View 2 Replies View RelatedI had a big blip that showed up on the screen telling me that to lengthen the life of the battery, I needed to change my power. It gave me 2 choices - one was Dell recommended. No explanation so I chose the "recommended" setting.I discovered that even though I was still plugged in, my taskbar showed me operating on battery. When I opened the pc today, it was still on battery even though it was plugged in.Later in the day, it automatically switched over electricity.I'm assuming this is the way it's supposed to work but I've done searches on Power Settings etc and if I wanted to revert back to the way I was using the battery I can't find it. I even did a "restore" and it didn't change.Where do I find the setting that refers to this selection?
View 2 Replies View RelatedJust recently i have noticed that the battery icon is missing from my taskbar. I have already right clicked on the taskbar and went under 'notification area' and selected for it to always be displayed. I have also tried clicking on 'turn system settings on and off' but it says it is off and does not allow be to turn it on. It kind of looks like the icon is missing or there is no icon for the battery power. I have a Windows 7 laptop.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my Acer Aspire 5672 from win xp to Windows 7 hm prem 32bit. I realised that the keybd and touchpad fails to function when I have the battery unit installed, but they work fine as soon as I remove it. Before the upgrade, I run the microsoft upgrade advisor program and it did not flag the battery. Secondly, I dual boot with ubuntu 12.04 and the keybd and touchpad works well in the ubuntu platform except that it receive very minimal charge. The laptop runs on the minimally charged battery for a short period.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI allowed the battery on my Acer notebook to run out causing Windows to shut down and lock the current files. As I needed the files urgently I asked a professional to recover them, which he did. Later I connected the mains power and recharged the battery. Now the notebook keyboard will not allow me to enter my password when demanded. The mouse and touchpad work. I have used F8 to try to restore the previous status.
View 4 Replies View RelatedCan't believe what you read nowadays anymore. I bought a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 to replace an ailing optical laser mouse that's on its last legs, and on the package it said that one "AA" battery would last for one entire year without replacing. What it meant was, it would have took until the next spring before it's time to replace the battery.Apparently, the mouse doesn't think like that, it appears, and when I was looking down at it, there was a red warning light indicating that the single battery had already been exhausted from use. Between surfing the web and playing some Team Fortress 2 now and then this is more than just a "mobile" mouse.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running 64-bit Windows 7. Last night my computer was fine, and I just booted up today to find that whenever I run programs, they don't show up on the taskbar. I have two monitors, one is my laptops screen and the other an external one. If I drag the applications to my laptop screen, they show up on the external screen, but if they are on the external screen, they don't show up at all.
The external is set to my main display.
Any ideas on what's going on?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI added my user folder as a toolbar to the taskbar for quick access to its subfolders and files. I had set some of rarely-used system folders in my user folder (such as "Desktop," "Searches" etc.) as hidden, and selected "Do not show hidden folders, etc." in Folder Options. These hidden folders are not shown in Windows explorer's window, but they show up on the taskbar's toolbar. Is there a way to keep them hidden on the taskbar as well?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've read that the shortcut to access items in your task bar is windowkey + (1-9) depending on the placement of the app from the start button. I've tried it, but no luck. When I press the combination, nothing happens. Does this work for anybody else? Am I doing something wrong? I love the idea of this working, but it does me no good until I get some kinda success with it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've just got a Logitech Cordless Desktop EX110, and the keyboard (like most moderately priced keyboards) has numerous 'hot-keys' (like music controls, email button, internet button, calc button etc.) On the side of my keyboard is two hot keys, a 'back' button and a 'close window' button. Now in the Logitech SetPoint software it is possible to customize this buttons function. So I want to make it a 'show desktop' button.
Here's the problem, the SetPoint software is a bit restricted and gives me these (function) choices: Default Task (in this case, close window) Open Web Page Launch Program Open File Open Folder Show Custom Menu Keystroke Assignment Do Nothing So, first of all i tried Keystroke Assignment. Well that would work, just there is only one keyboard short cut i know to show desktop (windows key & D). But this program only takes short cuts that use alpha-numeric keys, Alt or CTRL keys (or in comination, like CTRL+ALT+R) - not the windows key.
Are there any other keyboard shortcuts to show the desktop? Can I make a new keyboard shortcut? But before I started asking that question i thought well ill try 'Open Program'. Found on the Microsoft website the script for Show Dekstop.scf, got that all ready. Targeted the file in SetPoint, no it doesn't work - SetPoint's 'Open Program' only works with executable (exe). So I tried, open file - with the same file, nope - the computer does nothing when that happens.
So let me summarise: Is there an alternative shortcut to Win+D? If not, is there a way of me making a new shortcut (side note, without using a third party program like HotKeyz - coz it doesn't work that way either). Is there an executable script that will show desktop. And I'd need it to be a background sort of script, it'd be crude if everytime I pressed the button up came the cmd box.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi have a windows 7 computer that i got second hand from a computer repair place. it's a new install, but not genuine apparently. all this computer is used for is surfing the net on a large monitor/watching netflix/hulu/Internet.so, had a few bsod problems with netflix and similar, but nothing big, until monday. on monday, it suddenly wouldn't take any input from the mouse after the first few clicks. sunday night it worked fine, the most recent change was an installation of dvd decrypter on friday. however, monday it will load up, allow me to click past the "not genuine" screen, and maybe click one or two more things, then any time i click above the taskbar, there is no response. the weirdness is that i can do anything from the taskbar. open/close new programs, access the windows menu, etc. but if i click an open window, it deselects it, like i had clicked an empty portion of desktop. this also occurs if i click an icon on the desktop. the keyboard works fine, and it's part of a wireless set.
i tried cold-booting it, and a new mouse, neither worked.finally, i did a system restore to about 3 days ago. this seemed to restore complete functionality. however, i just found out from my wife that its' exhibiting similar symptoms-- she will go to netflix and everything will work fine, until she got to the page where something was playing, at which point it wouldn't accept commands again.
I checked and tried many different things. I can not get the set point software to show my G500 mouse at all. I'm trying to uninstall it now and download the older 5.2 software and see if that works.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just bought a Gateway computer yesterday with Windows 7 preinstalled on it, and last night I tried to wake it from sleep but when I did, it didn't show the taskbar, icons or start button. All I could see was the background. I tried the "ctrl+shift+esc" method to fix it, but when I hit those keys nothing happened. I'm at a loss, and I don't want to return the computer!
