Is there a way to make only certain programs show their text in the Windows 7 taskbar? Under normal circumstances, I still want to use icon view, but some programs use their title bars to show information that I would like to see. Is there a registry tweak or anything to do this for those specific programs?
I'm running 64-bit Windows 7. Last night my computer was fine, and I just booted up today to find that whenever I run programs, they don't show up on the taskbar. I have two monitors, one is my laptops screen and the other an external one. If I drag the applications to my laptop screen, they show up on the external screen, but if they are on the external screen, they don't show up at all.
i am running at a resolution of 5760x1080 and notice that the mouse over preview on aplications pinned to the task bar have changed to text. this problem has been going ov for some time. when i change my resolution back to 1920x1080 (16x9) it works just fine. i am using the aero theme so that should not be the problem. i think that my computer thinks i have less ram than i do. i have 10 gb of ram, soon 16, and i am only using 30pct if im not doing something graphics intense.
how to turn the address taskbar into a search engine text bar? Basically, we want to enable the user to type in keywords and have that passed to a search engine that will show the results in the browsers.
I am having trouble getting Windows 7 to accurately report exact searches for text containing multiple periods (i.e., "x.01.001" format). I need the system to report ALL documents in a specified directory that contain the exact text input but I'm finding that windows is reporting documents with only partial matches (i.e., y.01.001 or z.01.001).
I am using "" around the specific text and have the following folder options selected in the search tab:
* Always search file names and contents (this might take several minutes)
* Include subfolders in search results when searching in file folders
* Don't use the index when searching in file folders or system files (searches may take longer)
* Include system directories
choose the right filter settings or modify my input commands to get a more accurate response?
I've had this windows 7 laptop for less than a year now, with no problems at all. I7 processor, good speed/graphics etc. Recently however (about a week ago) I turned it on and although the internet works, very specific (and all seemingly windows related) problems are reoccurring and making the laptop unusable. The first thing i notice when I start it up (I'll write it all because I can't seem to google the right solution for this) is that i get a black screen after entering login details for about 2 mins (used to be very quick). Then it loads and i notice the wifi icon doesn't show connected or anything it just has the loading circle over it and it stays like this (even now as I'm clearly on the internet typing this).
No gadgets launch but eventually i get my desktop. This is were it starts getting annoying because, if I open windows update the window opens blank and just freezes, not the whole computer just the update window, same for msconfig, system restore and other windows programs such as windows media player. I can view installed updates (and I'm thinking removing one of these might be the solution as it was around the time I updated windows that this started happening) which is strange as it seems some sections aren't working at all but some are.
To top it off I turned it on about 5 days ago and had the "this is not a genuine windows product" in the bottom right of my background and thought "that's annoying I'll have to fix it tommorow". So i turn my laptop on the next day, ready to fix it having done nothing, and everything is running perfect, i can see my gadgets, I can open WMP and i can look for updates. Restart my computer later that evening and i'm back to the point of nothing working and still there today. I've done a full system virus scan, a boot scan, a defrag and everything.
I have pinned the internet explorer to my taskbar. When I click on the IE pin on the task bar, it brings up an IE window, but the window covers the IE pin on the taskbar, and I cant open another one.
I have Windows 7 Home premium. All of a sudden tonight my taskbar hides when I do anything else; web, apps, etc. It is not set to "auto-hide." What can I do to get it to stay visible all the time?
Trying to figure out a way to display thumbnails in certain folders (ie: Photos & Videos) and icons in others. Unfortunately it seems this isn't possible, as the only option I've found is to always show thumbnails in all folders or always show icon's.

I have my display setting so that my desk top icons are just right but when I open programs the text is almost too small to see, especially in Incredimail the email list is very small but when I open an email file the text is fine as I can enlarge it from a drop down pannel. I have windows7 and my monitor is 23.5" Samsung. Everything else is ok just the very small text is driving me mad.
I recently upgraded a Packard Bell desktop to Windows 7. It was originally XP. When I installed 7, it didn't look the same as my laptop that had 7 pre-installed when bought. On the desktop, it doesn't show previews of windows on the taskbar when scrolled over etc. Can I make it the same as the laptop?
I logged onto my computer this morning and instead of getting the normal taskbar and being able to do what I want, my Libraries folder popped up and I got no taskbar. I can't use any keys or shortcuts on my keyboard. Only the mouse and open programs through the folder window. There was no error message in the booting process and it was fine last night.
I'd like an icon to show up on the taskbar whenever I insert a USB thumbdrive. Then I can click this icon to safely eject the USB. I'm not talking about the notification area. I'm talking about the taskbar where open programs show their respective icons.
I added my user folder as a toolbar to the taskbar for quick access to its subfolders and files. I had set some of rarely-used system folders in my user folder (such as "Desktop," "Searches" etc.) as hidden, and selected "Do not show hidden folders, etc." in Folder Options. These hidden folders are not shown in Windows explorer's window, but they show up on the taskbar's toolbar. Is there a way to keep them hidden on the taskbar as well?
I just bought a Gateway computer yesterday with Windows 7 preinstalled on it, and last night I tried to wake it from sleep but when I did, it didn't show the taskbar, icons or start button. All I could see was the background. I tried the "ctrl+shift+esc" method to fix it, but when I hit those keys nothing happened. I'm at a loss, and I don't want to return the computer!
As you may see I am connected to the internet but I cannot see the signal bars on the taskbar.my laptop information:Toshiba Satelite M645 S4070Windows 7 Home Premium. 64-bitI also cannot do a system restore of the check disk error i am seeing.below is an image of the results:[CODE]
Recently after I finished editing a .txt file in WordPad, I closed out of the program, but then immediately opened it back up because I forgot to change something. The program loaded, and I could see it and it's preview on the taskbar, but it would not show up on my screen. I hadn't installed or modified anything very recently also. Then later that day, after opening up Google Chrome, it did the same thing. I would not show the window on my screen. When I minimized and maximized the window from the taskbar, the animation showed the window going to the far right hand side and off the monitor. When I pressed "Windows Key +Tab" it showed the window, but wouldn't bring it to the front again. I'm not sure what is going on with my computer.
I am Every time I need to redo my system, I totally reformat my hard drive, re-install the OS and then re-install all my software. Maybe this is the only way to do it but is there a way to re-install my OS (Win 7 Pro) and not have to reinstall the software? In other words, I guess I am talking about a partition for the OS and the rest for the software? If this is possible, then by only installing the OS, how will my programs show back up? Maybe I am not getting the picture but someone told me this can be done, thus saving me much time.
