I'd like an icon to show up on the taskbar whenever I insert a USB thumbdrive. Then I can click this icon to safely eject the USB. I'm not talking about the notification area. I'm talking about the taskbar where open programs show their respective icons.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy laptop, running Windows 7, suddenly started giving me an error message with code 10, and says "You need to format the disk before you can use it, do you want to format now", every time I insert a thumb drive or an SD ram card. When I go into disk management it shows that they are both "raw"n but when I insert them into my desktop running XP they read fine and disk management shows them as fat32. Why would Windows 7 suddenly start reading the fat32 thumb drives and SD ram cards as Raw? How can I get it to read them, as they read fine on other computers? I also have an external cdrom/dvd drive (because Windows 7 won't recognise the internal cdrom either), and also have an external hard drive that work fine.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi have two external hardrives, well a laptop hardrive and a desktop hardrive in enclosures, and they were working fine with windows 7, but then i installed a virtual disc program virtual clone drive and now they won't show up at all.
anyone else have a similar problem or know what may have happened, i already uninstalled the virtual clone disc program but it still won't load.
I'm running 64-bit Windows 7. Last night my computer was fine, and I just booted up today to find that whenever I run programs, they don't show up on the taskbar. I have two monitors, one is my laptops screen and the other an external one. If I drag the applications to my laptop screen, they show up on the external screen, but if they are on the external screen, they don't show up at all.
The external is set to my main display.
Any ideas on what's going on?
How do I get my external drives to show up in my computer as a letter and not in the printer and devices.... Some of my external drives works fine. Everything was working fine 3 months ago. Everything works fine on my laptop...
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo the notification area in Windows 7 is customizable in that you can select to show all icons and notifications or selectably "Icon and notifications", "Notifications only", "No icon or notifications" for the programs. There is one option missing, showing only icon but not notifications.
How could I work around that? There are some programs I want to show on the notification area for their icon but I do not want to receive the notification bubbles of them and there are no options in the programs themselves to turn them off.
Of course to my logic if there is option to show notifications but no icon, there should also be option to show icon but no notifications. Well, apparently the new name "notification area" is made to resemble this restriction, it's made for the notifications and the icons showing there are extra. But what if the user wants it to behave otherwise?
am trying to do a backup of my Win 7 system drive (C, but the backup utility is saying that it must backup by non-system drives (E: and H, which happen to have "System Volume Information" folders on them. They are not system drives. E: is my main utilities drive and H: is my games drive.Somehow, Windows thinks they are system drives, when in reality they aren't.Any ideas on how to change them? When I go in to Disk Management, they are not showing as system drives. They are all partitions on the same hard drive, but there are other partitions not included in the backup.

The BIOS sees both hard drives and the CD and DVD drive and the Windows Device Manager shows the extra hard drive and both optical drives. When I click the folder in the task bar (Libraries) I can only see "C" drive and no optical drives either. When I click on the CD drive I get the right menues for it, but it does not work at all. If I put a CD in the drive it locks up the system and I have to power off the computer before I can eject it.

I used Ultimate Windows Tweaker, and checked "Disable window previews (thumbnails)", and it seemed to work, but now, the peskies are back.
in my way to customize my windows 7 sp1, i change some icon system like:atmeter.dllpnidui.dllSndVolSSO.dlllike many others time i became ownership of these files, rename these like .bak and put new file in C:WindowsSystem32Rebbot system and no icon show in system tray. I verify in panel active/disactive system icons and all these are inactive and i cannot change status.So i comeback and restore original dll but the problem ramain.

If I download something and set the location to desktop the icon will not show up on my desktop. If i click on look in folder containing it is there. If I delete it and restore it will then show up on my desktop. I can drag things out on to the desktop and they will show up. It seems that only things I download to the desktop do not show up.

I had set some of rarely-used system folders in my user folder (such as "Desktop," "Searches" etc.) as hidden, and selected "Do not show hidden folders, etc." in Folder Options. Initially noted that it wasn't showing in 'my computer' and so assumed I had driver issues and sought to update them from Dell's site. After doing so there was still no change, but noted that It was appearing in 'device manager'.I even tried updating the USB hubs from the Device Manager, and it states that they are all up-to-date with the correct drivers. Both external hard drives that i have tried has worked on other PC's so i assume that mine is the issue.
