It shows up on the system in my new win8.1 system, but when I try to use CTRL + P to print from Firefox, nothing happens, and its not an option using the context menu. So am I not supposed to print anymore unless I use the apps supplied by windows?
If I select the print option in the hidden menu o the right (Charm?) I get a message "you can only print from an app" Is a browser not an app? I thought that an app was just slang for a program.
I assume that there is a way to print from a browser, or even to an adobe pdf.
For some reason my printers no longer work. I tried reinstalling the printers and drivers but got an error message that the printer spooler was no longer functioning. The Print Spooler no longer shows in my Services. I cannot find it in my Registry. Everything I tried when I googled the problem did not work. How do you reinstall a Print Spooler or fix a corrupted spoolsv.exe file In the registry?

Installed a new laser jet printer and can't print multiple pages. Looked the problem up on other forums and it says to disable mopier mode. I can't find this anywhere. Have looked in printer properties and selected device settings tab and it's not there. Is there a different way of doing this on Windows 8 or am I doing completely the wrong thing to solve this problem.

I cannot print with Win8anymore! I was able to print on my WIFI networked printers previously with this computer.
Other computers on the network can print to them. Upon investigation, I found that the print spoiler ws off. I found the MS directions for restarting the Spooler. I turned it on it shuts itself off when you look at the installed print drivers!
I downloaded my bank statement today and printed same. Print came out pretty small. Normally, on my windows XP pro, when I did this, the print was normal size, if I can say that. Usually it was a "fit-to-page" thing. I couldn't see a way to download the file and make any modifications. Also, in the past I was using Adobe Reader program. Wondering what program windows 8.1 is using and if I need to download and install the Adobe program and somehow set it as the default program.

If I can't wake the computer before a print job, what is the best practice to conserve energy on a system that is primary used as a print server?

I had a Windows 7 environment and just recently purchased a Windows 8 laptop.. .well win 8.1 Pro to be exact. On all of my windows 7 machines I can ping 192.168.1.199 and get solid response and go to that address in the browser and no issue. On the new Window 8.1 laptop I ping that address and sometimes get 1 timeout with 3 responses... other times it just times out and sometimes I get all 4 replies... The print server has a web interface but I am unable to connect to it at all - is there something I need to set in Win 8?

For many years, I've used the Generic / Text Only virtual printer driver to convert Web pages and other files to plain text with minimal formatting, but the last time I used it, the resulting file was peppered with unnecessary spaces, making it close to indecipherable when viewed in a text editor. Has some recent update changed the way this driver works (or, in my case, doesn't work)?
I've attached two files to illustrate the problem: filler.html contains a few paragraphs of boilerplate text, and filler.prn is the result I get from loading filler.html into Firefox and printing it to the Text Only "printer". (Both files were renamed to filler.*.txt to conform to this forum's limitations for uploaded files.) Note that the output file is more than ten times the size of the input file; if you examine it with a hex editor, you'll see that the increased size of the output is due to many sequences of a carriage return (without a linefeed) and several spaces being unnecessarily inserted in the output stream every few characters.
I imagine if this were sent to a 1970s-era printer, the defects in the output would be invisible on the page, but since the whole point of the Text Only driver is to bypass any physical printer, I don't understand this change in behavior. Is there any way to prevent this and get back to the output I'm used to?
I have recently upgraded from XP to 8.1. Nightmare. I have dozens of issues but the main one exercising me at the moment is how to print only the first page of an email. I cannot find any options to do this. If there is an email thread extending to 34 pages, I only want to print the first page.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an Epson BX635FWD printer that has and does work perfectly with Windows XP. I have recently purchased a Lenovo B540 with Windows 8 and it loaded the print drivers immediately. I thought how easy it was but have since found that it will not print a multi page document in full, but will suddenly stop halfway through a page. I made do by printing a couple of pages at a time, but then tried to print a 10 x 15 cm photo and it would only print 1/3 before stopping and spitting the paper out. The number of pages it prints correctly before giving an error message and ejecting the paper is inconsistent.
I have reloaded driver 1.32 (for Windows 8) from the Epson site twice and I have also gone back to the disc supplied with the printer and reloaded the driver from there.
Printing was working correctly for me until today.
This morning I installed Windows Update KB2753842. After that, I could not longer print. This might be coincidental, but it is the only thing that I can think of that has changed since I was able to print.
Now, when I try to print I get the 'Save Print Output As' wizard, prompting me to save to a file. This happens even though the previous Print wizard screen has the 'Print to file' choice unticked.
I have installed windows 8 consumer preview.I have also installed my printer drivers and they installed correctly, but problem is that my printer can't print anything(test page also). My printer is HP Laser-jet 1020.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I run a program in compatibility mode, what changes are made in OS?
To make my question more specific.
When I print from windows 8, the spl file has very different structure than when I print from windows 7.
But when I run the application in compatibility mode windows 7, the spl file that is created is exactly the same with windows 7 spl.
So I try to find out what compatibility mode changes, in order to produce in windows 8 a .spl file that is exactly the same with windows 7 spl, without running my app in compatibility mode.
I am very new to Windows 8. I'm trying to print a line drawing that is saved as a jpeg. I need to print it at 250%, but how to do so. When I try to print it, it does not give me the printer options like previous versions of Windows did. Advanced options only allow me to choose orientation and page order. It does allow me to choose size as far as full page, 8x10, 5x7, 4x6, contact sheet, etc, but this is not what I need. I need to be able to print actual size and scale up (or down) from there.

I'm really enjoying Windows 8. However, I can't figure out how to print a download or PDF when it's downloaded. On XP, there's a menu that shows up around the download with choices. The only choices I can find on Windows 8 is how you want to view the download or closing it. Where do you get the print option?
