i have read a lot of posts and i seem to have a problem with my user name is missing a letter in it, is there any way i can rectify this cause i can't sign in. it's saying my password or username is incorrect

I recently set up a new Systemax SYX-1113 PC with a SSD (C:) for Win 7 Pro and a 1TB HDD (G:) for my user libraries and programs. I need to upgrade the HDD from a 1GB to a 2 GB drive so I cloned the 1TB (G:) drive to a new 2TB (H:) drive. My new challenge is figuring out how to switch the drive letters on the two HDDs so that Windows looks to the new drive for the user directories and program files. I tried using disk manager in Windows 7 and got the BSOD - I guess it didn't like me changing the location of the active user profile. I assume I need to boot the PC from something other than the C: drive to make the change.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIn order to download the Diablo 3 Beta to my hard drive, I had to change its letter from B to E (D3 doesn't allow hard drives named A or B... sigh). When I finished downloading D3, I switched the name back to B, and now all of my desktop and start menu icons have been replaced with the white icon you get when the path is unknown (yet all of the shortcuts still work when clicked on). When I would go into the properties menu, I tried to "change" the icons back to their normal ones, but it wouldn't work (changing them to any of the standard Windows icons worked, but trying to change them back to their default ones wouldn't go). Any thoughts? It's really frustrating.

Unfortunately, during the repair install, Windows decided to rename my second HD as the D: drive... it was K: before that. Now I cannot access any of my docs, pictures, music, or videos through the normal means... they don't show up in libraries or explorer, and apps like Restorator and Sure Thing (CD labeler) cannot find them. I think that means the paths are broken..?
It won't allow me to rename the HD back into K: (it's not listed as available). I can access the data by clicking Computer > D, and I can see the data is there, but its unusable as of now. Any ideas?

View 5 Replies View RelatedLast night, I installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 on my new solid state drive; and labelled such as drive W: (my Windows drive; am I not clever?). Because of this, my C: / drive inherently remained. All of my data on said drive is evident based on its size; however, my original user folder is missing; even when enabling hidden files and folders; and attempting to access such results in an Access Denied error. I have well over 100 gigabytes of data in said folder and can not afford to lose any of itone of the reasons that I purchased a solid state drive was to copy most of said data in the first place.

This time however, when I go to my windows.old >> users file my old user account isnt there, while the public account is. I checked my disk usage and the whopping 129gb chunk of information that was my user account still exists somewhere, taking up space in a place I cant see. Furthurmore, I unticked the 'read only' box in the file properties of the whole windows.old file and while watching the names of all the affected subfolder and files whip by I caught glances of windows.old/user/xxxxx/music, pictures etc. So theyre obviously still there, just in a much less digitally tangible way. Soo...how I can possibly retrieve these files?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was trying to get into a hidden subfolder to delete a file from a old program. It asked for admin person's. I hit Ok and it look about 10min for windows to update the folder. The problem is that after that now all my folders in my profile are gone. My music, pictures, and everything. I rebooted and loged back in but they are still all gone. How can I my profile folders back? I know there is just something I need to uncheck. I can see that all the information is still in my laptop because checking my HD space I see that nothing was deleted since I have over 50gigs of music.

Now I have seen that when the user tries to login to the account he can see a message saying that the user profile is not loaded correct manner. After that it just gets the user logged in an account. After seeing the login I have seen that Windows make the loggin for that user in with a temporary profile.

Previously when someone tried to log in all three profiles would be displayed so each profile could be selected. However this morning instead of seeing the three profiles I see two options: the active profile and a button that says other users. I select other users and I can log on to any profile so nothing appears to be missing. If I power the system down, when it comes back up I see the last profile logged on and the other users option.

Well I managed to delete the Windows.old by editing my security and user however when I log-offed, I saw another user account that I think I've mistakenly made while editing the security in the properties of a folder in windows.old. My problem is, the delete function gone! The mistakenly made user is Administrator. When I logged in Administrator, a pop-up appeared saying that it is a temporary user account.

I managed to create an administrator's account which is visible but I can't see the other user accounts at login or in the user accounts control panel. It seems that the system has reverted to a very old restore point. I have tried using the restore points (recent ones are displayed, but I get the 0x80070057 error). My data seems to be intact.I have Windows and all programs stored on an internal SSD-drive and the data on an internal harddrive. I also have a recent Acronis image on a NAS. I am hoping there might be a way to solve the problem without using the image.I have tried booting in Safe Mode, but the restore points are still not functioning.
EDIT: I remembered that I had used a new USB-stick which would not eject correctly, before turning off the computer. I tried reinserting the USB-stick before restarting the system and... everything went back to normal.
I was messing around with trying to move the default location for my User Folders. I was following Brink's guide: User Folders - Change Default Location. I had a secondary drive error (where the folders were to be relocated to), requiring a format. Prior to doing so, I changed all the folders back.Now, my "Contacts" folder no longer has a "Location" tab in its properties, so I am unable to move it back. I went into regedit to the following location:

and was able to find the "Contacts" folder. It was incorrectly named (some jumbled mess of what appeared to be random numbers and letters). I renamed it to "Contacts" and changed the Data to "%USERPROFILE%Contacts".After doing all this, the "Contacts" folder is displayed in My Computer and correctly pointing to C:UsersMe - but there is no location tab in its properties so I cannot move it again to a secondary drive. what I need to do to restore the "Location" tab?

View 1 Replies View RelatedEarlier today I turned on my Toshiba laptop (Satellite P855-S5200) and got some sort of error screen, and then it brought me to a screen asking if I wanted to do a system repair or start windows normally. I chose system repair, but then it seemed to get stuck in that process (It was taking forever and nothing was happening), so I turned off the laptop (I know, big no no), booted in safe mode, and did a system restore to a restore point from about a week ago. The "starting Windows" screen came and went, no problem. Everything seemed fine till I got to the User Selection screen (the default blue one with the little hummingbird or whatever). Then it just sat there on that screen. I could see the hummingbird and the little squiggly lines, but there were no buttons to click my user. I just let it sit there, and after about 5 minutes, the user names popped up, and I was able to continue using the computer without any problems, no other speed issues whatsoever. It now makes me wait every time, always about 5 minutes, before the user names pop up. It does this when I restart the machine and when I try to switch users.

I changed the values in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionProfileList in order to move the default user locations to my second partition. I then created a new user profile but when I try to login I get the message 'The User Profile Service failed the login'. When I set these values back to normal, new accounts work fine but I really want my user accounts on the second partition.

When I boot into the standard user, I am prompted by UAC for the admin password for 4 programs to start. All the programs are ASUS utilities that came with mymotherboard.I have checked the permissions of the programs and the User group has full control.Also, these programs do not show up in the MSCONFIG startup tab. Kind of a wierd one, at least for me. All of a sudded, whenever I type the letter"l" in any program, I get the blue locked screen. All I need do is hit enter or click the user icon( since it is not passworded) but does anyone have any idea what's going on here.Running Win 7 professional 32 bit.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just built a new computer which I am trying to set up identical to two of my present ones. The first terabyte hard drive is divided into 5 partitions, C thru G. Windows 7 is on C and Windows XP is on D. The other three partitions are categorized storage. I also added two more terabyte drives which are supposed to be H & I. Since my CD/DVD rom had assumed "H" in Windows 7, I reassigned the drive letter "J" to it. When I installed what was supposed to be my "H" drive, it showed up as "I". When I attempted to reassign the drive letter "H" to it, "H" is not on the list of available drives, So I tried renaming it to "Q" and then back to see if "H" would show up. It didn't. I went ahead and put the final drive in It was supposed to be "I" drive and indeed it came up correctly as "I" drive. So everything is in order now except for my "H" drive which still remains as "Q" until I can figure out how to make the "H" drive letter become available again. This si important to me since I do regular synchronization between my other computers and the drive letters need to be matched on all of them.I am not on the new computer right now, but on my last built one which has the same setup. I didn't seem to have any problem on this one since the drive letters are all on order. I've never had a lick of trouble getting them right on the XP partitions.What do I need to do to get "H" back on the list of available drive letters?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI previously shared my iTunes library from my desktop computer which was running Xp x64 Professional, and accessed the library through a M: drive that I could access on my laptop and other computers in the house. I set up the M drive following these instructions found here from LifeHacker and here from Microsoft previously.
I decided to try the same with 7 and everything goes according to plan until I get to the part where I go to add the new "M" drive and I can not click to "Assign the following drive letter" followed by letters that I can assign this new drive. I can only select "Mount in the following empty NTFS folder." Is anyone familliar with this issue and tell me what I am doing wrong?
I just got a couple of new HDDs to make notebook backups (clones) on. When I first formatted each one, using a USB dock, I set the drive letter of each one to U. Everytime I change the drives, the drive letter changes itself to E. I change them back to U but they change themselves back to E the next time I put them in the dock. My 'C' drive is a SSD.A second 2 TB HDD was assigned 'E'.I will choose, where possible to load apps onto 'E' because of the size, restrictions of the SSD. So far I've been hold back but have installed MS Office 2010 on 'E' and the Canon software for a Pixma multi-function.I have now installed 3 more, 1 TB HDDs (from older PCs) and one of these is 'D'.I'd like to change the 2 TB drive to 'D' and change the existing 'D' to 'E'.Microsoft issue a warning that some windows apps will have problems if a drive letter is changed but don't specify any.If I do change the letters, will this cause problems with the path to the Office suite? If problems do arise, does reverting to the original lettering resolve things - or is the registry well and truly screwed by then? Would getting a registry backup done and having it on the desktop be of any use?
