Oct 9, 2011In order to download the Diablo 3 Beta to my hard drive, I had to change its letter from B to E (D3 doesn't allow hard drives named A or B... sigh). When I finished downloading D3, I switched the name back to B, and now all of my desktop and start menu icons have been replaced with the white icon you get when the path is unknown (yet all of the shortcuts still work when clicked on). When I would go into the properties menu, I tried to "change" the icons back to their normal ones, but it wouldn't work (changing them to any of the standard Windows icons worked, but trying to change them back to their default ones wouldn't go). Any thoughts? It's really frustrating.

Can't Change Hard Drive Letter To Needed Letter
Nov 16, 2009I lost my Event Viewer, and had to do a repair installation to fix it. Unfortunately, during the repair install, Windows decided to rename my second HD as the D: drive... it was K: before that. Now I cannot access any of my docs, pictures, music, or videos through the normal means... they don't show up in libraries or explorer, and apps like Restorator and Sure Thing (CD labeler) cannot find them. I think that means the paths are broken..?
It won't allow me to rename the HD back into K: (it's not listed as available). I can access the data by clicking Computer > D, and I can see the data is there, but its unusable as of now. Any ideas?
Creating Show Desktop Script For Keyboard HotKey
Jul 20, 2010I've just got a Logitech Cordless Desktop EX110, and the keyboard (like most moderately priced keyboards) has numerous 'hot-keys' (like music controls, email button, internet button, calc button etc.) On the side of my keyboard is two hot keys, a 'back' button and a 'close window' button. Now in the Logitech SetPoint software it is possible to customize this buttons function. So I want to make it a 'show desktop' button.
Here's the problem, the SetPoint software is a bit restricted and gives me these (function) choices: Default Task (in this case, close window) Open Web Page Launch Program Open File Open Folder Show Custom Menu Keystroke Assignment Do Nothing So, first of all i tried Keystroke Assignment. Well that would work, just there is only one keyboard short cut i know to show desktop (windows key & D). But this program only takes short cuts that use alpha-numeric keys, Alt or CTRL keys (or in comination, like CTRL+ALT+R) - not the windows key.
Are there any other keyboard shortcuts to show the desktop? Can I make a new keyboard shortcut? But before I started asking that question i thought well ill try 'Open Program'. Found on the Microsoft website the script for Show Dekstop.scf, got that all ready. Targeted the file in SetPoint, no it doesn't work - SetPoint's 'Open Program' only works with executable (exe). So I tried, open file - with the same file, nope - the computer does nothing when that happens.
So let me summarise: Is there an alternative shortcut to Win+D? If not, is there a way of me making a new shortcut (side note, without using a third party program like HotKeyz - coz it doesn't work that way either). Is there an executable script that will show desktop. And I'd need it to be a background sort of script, it'd be crude if everytime I pressed the button up came the cmd box.

May 29, 2011Our Sony Vaio laptop has several user accounts on it. Today I got an older keyboard with a ps/2 connector at a garage sale and connected it to the vaio with a ps/2 to USB adaptor. It worked for a few minutes, then suddenly the (new) keyboard stopped being recognized. I unplugged the keyboard, and now the vaio laptop keyboard no longer works - it's not recognized. I tried the vaio keyboard troubleshooting software without success.The curious thing is that this problem only exists on this one user account. Nov 14, 2011I'm working on a computer with a RAID setup. It is 2 hard drives 500gb each showing up as 1tb in windows. Both drives show up in the bios but all of a sudden when trying ot start the computer I get a "Operating system is missing" error.
I'm trying to run a chkdsk form a win 7 64 bit disk and telling it to run on H; (system drive) but it says 'cannot open volume for direct access'.
The other drive, C: is just a recovery drive built into dell computer systems. I tried using a boot cd and running mbrfix to no avail.

Nov 2, 2011I recently upgraded my Sony Vaio VGN-AR71S laptop to Windows 7. All went well apart from two issues. My memory card slots no longer show under 'My Computer' and nothing is recognised when I insert a memory card into the slot...and secondly My built in web cam no longer works (although the mic does) Under device manager I have one yellow exclamation mark next to a USB device which I believe is my web cam and another under an unrecognised device which maybe my memory card slots.
I have tried the Sony support site and done a search on the web but so far I haven't found any drivers or solutions to my problem.

HDDs Show In BIOS, But Do Not Show In Disk Management
Oct 14, 2011just completed a first-time new Windows 7 PC build. Successful installation of Windows 7 Pro on WD 600GB 10000 system drive. Went back and installed 4 additional HDD. (2) WD Caviar Black 1TB 7200 RPM and (2) WD Caviar 7200 500GB HDD from XP system that were used for storage.
BIOS sees all HDDs, but are not viewable in Disk Management.
System Specs:
Antec Nine Hundred
ASUS P6X58D-E MOBO

However, only three are visible in Disk Management. Missing (1) WD 500GB (previously used on WinXP system) and (1) new WD 1T.

Oct 29, 2012I was working on an email Saturday when my Sony Vaio stopped working & flipped over to the black & white Vaio screen. Since then, I've been able to reboot it once, but it flips right back over to the Vaio screen. At one point, I was able to get to the Advanced Boot Options menu by hitting F8. I tried to restore to the last known good configuration. It got to the Windows logo screen, then went back to the Vaio screen, then went to the "Operating System could not be found" screen.The computer has a One Touch Web Access Without Booting Up feature.

Sep 24, 2012I was using my desktop like normal then an error came up saying that there was a hdd failure, and that i needed to scan for errors. all my files disappeared and only this error would come up. There would be hundreds of the same msg spamed on my screen. I scaned my hdd for errors using my Bios/Advanced options and no errors came up. I decided to take out the hdd and put it into my External Hdd bay to hook up to my laptop to extract the data off it.When i hooked it up to my laptop it showed up empty. I went into folder options and clicked on show hidden files and folders. Everything came up but it was grey/transparent. I then copied the files to another hdd for backup.
Then i formatted the hdd and put on a fresh new OS. Id like to mention i have a second internal drive that i use for backups but it wasnt backed up recently when this issue happen so i had to take out the main drive and use it as an external to back up onto another external drive.so then when i click on my second internal drive after the reinstall of the new OS it shows empty i have to go in and show hidden files and folders.. now they show again transparent. also i plug in my external to get the recent back up and all those files are still transparent when i move them to my desktop that is freshly OS installed they are still grey/transparent and i have to keep the show hidden files and folders to view them.. so its all my music, pics, documents etc they are all greyed out..i tried to copy my backup IE favs into my new IE browser and they wont show up because they are hiden it shows it copied to the favs folder but in ie i cannot view them if that makes any sense.

May 31, 2011Kind of a wierd one, at least for me. All of a sudded, whenever I type the letter"l" in any program, I get the blue locked screen. All I need do is hit enter or click the user icon( since it is not passworded) but does anyone have any idea what's going on here.Running Win 7 professional 32 bit.
