I have been having the worst time with my custom built PC since it was built. I am getting random BSOD's here and there, but there does seem to be a correlation between a greater occurence when playing games. Often I can't play a high-resolution game for more than an hour or two before I crash.I heard a recommendation to try Prime95, and I get an insta-BSOD when doing the Blend test.I unfortunately am under the suspicion that this is a CPU hardware error and the CPU will have to be replaced, but I do need some form of help or confirmation before I take the next step RMA'ing it. When I install a game in Windows 7 and Windows recognizes it it dumps the game's shortcut in the Game folder of the Start Menu. That wouldn't be a problem except Windows 7 prevents the game from creating the shortcuts it would have created had the operating system not been Windows 7- things like the game's Read Me, Uninstaller & Configuration options.
I have Dell Optiplex GX260 system. I intalled Windows 7 Ultimate on that. The resolution of screen is fine but it is not supporting 1280 x 1024 resolution and videos are not playing properly. It was not taking audio drivers as well but when I ran the SoundMax drivers for XP in compatibility mode they were installed. But display drivers are not getting installed. I even tried the various driver from Nvidia for XP/Vista/Win 7, but none of them works.
Windows 7. Dell Latitude D610. I made changes in Properties (Appearance/Advanced), and somehow the task bar got huge and my icons are tiny. I've tried everything and nothing seems to work. Is there (1) some way to get my computer back to default status? (2) Which selection controls the task bar and the icons on the task bar?
I have recently bought a new computer, pre-loaded with windows 7. I hate it! It seems to me the most stupid retrograde step Microsoft has ever made. After the simplicity of Win XP Microsoft seems to have taken steps to hide everything they can and make it as difficult as possible for the user to comprehend it and....;. Why oh why have they made everything so small. I usually sit about 500mm from the monitor. Now I am getting a stiff neck peering closely to read simple print. Is there any way I can make it all bigger, as I can with Word and I.e?
I install a clients printer on my pc windows 7 and now must get the driver for her pc XP ita a HP photosmart C4183. I can get a driver but it is 299mb please this is urgent need that driver tonight because my internet speed is to slow for that download to complete tonight.....anyone please maybe find me a small driver or somehow use the windows 7 driver thats on my pc that windows downloaded for me to install on XP.
A photo editing programme that was fine in XP has overlapping instruction bars and small pale text in some areas to the point of being illegible. I've just down loaded another one and it is similar. Could this be some sort of formatting problem? XL customer files were really bad but I finally got on top of that by formatting.
How do I activate & validate Windows 7 using small manufacturer's COA?The COA is 14 digits as opposed to Microsoft's 25 digit product key. When I try entering this code it is immediately rejected.
Used to when using windows media player whenever I started it it would start playing something at the same size as I left it last time I watched a video. Now every single time I start watching a new video file it starts out in a little windowed box like 3 inches by 3 inches and I have to expand it out by dragging it out.I reloaded my pc and now it wont keep the size I like it at, is there is a option or something Im missing? Because right clicking and selecting the "fit to player" options dont do squat for me.
Can anyone tell how or if its possible to change the system font to a smaller size than is available at: Control panel / Appearance and Personalization / display..I got a big new monitor where Windows 7 windows now display with a larger font than I need for visibility.I've set the radio button for small and even under Custom DPI setting. It will not let me set anything under 100%.It now shows: 9 point Segoe UI at 96 pixels per inch.I'd probably like 8 point or even 7 point. So, is there anyway to make the fonts smaller beyond those settings
I am trying to find the registry key that will change the desktop icon size to small.
This is mainly for new users, or for the default user. I have workstations that have several people sharing them and need this for everyone.
I have looked in these locations: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsShellBags1DesktopIconSize And HKey_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktopWindowMetricsShell Icon Size I played with both these settings for myself, and the desktop icons do not change. If I reboot, the first key value goes back to 32, and the second key stays at 96. But my icons never change in size. I am looking for any way to do this in the registry. I could try copying the ntuser.dat but fear I will still have issues with paths, and other defaults that will cause the same problem I had originally.
I have been using Thunderbird for my e-mail account. Somehow, Thunderbird was updated to 10.0. Now my e-mail texts are so small that I can barely read them. I downloaded an application that allowed me to increase the size of the fonts in the listing. However, the messages are still small. I tried setting the options to a larger font but that did not work. Two questions: Is there some way to increase the size of the text in both the email list and the messages. Two, can I just remove the new version and download an earlier version of Thunderbird. I don't know what version I was using, but I was perfectly satisfied with it.
I installed Win 7RC 32 onto a 160 GB hard disk which I partitioned. I allocated about 25 GB to C: system, and formatted the rest on to a D: drive for data. I've found that this may have been a mistake, as getting program installations to default over to D: are problematic (and not recommended by Microsoft, as per some previous threads I've read here).
And so I am running out of C space, and have several programs "manually" installed over to D. Quite frankly this is a pain, and I am about ready to throw in the towel and just try to extend the C drive. But maybe there is a way to avoid?
My question is this: what's my best approach to correct all this? Specifically, I'd like (if it is possible) for all my libraries/directories to default to D: so that I can readily reinstall Windows 7 (or downgrade) the C: System drive should it become necessary. This was my original goal and hope. I was able to have this with XP, although that was some time ago and I forgot the steps.
Anyone have an good suggestions for me, or should I just extend C: and give up this idea?
I have just mounted a Samsung solid state drive 830 series in my Sony Vaio VGN-SZ laptop and have installed Windows 7 Home Premium. The screen size is too small. Maximum resolution obtainable is 1024x768. How can I increase the screen size?
Wondering what processor is better equipped to stream and play HD video to an HDMI port... AMD E350 or Intel Atom? Im looking to purchase a mini pc to attached to my TV to play HD video with VLC and stream from the net. Currently I'm looking at Foxcon, Zotac and Asus Eee pc's.
