Debugging :: New PC Build And Windows 8 Installed But Getting BSOD Due To WLAN Device?

Jul 26, 2014

I keep getting BSODs after building a new PC and installing Win 8. The error I am getting from my Intel event log says: 2000 Error communicating with WLAN device.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the WLAN drivers but am not having any luck. I have found newer driver versions but none of the driver installs take now. Seems like the driver that was installed is now corrupt, or parts of it are lingering. When I uninstall the device and driver from Windows (cause I don't need it), Windows finds it when auto scanning for hardware and then I get another BSOD.

The ethernet device that seems to be having the issue is a Killer e2200 built into my MSi Gaming 5 Motherboard.

Debugging :: Multiple Different BSOD's On New Build With Windows 8.1

Sep 15, 2014

I built a new computer for my girlfriend, which of course ran fine at my house for 4 days, and even passed 12 hours of prime95. She lives over an hour away, and since I left a few days ago, she has had multiple problems with BSOD's. It seems to occur far more often when powering the computer on, and then it often takes multiple attempts to get the pc running - but once it is running, it seems to be somewhat stable. It seems to be somewhat random whether it will power up normally.

Some basic hardware info:
Intel Pentium G3258 with stock cooler running at stock speed (3.2)
Corsair XMS 2x4GB DDR3 1333
Gigabyte GA-H81M-DS2V motherboard
Hanns-G HT231DPBU Touchscreen monitor
Plextor M6S SATA3 (6Gb/s) solid state
Corsair CX430M PSU

I am not sitting at the PC now, but I did manage to get her to send me the minidumps. However, I am not able to figure out what the error is, or even how to start looking for it. I have 6 minidumps, mostly different days, with 6 different errors. I am attaching the minidumps here. I've run them through online crash analyzers, and can't find a pattern.

Debugging :: BSOD On Custom Build?

Nov 11, 2013

I recently had a computer custom built at my local Fry's (not so local though..) 2 weeks ago.

On the second day, the CPU was BSOD hourly, and after bring it to Fry's, they said the power supply was bad, and they replaced it.

I'm still having issues with random BSOD and would rather not bring it to Fry's to have them trouble shoot it for a few days, replace the "bad" component, and give it back to me with the same issue.

My CPU and Motherboard temps average 30-35c even while gaming.

I'm beyond the "return" time frame and only have 2 weeks of build support left from Fry's.

Here are my CPU specs

Debugging :: Get BSOD When Have A Sound Card Installed Into Computer?

Jan 25, 2014

I just got a BSOD. It happened while i was in a Skype call, listening to music, and about to go into match of League of Legends.

I've actually been getting quite a few of BSOD lately. The one I got before this one was

Kernel_Security_Check_Failure. Which I also got today.

I only seem to get BSOD when I have a sound card installed into my computer. I even bought a new sound card in hope to maybe fix this problem but I still get it. I've tried a few things too, I've even replaced my ram. I actually thought it was my AMD motherboard at first so I completly replaced my mother and cpu to a intel cpu and motherboard and still i get BSOD. The only thing I have not changed out has been my 2 Graphics cards and my SSD. But I didn't start getting BSOD till i either got my SSD or got more ram, I can't remember which. But like I said, I've already completely changed out my ram.

Debugging :: New PC Build Crashing / Hangs In W8.1 And W7

Nov 12, 2013

have been having crashes with my newly built PC at various stages in setting the computer up. if my technical language is lacking.

My System
CPU: AMD FX 6300
GPU: Gigabyte ATI HD7870 OC Ed
Mobo: ASRock 970-PRO3.R2
RAM: G SKill 8G(2x4G) DDR3 1600Mhz PC12800(GS-F3-1600C9D-8GAO)
SSD: Samsung 120GB SSD 840 EVO
HDD: Seagate 1TB Barracuda
PSU: Antec NEO 520C ECO 80Plus Bronze

Windows 8.1
First noticed issues when on the initial installation of windows 8.1 there was a hang while it was showing the blue windows logo. Multiple attempts led to me reaching various stages of setting up the computer, i.e. installing all latest drivers, BIOS and firmware for the hardware and installing a number (but never all) of the available windows updates. Through out the process I experienced frequent BSOD (generally within second or minutes of logging into the user) that did not appear to be initiated by anything in particular. Hangs were frequent when attempting windows updates (happened during 'checking for updates', 'downloading updates' and 'installing updates' on shutdown). Examples of the types of BSOD experienced.

CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT
MEMORY_MANAGEMENT error
SYSTEM_THREAD_EXTENSION_NOT_HANDLED
KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
PAGED_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

Attempts at fixing the issue included fresh windows 8.1 installs (where crashes/hangs during installation off disc were experienced), resitting RAM, installing windows on HDD by itself (as opposed to SSD by itself), running startup repair tools (various times did not detect a problem or could not fix). Problems continued in various frequencies at various stages no matter the attempted fixes.

Windows 7 Suspecting compatibility issues between the hardware drivers and windows 8.1, a fresh install of Windows 7 was attempted. This has been more stable on installing drivers but on attempting windows updates the same update problems were experienced in the forms of hangs rather than BSOD, the only BSOD error that has come up on occasion is 'a clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval'. This BSOD has interrupted the installation (on shutdown) of windows updates on the rare occasion they manage to download in their entirety. More frequent crashes was also experienced after updating to the latest GPU driver. Installing the latest mobo AMD All in 1 driver from ASRock (contains AMD Catalyst Install Manager, AMD SATA AHCI Driver, AMD USB Fillter Driver) causes windows to freeze on restart at the Starting Windows page with windows logo but seems to function OK after restart.

Troubleshooting for windows updates including running check disk and windows update diagnostic tool which did not appear to show or fix issues.

Startup repair was also attempted and provided the following Root cause found: Unknown Bugcheck: Bugcheck 101. Parameters = 0x21, 0x0, 0xfffff88002f65180, 0x2. Not sure if that means anything.

At the moment the PC has windows 7 installed onto the SSD, latest lan/usb/audio drivers and microsoft security essential (antivirus) installed with only 2 windows updates installed: Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2621440) Update for Microsoft Windows (KB976902)

This appears to be stable, but attempts at windows update and installing the mobo driver causes the problems mentioned above. I have been using the current setup as a restore point.

The below minidump is within the context of the 'stable' config + latest mobo AMD All in 1 driver and the BSOD occurred while installing windows updates before shutdown.

Audio :: No Sound Output Device Is Installed - Error Code 0x000000FF

Apr 15, 2013

I have a Toshiba Satellite L875-S7110 with Windows 8 that is a few months old now, and had been working fantastic until last night. Windows did an update, and now I have a red X over my sound icon that states "No Audio Output Device is installed."

Things I have tried so far to try to fix this:

I went to the Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers. I have "Intel(R) Display Audio" and "Realtek High Definition Audio" both listed with the little yellow caution icons on them. I have tried to disable, then enable each of them seperately and both together, which had no effect. I have tried to unistall both of them, restart the laptop, and let the drivers reinstall themselves, to no effect. I have tried downloading the latest drivers from both the Intel and Realtek product sites. The one from Intel seemed to install correctly and asked to restart the computer. There was no positive change to the audio though, stil the same message. The Realtek driver won't finish installing and throws the error: "Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure!! [Error Code: 0x000000FF]"

If I go to Control Panel > Sound, under both the Playback and Recording tabs, it says "No audio devices are installed."

If I go to Recovery, to try to roll back my updates with System Restore, I get errors on ALL of my restore points with the following message, "System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed. Details: The specified restore point is missing or corrupt. Try again using another restore point. (0x81000201)"

A week or so ago I installed windows on the SSD, set everything up. I had some issues with windows detecting the HDD but once I installed all the motherboard drivers, new bios, etc., everything seemed good. Unfortunately I started hitting random BSODs quite frequently, each time a different type. I got frustrated so I re installed windows and did a more patient and methodical install of the drivers and software. WLAN Extensibility Module Has Failed To Start

Aug 4, 2013

I have bought a new wireless adapter as my old one had very poor strength and I am really impressed with the signal on this one but after a while it disconnects and then it says there are no available connections. I have to restart the adapter to get it to work again.

If I am gaming online and this happens it's not very useful and I could really do with fixing it.

The adapter is the TL-WN822N by TP-Link.

I have checked the compatibility on the vendor list and it is compatible. I installed the drivers off their website which were 64bit.

I am running Windows 8 64bit.

Network / Sharing :: High Latency When WLAN Is On

Jun 30, 2013

Whenever I turn on WLAN in my router, the whole network suffers from an incredible latency. No online game is playable, but the download speed itself is not being touched (i.e. fullspeed) and websites load - even if they're a bit slower, it seems. Once I'm switching WLAN off, it is all back to normal again.

I have really no clue about the source of this evil and due to the nature, it's actually hard to google, as you'd only find problems of people that have high latency over the WLAN devices. I'm experiencing all this stuff on my normal LAN PCs as well, though.

Here's a result from an online ping test with an american server. so, no packet loss.

--- xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ping statistics ---
20 packets transmitted, 20 packets received, 0.0% packet loss

Freeze With Wlan-card Disabled / Enabled?

Feb 20, 2013

Computer: Samsung 530U, NP530U3C-A07SE

So we got this computer brand new with Windows 7. We wanted Windows 8, and performed an clean install of Windows 8, manually formatting the partitions, meaning deleting of every recovery partitions and so on. Windows 8 booted fine, and everything worked fine, installed new drivers through Samsungs own "Windows 8 SW update"-software. Installed new updates through windows update, and everything seemed to work just fine.

But then, suddenly when the PC have been left alone for a while, and I think I can provoke the same issue by hibernate and start up again, the wifi can't connect to the wireless network, which the networks router could be found 1 meter aside. You then get the "network available"-symbol, and we can go on and try to connect to the network. The PC tries to connect for a while, and then it seems to just kill the wlan-card, like it has been disabled, and now the PC freeze. We now have to hard-reboot it, and wait for login, and then clean reboot it, and then again at login everything works fine. To the next time the PC have been left alone.

So the problem look like this; hibernation->wifi connection lost->wifi available->re-connecting to wifi->wlan-card disabled->PC freeze

What we have tried is to uninstall all wifi-drivers, install different drivers, from Samsungs site, windows pre-installed drivers, driver software-drivers and so on. Just to add, we also have this 7 series computer from Samsung, everything works fine.

Network / Sharing :: Event ID 10002 - WLAN AutoConfig And No Internet

Aug 5, 2013

It's a new HP laptop, the m6-1158. I purchased it about three months ago. When I got it, I updated the network card directly from Intel to the latest driver. When I started having issues around a month ago, I reinstalled the OEM driver from HP. When awaking my computer from its sleep, the network card would find my network but it would not connect. It would say, roughly, unable to connect. Eventually I can get it to work by deleting and re-adding the connection several times. The problem doesn't occur every time I awaken my computer, but maybe once every three times.

There have been some changes in my network. I added a wireless extender and set it up on the same SSID. I also changed my wireless security from WPA/WPA2 to just WPA2. I have seen the same problem occur on another Windows 8 laptop in my network.

When running Intel's WiFi troubleshooter, it fails on the association test.

Every time the connection fails, I get the following error in Event Viewer:

I went through my laptop, with an HP Technician this morning, I might add at a cost of 5p/minute, for 30 odd minutes. He has said that because I had gone over to Windows 8.1 and the recovery discs I made will not load, to put back in Windows 8. I have to send the laptop back for re-installing the OS, because Windows 8.1 do not have the update for my problem. Also the R.H. USB socket has a failure ID:0GAPTK-6T7716-MFPWWK-8D1Q03. I personally think that this is all what the problem is. a duff USB. Is this a cop-out???

Does Windows 8.1 having driver WHQL problems?

I only found out the problem with the usb when I tried to download a Mobi file to a Kindle for my wife. The other usb's work OK.
