How do I activate & validate Windows 7 using small manufacturer's COA?The COA is 14 digits as opposed to Microsoft's 25 digit product key. When I try entering this code it is immediately rejected.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have just replaced my motherboard after the original was fried by a lightning strike. I'm thrilled that the computer now is working (I'm not a computer geek so replacing the motherboard successfully was a major triumph for me). However, now I am getting messages that I cannot use Windows update since my Windows 7 does not pass the validation test. I went to the Microsoft site and downloaded software to test the validity of my operating system and (hopefully) reregister it, but was unable to. I have the product key for the software but the Microsoft program doesn't even ask for me to reenter it. How do I re-validate my operating system without having to purchase or reinstall the software?

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy dell inspirion 1545 keeps going to computer rpair every time i turn on my laptop. It then says it can not find problem and can not fix the problem and then when i hit finish it shuts down. when i try to go to system retore it says Parameter is incorrect and once i hit okay all i have is the windows 7 background picture and cant do anything but shut down comeputer and restart. Then computer repair starts all over again.. i do have the reinstallation disc. My computer is no longer under warranty

I have run RadarSync and all drivers are up to date, however when I check the device manager, the following have exclamation marks;
- Mass Storage Controller
- PCI Simple Communications Controller
- Unknown Device
I am considering installing the Manufacturers Drivers for VISTA via "Troubleshoot Compatibility" mode as opposed to the Windows Supplied drivers.
I'm looking to buy a AMD Radeon 6950, 6970 that's 10.4 inches in length or lower.I recently purchased a Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 Dirt3 addition to replace my Crossfire setup of HIS Radeon HD 5770 cards.The card ran great for a day, and then I noticed artifact tearing and constant crashing to blue screen was an immediate sign the card was bad. But I gave it the benefit of the doubt, went to safe mode, disabled the card, uninstalled the old AMd drivers, swiped the registry for AMD video clean and reinstalled drivers. Still same artifacts and crashing. So I turned off PC, reseated the card, and still same issues.I had to RMA the card, and unfortunately Newegg doesn't have it in stock anymore (I figured these cards were good because they're out of STOCK everywhere.) so it's likely by the time it;'s finished processing I'll get my refund. Because if the item is out of stocked I have two options, replaced with a product of "equal" value, or refund. I'll obviously opt for a refund though.

New Dell from Dell. I log into MS and activate Windows 7 sp1. I try to download the MSR Profile tool from Download WSRProfile from Official Microsoft Download Center I hit "continue", takes me to Genuine W Validation page at Genuine Windows Validation -Microsoft Download Center I hit "continue", "genuinecheck.exe" downloads, I run it. Window pops up, ~"Code not available. May be due to tech difficulties, or you may be running an unsupported OS. Close and try again. error code 0x80072f07." Search shows error code 0x80072f07 is windows mobile version 5 code message"Synchronization could not be completed. Try again later." Troubleshooting info. is "This error code is an Internet error that is typically temporary. Try to synchronize again later."
Search shows this error code is common with Dell machines trying to validate when downloading windows updates. This error code is related to security Active Sync used with Windows Mobile device security. But search shows many inquiries to Dell and MS about this code are from users NOT on mobile devices. The Inspiron is in my home on 4G LTE dedicated wireless connection from local broadband provider. Roommate's new HP Windows 7 sp1 laptop DOES validate, no problem, sitting right next to my machine on same 4G LTE connection.I have tried the validation procedure, both the "auto" method and alternate manual method on IE, FF, and Chrome, many times. Always -> same error.However, automatic windows updates download and install flawlessly on my Dell (validation not required) x 20 at least... BTW, I am not running an unsupported OS. This most recent version of MSR Profile tool that I am trying to download doesn't seem to be available from any other source than MS.Yes, I can upload MSR Profile tool from roommate's HP to thumb drive, and then download it from thumb drive to my Dell, but issue remains - and will come up again - downloading from MS when pre-validation is required, but fails, and download is blocked.
I have brought graphics card from friends old computer[DESKTOP]. He lost the driver cd and cannot remember its series or manufacturer. There is a sticker on it which says: GF 9400gt 512 mb. I installed the card win 7 booted up. It detects the card as standard vga graphics adapter, device manager says device is working properly gives me 1024x780 resolution. So I tried 9 series gf driver from nvidia. It says no compatible hardware detected. NVidia auto scan same result. How can I know which card actually i am using? If it is gf 9400gt 512 mb then what is the problem with driver. In device manager hardware id is like this:

I recently purchased a Lenovo K230 Desktop and installed 64-bit Win 7 Pro.
Everything works fine... but I'm a little OCD about drivers and making sure everything is up to date.
So here's my question: I found a dedicated Lenovo site with drivers to most of my devices here.
If Windows has assigned it's own drivers (which in some cases are newer), should I just ignore the drivers on the Lenovo site unless something is not working?
Example: Intel has a network card driver on the site, but it's older than the driver Win 7 provided. Is there any benefit from using Intel's driver -- which is 180megs btw (why it needs to be that big puzzles me).
So... Manufacturer drivers Vs. Windows drivers? Any benefit to going back to the manufacturer and using their drivers or just leave things as-is?
Windows 7. Dell Latitude D610. I made changes in Properties (Appearance/Advanced), and somehow the task bar got huge and my icons are tiny. I've tried everything and nothing seems to work. Is there (1) some way to get my computer back to default status? (2) Which selection controls the task bar and the icons on the task bar?

Now every single time I start watching a new video file it starts out in a little windowed box like 3 inches by 3 inches and I have to expand it out by dragging it out.I reloaded my pc and now it wont keep the size I like it at, is there is a option or something Im missing? I never had a problem until about 2 months ago when restored to factory settings, which doesn't require a Windows disc. About a month later I started getting messages all over about how Windows might not be genuine and I needed to activate it. The only option it gave me was to activate online, which when I did that I got an error.
So I reformatted AGAIN, hoping I wouldn't have the problem. Now it tells me I have 2 days until automatic activation, which I'm guessing isn't going to work because it didn't last time. When I click 'Activate Window Now', I get an error: 0x8007007B... Now right under that there is a product ID and I'm not sure if that's what I need to enter, or where to enter it.
I went to Microsoft's website and had it run its test to see if it says Windows is genuine, and it is, but I'm worried that I'm gonna run into the same problem as last time if I don't get this activated. I'd much rather figure out a way to do it online than over the phone.
I just replaced a hard drive on a Win7 machine, cloning the old drive to the new one, and it boots up fine, but tells me that Windows is no longer activated. I go through the process, but each time it tells me that the KMS server is unavailable. This machine was never in a "corporate" environment, so I don't know why it's doing this.
Is there a way (preferrably without reinstalling Windows!) that I can "force" the KMS stuff to go away, and activate directly with Microsoft?

Now I come to activate it I am having problems.I put in the upgrade code to activate assuming it would accept after also asking for the home premium key first but no go. View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought Windows 7 Upgrade when it came out, and upgraded an XP laptop. Worked fine. The disk got corrupted, though, and I had to do a complete, clean install on a re-formatted harddrive. So my Windows 7 upgrade doesn't think it's an upgrade. I tried to do the online activation -- didn't work. I tried to do a phone activation -- didn't work. Talked to MS customer service. They said I have to install/activate Xp or something first, then re-install Windows 7 upgrade. The problem is that this laptop didn't come with any disks, and I don't have any way to do that. So they said to "borrow" a copy of XP/Vista from someone, install that, then re-install Windows 7 upgrade. I just spent two full days installing Windows 7, updates, programs, data, etc. I sure hate to have to start all over again. Is there any other way to make this work?
