Apps / Software :: Not Able To Find Change Location Function In Weather App
Mar 2, 2012
My weather app keeps telling me the conditions & forecast for Helena, Montana. I am sure it is a wonderful place, and I am thrilled to know it is now 32 degrees F outside, however I live in New Jersey. I cannot find a "change location" function in its settings. Where does the weather app get its location info from, and how can I correct it?
We are deploying several hundred win 8.1 enterprise tablets and I'd like to set the default location to our local city when users first sign in. I can't find any information on the internet about how to do this programmaticly or via the registry (or even better via group policy)
Where the weather app location / city data is stored in the registry or in an ini file or something somewhere that I can modify via a script?
I have an asus laptop with windows 8.1 and am trying to reverse the function key but when I get into the BIOS area I can find no way to change it there. Is there another method with asus or windows 8.1?
find the location of the building win.8.1 spell check database file ? I want to export it to correct/add the words inside. Checked user - app data - roaming - speller but the files inside are empty. .
I am looking to make some adjustments to my system and have been advised to use the "Change PC Settings" button on the charms bar. I do not have touch screen so all my taps are with a mouse. When I open the gear icon on the charms bar all is ok and all choices are shown. The only one that doesnt work is "Change PC Settings". When I click on it nothing happens except a small jump of the screen.
How to delete or disable that folder I accidentally created don't know how, because I want to change those folders to under D drive, how to change location folder to another drive.
Always when i install a new version of windows i change the default location of music, documents, downloads etc. Accidentally i change the documents folder to Documents without the after D: (don't know why windows let me choose this location in the first place). But I can't change the location, every time i right click on the documents folder to change the location, explorer crashes.
First I thought it wouldn't be a big problem by changing the default folder in different programs to D:Documents for example in Office. But for soms programs it's a problem, I can't change the default folder and it takes Documents which gives an error.
It's also creating random documents folders on my D partition.
How can I change the default folder for documents? I'm not talking about the library folders, but the folders underneath "This PC"
In Windows 8/RT, you can press WINKEY+PRT SCR to save a screenshot to C:Users\%username%My Picturesscreenshots. Is there a way to change this location via the registry?
I can't seem to figure out WHERE W8 stores the System Restore Points that I create so I created a 500GB Partition on an External HDD that I would like to use to save System Restore files and my question is WHERE in W8 can I CHANGE the location for System Restore?
I have The Weather app permissions set to allow it to display the weather on the lock screen. This has been working fine for some time -- up until now.
I want to change the File Explorer default opening location from the Libraries to 'This PC -> Desktop'. However, both 'Target' and 'Start In' fields in the File Explorer properties are greyed out.
I am an administrator, and as far as I can tell with my level of know-how, I have full permissions.
I just got a Surface Pro with Windows 8. My first exposure to both. I am involved in genealogy so I download the app for Ancestry.com. My subscription is worldwide so when I click on the icon on my other computer with Windows 7 it takes me to the Ancestry.com webpage. But when I click on the APP on Windows 8 it takes me to Ancestry.ca (the Canada site) not .com. I checked my Region setting as per a post I found and made sure it is set to United States instead of Canada but that made no difference.
Where and how do you access your programs in windows 8. I have been looking all day, and found nothing, if you want to run the disc clean up, I can't find it.
Alright, this might sound as a stupid question, but I'm not able to find some of my installed rograms (neither in Metro nor with the searching function at the top right corner). The only way I can find 'em is by going to the installed location. e.g. torrent
Well, last night, I had noticed that there was no desktop tile and if I typed "desktop" on the start screen there was no app for it Also, "Change PC Settings" wasn't starting. My guess is that it did that because I had a really hard time uninstalling a program so I had to try going by means of registry editing. So I ended up refreshing my computer (from the installation disc since PC settings wasn't working ) Now everything is back to normal. So all I want to know is how I can prevent this from happening again.
Metro app weather says it can't run if uac is off. Why Win 8 started giving that message, although I did have uac control off. Is there a fix other than having uac on.
I was working on desktop mode and suddenly my screen went black. After about 4 seconds everything returned to normal but when I went to the Start screen all of my application tiles were missing. Except for Desktop & Store tiles, all the others had disappeared. I tried to search the missing apps and pin it to Start but it cannot be found. They wont even show in All apps.
I don't think the apps are deleted because from desktop I can open image/audio files with Photos and Music app.
Not sure if the problem maybe a result of me accidently changing the AppData folder to visible a couple of minutes earlier.
I'm trying to install Directx 11.1 or 11.2 (either will work for Battlefield 4) on Windows 8.1 64bit. I go to control panel and search for "optional updates" but Directx 11.2 does not show up there. How can I update to Directx 11.1 or .2?
I have an issue running a program that is contained in a self extracting zip that is supposed to run automatically.
The SFX files unzips the contents to a folder on my hard disk (no problem), but then tries to run another program (installer.exe) that is located in the extracted folder.
The program fromm inside the SFX runs fine if I set the compatibility to XP manually, but the problem is that the the SFX extracts the files to a different location each time it is run.
Is there a global way to make a program (installer.exe) run in compatibility mode wherever it exists?
I did a clean install of 8.1 RTM yesterday and have a problem with Weather App. About 20x per second I get error id 10016 when I launch the app. It seems to be saying that my user does not have rights to launch "Immersive Shell" local server. From what I can see however this is picked up from defaults which do allow launch.
I've not changed any permissions as I don't really understand DCOM but do these setting look correct?
