Apps / Software :: Good CPU Temperature Monitors For Windows 8?
Feb 15, 2013I had to get rid of realtemp because of BSOD issues. What are some good monitors that will track the temperature and give me warnings when it goes over?

View 9 RepliesI have The Weather app permissions set to allow it to display the weather on the lock screen. This has been working fine for some time -- up until now.
Now it only shows alerts, not the temperature.
Background: Yesterday, I upgraded my graphics card and updated from 8 to 8.1, so there is the possibility that this is not an 8.1 issue.
I have 3 monitors running at 1920x1080. Two are computer monitors and one is an hdtv. With Windows 8, the experience on each monitor was identical.
The Problem: With 8.1, one monitor (the hdtv) is scaling things funny. At first it was like all applications (desktop and metro apps) were magnified on the screen. As I dragged an item from screen to screen, I could literally see it magnify once most of it was on the hdtv screen. Icon size, however, remained consistent across displays. After enabling the "Let me choose one scaling level for all my displays" options, desktop apps stopped magnifying.
Nevertheless, the metro UI keeps scaling up unnecessarily on the hdtv. In the pics below the left monitor is the hdtv.
I almost exclusively use the hdtv for metro apps, but at this size, it's horribly inefficient.
Is there any way to "tell" Windows (8.1) which programs are OK to run and modify the system? I get tired of saying OK every time I run one of many utilities like True Image 2013, Auslogics, CoreTemp, CPUz and the list goes on and on. I have UAC set to the lowest level short of Off. I really don't want to turn UAC Off since I keep thinking it might actually catch a bad guy sometime! I have my W7 systems UAC set the same way as Windows 8 but don't get all the annoying popups!
I was wrong - W7 UAC acts the same way as Windows 8. I had it Turned Off in W7 and turned it on to the lowest level to check but the change does not take effect until the system is rebooted. So...I'll run Windows 8 with UAC Off too unless there is a better way.
I have windows 8.1 which has a weather program. Is there anyway to put the temperature on the desktop without the rest of the images?

I have a quad core i7 3630 cpu.
Will this high temperature damage my cpu? What kind of temperatures to get?
Does this CPU have no way of measuring / monitoring the temperature of all 4 cores individually.

I heard letting the computer just go to sleep and not actually turning it off is bad for the computer? is that true?
View 9 Replies View Relatedhow to rebuilt user with broken system settings and keep directory structure (for scripts and non -windows friendly software) and hopefully user name.
Problem: Main user profile is broken, flat out broken. After login the screen starts flashing and it gets worse from there. I can run everything and not duplicate the error message. I always create a pristine user when I do an OS install. Administrator is OK, but it has saved me more than once to have the regular admin-type account. Since I have the nice, fluffy, running profile now I would like to learn just where is it reading these files that tell it bad things.
Another is a broken video driver (sounds were Windows Default on the working one, I told it no sounds in light of what I read) Both profiles are running the exact desktop wallpaper changer, it is working fine on the one account. I couldn't turn it off anyway on the bad account, I can't get to any of the settings windows, regedit, control panel items (that I want) are not running. Same errors as above.
I assume the calls are in the .appdata directory or perhaps the registry. I used to know how to open another user's registry in regedit but can't figure it out in Windows 8. Is there a way to tell it only to run particular services for a certain user, I can't see the services module when in the broken profile, again, same type of errors as before. Not sure which info you want on the machine or how you get it.

I am using Windows 8 x64
I am getting a new computer tower, keyboard and mouse next Friday, I was wondering how windows 8.1 is with a dell 19 inch 4:3 not wide screen monitor.

And as you can't resize windows at all (that I can work out!) I can only do 1 thing at a time which is useless.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen moving my cursor between my two monitors, it stops at the border. To get to the other screen I either have to keep moving my mouse towards the border or move the cursor at high speed between the two. The issue occurs no matter where I cross, and does not appear to be related to the metro charms or multitasking.
My desktop just recently installed the Windows 8.1 Update (Pro 64-bit), and since then I have had this problem off and on. I do not know what causes it to happen. I have two monitors, side by side. A 1050x1680 monitor on the left, with a 1920x1080 monitor on the right. The top edges of these monitors are aligned.
This phenomenon is incredibly annoying, so any methods of stopping. I'd also be interested to know how and why this happens.
I am attempting to use dual monitors using my HPG56 laptop. It uses
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series, windows 8.1...The laptop screen is broke, and doesn't work at all. I am using one of these adaptors to connect both monitors. I can't use extended display no mouse cursor appears on either monitor and after a few seconds it reverts back to duplicate setting. Am i using the right adaptor, and if not, what do i need?
I have a 144Hz and 60Hz monitor. I want to game on the 144Hz and do normal work on the 60Hz monitor. How can I do that?
View 1 Replies View RelatedA friend of mine wants to use the cycling backgrounds in windows 8 with 2 monitors but it behaves like this:
monitor1:background1;monitor2:background2 change of backgrounds monitor1:background3;monitor2:background4
He wants both monitors to show the same background.
Currently, I run Windows 7 Pro on dual 24" monitors, and life is good.
In Win 8, if I open the desktop tile, I presume that the default action is to open the full-screen desktop app on just 1 of the 2 monitors. I'm guessing that the "Start" screen remains on the 2nd monitor.
Can I have the desktop app open, full screen, across both monitors? Can I have icons for my so-called legacy programs littered across both monitors like I have them on the Win 7 desktop? Just to clarify, I am NOT asking about having the background wallpaper extend across both monitors. I want the actual desktop application to extend across both monitors.
I have two monitors. Some of my programs can take the whole screen, covering up everything including the task bar. In W7, I just used the MS clock gadget which I moved to the second screen so I could always see the time. Now in Windows 8.1 Update, I can see all the apps that I've pined to the active task bar, but I don't see the system tray with the time to the right. Doesn't have to be the task bar, of course -- could be a floating clock in the upper right or left or anywhere you like.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to change the default lock screen settings so that it displays on all monitors? For example, I have a triple monitor setup. When I hit Win + L, the lock screen only shows on the middle screen... I'd love for it to show on all three screens if possible.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just learned! You can hold down the <Windows> key and press <page up> or <page down> to switch the Start screen to another monitor in a multimonitor setup.
So there are 3 ways to move the Start screen:
1) click in the bottom left corner of the desired monitor to have the start screen there
2) use <Windows> + <Page Up> or <Windows> + <Page Down> to cycle the start screen through the monitors
3) grab the top edge of any Windows Store/Metro app and move the app to another monitor. That will automatically move the Start screen to that monitor as the Windows Store app must be on the same monitor as the Start screen.
I have three monitors connected up, sometimes when i open the metro screen via the windows key, it just freezes, i'm unable to close it or do anything with it, pressing the windows button does nothing either. I can still work on the other two screens however.S earching then clicking on files ALWAYS freezes it, to fix it i have to log out then back in or restart explorer.exe, why is this happening?

Is there a way to disable the taskbar from showing on all my extra monitors? I only need it on my main screen, I do not need/want it on my other 3 screens as it takes away from the total resolution of the screen.
Hiding the task bar is not an option.
I've been looking at some of the MATROX graphic cards for multi-monitor output -- up to 8 possible !!
Now any decent software to run these -- the standard software seems OK at running TWO monitors but I want to be able to run several more. You can run more but it gets a bit complicated managing this from within the standard windows system itself.
Five Best Tools for Managing Your Multi-Monitor Setup
My System : I have two machines that share two monitors by the use of two KVMs. They both use Nviria GeForce vraphics cards (with twin DVI outputs).
One machine is Win 7 Pro X64 and the other is Win 8 Pro X64. Both have the latest Nvidia drivers. Both are full retail legal versions of the OS.
My Problem : When I switch between machines I usually lose one screen and it cannot be reactivated without a reboot. Sometimes the other screen reverts to its default resolution. This happens on every switch over with Win 8 and sometimes with Win 7 but not always.
I have discoverd that if I switch the 2nd screen forst and then the main KVM (which has the keyboard and mouse) then usually the Win 7 machine continues to see both screens. The Win 8 machine virtually always loses the primary screen (the mouse and keyboard attached to this KVM are unaffected and switch correctly always)
I suspect this might be an nvidia problem but short og buying a new graphics card I have no way of determining this.
I have a brand-new HDCP supporting monitor (native resolution 1920 x 1080,) on which I play the latest blu ray movies from the computers built-in blu ray drive, and a 9 year old flat screen non-HD plasma TV (on which I watch You Tube, BBC iPlayer and 4OD, streamed from the PC via a VGA cable,) both connected to my GT610 NVidia graphics card.
It seems I can only get them at the same resolution. My desktop does however have it's own on board graphics processor. Is it possible to run these two devices at different resolutions? (Since the ancient flat screen can only handle resolutions up to 1600 x 1200.)
ASUS P8 Z77-V LK mobo has 1 each VGA, HDMI, DVI-D & Display
At first I was not confused thinking I could use VGA or DVI for my monitor and HDMI or VGA for my TV
Then I started reading about 'Display Port' and confusion set in.
1. -> Can I just use HDMI & DVI off the board at the same time to use 2 monitors ?
2. -> or Do I have to use an adapter and 'Display Port' for the 2nd monitor ?
My setup is :-
Windows 8.1, 64 bit;
Asus RAIDR Express PCIe SSD;
Asus GT630-SL-2GD3-L GPU;
Asus SABERTOOTH Z97 MARK 1 Motherboard, BIOS version 0602, (the first version).
I have two monitors, a Dell u2412m which is plugged into the DVI socket on the GPU, and an iiyama XB2776QS which is connected to the DisplayPort socket on the motherboard. This was the only way I could find to get each monitor to use the maximum resolution it is capable of.
Whenever I open a program I have no idea on which monitor it will be displayed, sometimes a program will display in the iiyama, but the next time I open it I can see it on the Dell. I also find that if I switch the monitors off for a few hours, the next time I switch them on the programme might be displaying in a different monitor.
I am not sure if this is because I am not using the new, horrible, Metro style which Microsoft thought to introduce, or something else. I did try a piece of software called MurGeeMon, but this did not solve the problem.
Could it be because one of my monitors is connected to the GPU and the other to the MoBo?
I am using 2 monitors and when i go fullscreen on youtube for example it opens up a tiny video on the other screen. It has only just happened. I am using chrome btw but it also happens on I.E...
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just rebuilt my PC and decided to make the jump from Windows XP to Windows 8. The jump has not been smooth, but it looks like I have ironed out my biggest problem (incorrect installation due to not creating a system partition therefore Windows 8 = no DVD, no boot; rookie error).
Now I am stuck with an issue - windows detects my only screen as more than one. Sometimes it thinks I have two, more often it thinks I have 3 or 4. Installing the current nVidia drivers did not work.
What I have at the moment is 2 generic non-PnP monitors and 2 generic PnP monitors detected, according to device manager. nVidia control panel calls them Dell SX2210, VGA display, (i can't recall the 3rd one, I'm on my laptop now), and TV. Windows display setup calls two of the SX2210, and the other two are either generic non-PnP or PnP monitors. In nVidia control panel it looks as though I have a clone setup (2 screens enabled) with the Dell SX2210 and the VGA display. In windows display setup it looks as though I have a clone setup (2 screens enabled) with Dell SX2210 and generic monitor.
I have repeatedly unchecked the secondary monitors in both nVidia control panel and windows display setup, leaving me with what should be a single monitor arrangement and 3 disabled monitors. This works until I restart my computer, which then reverts back to what it was before. This is OK as a workaround most of the time, but sometimes when I boot up the computer it detects the wrong screen as the primary and I get a monitor which goes to power save mode. The solution to this is Win Key + P and change the display selection while blind, which works now I know how. Sometimes my screen will refresh (installing programs or drivers) and I get the same result. Detect displays also results in no signal to my monitor.
Currently using DVI from the graphics card to DVI on the monitor.

*Yes I know the 260 is an older card, it has come from my old system for economics reasons (to be upgraded later), but it was working perfect on that machine.
Just reinstalled Windows 8.1 and can't figure out what the deal is. I have a four monitor setup, and all of this worked perfectly before I reinstalled. I actually remember dealing with this issue before, but I couldn't remember how I fixed it.
Basically, with two monitors, everything works perfectly. The minute I connect my third monitor, it's like all the screen flicker, and then I get logged out and back to the start screen.
I've tried updating nvidia drivers but it doesn't work.
I have an ASUS mother board and don't use an graphics card.
I had two monitors and an HDMI cable plugged in. The short story is that the Intel drivers seem to get lost.
Windows installed normally until it went into to the final setup.
The program will switch to another screen at this point and picked a monitor and the HDMI to TV connection.
Unplugging the HDMI cable allowed me to finish.
