right click COMPUTER icon, MANAGE has SHIELD by it and will not launch
UAC (security) at lowest level.
CAN access through:
start>administrative tools>computer management
but still wondering why the shield and non launching the VISTA way
(right click 'computer' icon and select 'manage')
In a (successful) attempt to correct WGA registration problem I did a Windows Repair.
I used Windows Backup and saved it to my external hard drive. Now I have almost identical files and folders there and on the now visible Recovery drive. TBUH, when making the backup several options appeared and I checked one without being 110% sure it was right.
Did possibly I do something not right? What need I do to correct anything wrong, including which folders and files I may safely delete? What advice do I need for future?
Whenever I single left click on an icon, file, or folder a repetitive popup appears asking if I want to send whatever I clicked on to the recycle bin. The item is sent to the recycle bin regardless.
View 5 Replies View RelatedFor some reason I only receive interference through my speakers when my IO shield is installed. I've tried aligning the tabs to contact the motherboard connections, but that generates a lot of noise through the speakers. I tested it outside of the case and installed in the case (without the IO shield) and there was zero noise. Isn't my IO shield supposed to prevent this? So, I have the shield installed, and of course there is still a miniscule, but annoying amount of noise through the speakers. It's definitely the IO shield!Drivers are all current, mic and line in are muted.

So recently my computer wouldn't start up and was saying "BOOTMGR IS MISSING | PRESS CTR+ALT+DEL TO RESTART" and then I just left the computer on for a couple days and forgot about it. And just an hour ago I started it up again just seeing if it would work, and it did. It started up and I was really happy. But I got a D-Link wireless network adapter that I connect to the tower because I can't get an Ethernet cable to reach up stairs, So I have to connect to my wi-fi. BUT when I click on "Connect to a network" nothing happens. I can't Set up a new connection or network, and when I click on the network icon on the bottom bar nothing happens. I do NOT have the Windows 7 Ultimate Repair DVD. So I can't use that.

View 3 Replies View Relatedwhen I try to open a program It happend when I was associating a blank icon, one like in the photo, with the game it used to be, which I had re-downloaded but the icon showed as if the game was no longer on the computer. When I done this, all of the icons on the screen and on the 'start' screen when you go into 'all programs' turned to the game icon. I then deleted the game and restarted the computer as 'last known good configuration' or something like that and after it took an unusually long time to start up (about seven minutes), all the icons showed up as in the ones shown on the screen shot above.

There is no password setTHere is just one user/account which is obviously also the administrator. (the Account tab shows also HomeGroupUser$, but I guess is a default option...)the point is that when I switch the pc on, I have to click on the icon of the user account in order to see the desktop. View 5 Replies View RelatedI am unable to run any program in my accessories folder as run as administrator located on my desktop from the Start menu-Accessories. However if i go through windows explorer on my hard drive i am able to run as administrator any program in the accessories folder and the UAC shield is present. Why am I unable to run as administrator from the accessories folder in the start menu from my desktop. I noticed the UAC shield is missing next to run as administrator when I right click a program for options. This is only in the start menu-accessories folder from my desktop. When I right click a program in the accessories folder and select run as administrator I get this message. This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action Please install a program or if one already installed create an association in the default programs control panel. This does not happen from the hard drive.I tried and copied a shortcut example the command prompt which has the uac shield next to run as administrator option. When I move it to the accessories folder that is in the start menu on task bar I noticed that when i right click the uac shield disappears and unable to run as administrator. Not sure why it is happening from my start menu on my desktop. Other programs in the start menu have the UAC shield next to run as administrator when I right click the program. Does anyone know why the UAC shield is missing next to run as administrator on programs in the accessories folder (only from the start Menu) and not on the accessories folder on the hard drive and how do I fix this

We managed to disable it in misconfig now as it wasn't an OS app does it matter that it doesn't run because all I could find was it just checked for software updates and as most of our favourites do this anyway - is it worth getting it back on again.?

4. windows media player will not show the video window, only the playlists. it does play the file, but i cannot see the video. now, i could see the video if i left the window small and the window is not the active window now all these happen after i reboot or turn the computer off and on again. the problems seem to resolve themselves after about 10 days. but that is awful and i hate it. i have maxpc cleaner and stopzilla protection. i had not downloaded any software, i did use the restore point right after the first instance (which was three months ago). now i did spill beer on my key board and was forced to get a wireless one. Logitech k250. if that is the cause, is there a solution without buying a new keyboard.

I did an SFC Scan and it says windows have found corrupted files but cant repair them.i did a virus check but no virus. I have found that when clicking on 'Computer' in the Start Menu or the icon on Desktop ; there is no response and I cannot gain access to computer on on that disk.I have run various malware, anti virus programs but all seems clear I have formatted and reinstalled Win7 and the games from DCS. At first all was well but the problem has returned . I should have mentioned that last week the problen extended to 'Task Manager' ans 'Waste Basket' ; neither would open to a double click.The fact that the problem has returned makes me believe that a virus is high on the list of suspects but I cannot locate it[CODE]

Now suppose when it tries to shut down it cannot install the update and stalls on "Reverting changes". Suppose you are lucky enough to be able to manually restart your computer and everything is fine, but the little shield is still over shut down. Is there a way to remove the updates you have installed before shutting down?

All went well until I got to Step 23 in Bleeping Computer website (.../virus-removal/remove-security-shield). I deleted the HOSTS file and downloaded Windows 7 HOSTS file. However, I can't save it in the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\HOSTS file. I unchecked the hide system protected files but still can't find it beyond "drivers."
