Opening Certain Folders Causes Windows Explorer To Crash
Sep 15, 2014There's a certain folder on my external HDD which causes Windows Explorer to crash when I attempt to open it. I've tried running a full virus scan and nothing has been detected, so I'm ruling out anything like that. Could it be down to file corruption?
Also, strangely enough, I copied the folder to my desktop and was able to open it and look through the files, however, as soon as I try to sort the files by certain parameters (date, size, etc.), it causes Windows Explorer to crash again.

Jul 3, 2013I have recently installed a new Video Card a Gigabyte GeForce 660 GTX, when I'm playing video's or if I open the Geforce Experience program from the task bar the screen goes blank for about a second then returns to normal, it always seems to happen when I get the program to check for updates. I am using the latest driver 320.49.
When I play games there's no problem occur so I don't think it's the card it's self, I suspect it's something to do with the program.

Mar 21, 2014I recently installed a new ssd and did a fresh install of windows 8.1 on it. I am now using my old hdd as my main data drive in my laptop caddy. My problem is I did not back up my data on my hdd and format it. So I need to delete the "windows" , "program files" and "program files (x86) " folders from that hdd to free up some space.
I understand I have to give ownership to those folders for me to be able to do delete the folders. I have tired the methods suggested by this guide Take Ownership of a File, Folder, Drive, or Registry Key in Windows 8 I tried both of those commands
(To grant currently logged on user ownership of) takeown /F "full path of folder or drive" /R /D Y (To grant administrators group ownership of) takeown /F "full path of folder or drive" /A /R /D Y and it was succesful, however I still couldn't delete the folders.

Oct 19, 2013Something is causing all My Documents files and folders to show up on my Desktop (along with what is normally there).They are not shortcuts.Properties show that they are actually located in My Desktop folder, but in My Documents, where they belong.
How I got to this state:
When I originally installed Win8Pro, I used sysprep to move Users to D drive, at OOBE.
I tried to reverse this, so I could upgrade to 8.1, but sysprep fails to get me to audit mode.
So I booted into Safe Mode with a new temp admin acct, and copied users back to C drive.
Then I used regedit to point all the profiles back to C drive.
Rebooted. Logged into my main account.
I then used Properties on all my Profile movable folders to move that content back to D.
All well and good until my Desktop fills up with files and folders, that aren't really supposed to display there.
They work the same and point to the same files if I access them normally through my account icon.
I've been looking for copy errors, haven't found anything yet.
No Text For Icons / Folders In Desktop Mode
May 8, 2014When in desktop mode, I have folders I have created sitting on the desktop where the txt is not present. If I hover over, or right-click and select properties can obviously see that info. Please note the problem is not that the txt is the wrong color or something, its that the text is not there.

Jul 26, 2014For a couple weeks I have been streaming shows to my ps3 from my computer. On my PS3 I have access to four folders, Videos, Music, Pictures, and Playlists, the first three of which I can locate on my computer. When I want to watch a video, I simply copy it into the Videos folder on my computer, then stream from there.
Now I'd like to stream music, my problem is that my music isn't in my Music folder, I have it in a separate folder that doesn't show up on my PS3. Copying over all my music would take time, and I'd also have to redo my WMP playlists. I have tried adding this folder to my shared folder list, and to my Music library, but neither of these things made a difference.
I've spent a couple hours now trying to figure this out, but I can't seem to find anything on google that relates to my specific problem, but there is absolutely no way I'm the first person who's ever wanted to access folder's other than the 4 I've mentioned.

It shows up on the system in my new win8.1 system, but when I try to use CTRL + P to print from Firefox, nothing happens, and its not an option using the context menu. If I select the print option in the hidden menu o the right (Charm?) I get a message "you can only print from an app" Is a browser not an app? I thought that an app was just slang for a program.

Jan 23, 2014Installed a new laser jet printer and can't print multiple pages. Looked the problem up on other forums and it says to disable mopier mode. I can't find this anywhere. Have looked in printer properties and selected device settings tab and it's not there. Is there a different way of doing this on Windows 8 or am I doing completely the wrong thing to solve this problem.
