default, and when I right click on it, I can toggle live tile on and off.
Is there something special I need to do with the weather app to activate live tile?
We are deploying several hundred win 8.1 enterprise tablets and I'd like to set the default location to our local city when users first sign in. I can't find any information on the internet about how to do this programmaticly or via the registry (or even better via group policy)
Where the weather app location / city data is stored in the registry or in an ini file or something somewhere that I can modify via a script?
The Weather App is not Remembering Location. I have to set it to New York every time I restart my PC otherwise it always shows Washington DC weather .
I just have to launch it and then it automatically changes to my location.
Using 8.1 my weather live tile does not work if I have the option set to Fahrenheit. Once I set it to Celsius the live tile works just fine.
I tried installing the app again with no change. I really want it to display in F
My weather app keeps telling me the conditions & forecast for Helena, Montana. I am sure it is a wonderful place, and I am thrilled to know it is now 32 degrees F outside, however I live in New Jersey. I cannot find a "change location" function in its settings. Where does the weather app get its location info from, and how can I correct it?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm a Windows 8. I'm trying to RDP from my new Windows 8 laptop to an XP desktop, both of which are on my home network. When I try, I get the below error...
Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons:
1) Remote access to the server is not enabled
2) The remote computer is turned off
3) The remote computer is not available on the network
As best as I can tell, none of the conditions above is true. Here is what I have looked at so far...
- On the XP machine, in System settings / Remote, "Allow users to connect to this system" is Checked. I have successfully RDP'd to this machine in the past, but this is the first time I've tried from the Windows 8 machine.
- From the Windows 8 machine, I can ping the XP machine, and I can access a shared drive on the XP machine. In fact, I've been moving files between the XP machine and the Windows 8 machine, in both directions, all day.
- Just to eliminate another potential issue, I have set the username and password on the Windows 8 machine to match that on the XP machine.
Incidentally, XP machine is running XP Pro, 2002, SP3.
I tried downloading AutoCAD on my laptop, but got an error message. I removed the McAfee which came with Windows, but no luck. I then also removed AVG and it managed to download.
I've then attempted to restart, however the 'Toshiba Leading Innovation' screen simply kept flashing at the start up and didn't continue.
After approximately 15 minutes of flashing, it's now stopped and the page is static.
It's been just over 20 minutes total now, and the page continues to be static with the fan making more noise than usual.
I've powered down twice, but this keeps happening...
Should I re-install windows?
I just got Windows 8.

My laptop has an HD screen, 1920x1080 to be exact. Some of my desktop icons are out of focus and blurry, but others aren't. At first I assumed that those icons were not compatible with an HD screen or something, but then some of them fixed themselves. Others are still blurry.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been getting errors everytime that I open a program (ANY and EVERY program). When booted into safe mode I'm not getting any errors. Here's some pictures of me opening google chrome, skype, and Windows Media Player.
It seems to be the exact same error for all of them and the only program that DOESNT seem to give me the error is paint. As soon as I click "ok", the program opens like normal but this is incredibly annoying.
This error started immediately after I installed Windows 8 from Windows 7, I might add.
I have 2 versions, an .exe and an .iso.
