My son (I have got him to join up) has a custom self made build he does a bit of gaming on and had this annoying error pop up on boot # -5 and it went into a larger screen etc on. We managed to disable it in misconfig now as it wasn't an OS app does it matter that it doesn't run because all I could find was it just checked for software updates and as most of our favourites do this anyway - is it worth getting it back on again.?

However if i go through windows explorer on my hard drive i am able to run as administrator any program in the accessories folder and the UAC shield is present. Why am I unable to run as administrator from the accessories folder in the start menu from my desktop. I noticed the UAC shield is missing next to run as administrator when I right click a program for options. This is only in the start menu-accessories folder from my desktop. When I right click a program in the accessories folder and select run as administrator I get this message. This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action Please install a program or if one already installed create an association in the default programs control panel. This does not happen from the hard drive.I tried and copied a shortcut example the command prompt which has the uac shield next to run as administrator option. When I move it to the accessories folder that is in the start menu on task bar I noticed that when i right click the uac shield disappears and unable to run as administrator. Not sure why it is happening from my start menu on my desktop. Other programs in the start menu have the UAC shield next to run as administrator when I right click the program. Does anyone know why the UAC shield is missing next to run as administrator on programs in the accessories folder (only from the start Menu) and not on the accessories folder on the hard drive and how do I fix this

I did an SFC Scan and it says windows have found corrupted files but cant repair them.i did a virus check but no virus. For some reason I only receive interference through my speakers when my IO shield is installed. I've tried aligning the tabs to contact the motherboard connections, but that generates a lot of noise through the speakers. I tested it outside of the case and installed in the case (without the IO shield) and there was zero noise. Isn't my IO shield supposed to prevent this? So, I have the shield installed, and of course there is still a miniscule, but annoying amount of noise through the speakers. It's definitely the IO shield!Drivers are all current, mic and line in are muted.

i have my Hp g7 -1219wm notebook and being the type of person that I am i wiped the hard drive clean and installed my windows 7 ult 64 bit (did this with my acer laptop) everything was going fine knew i had to get the wifi drives but it wont install. It gets to the installshield wizard then crashes and get the error message saying this program didnt install correctly.

Now suppose when it tries to shut down it cannot install the update and stalls on "Reverting changes". Suppose you are lucky enough to be able to manually restart your computer and everything is fine, but the little shield is still over shut down. Is there a way to remove the updates you have installed before shutting down?

All went well until I got to Step 23 in Bleeping Computer website (.../virus-removal/remove-security-shield). I deleted the HOSTS file and downloaded Windows 7 HOSTS file. However, I can't save it in the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\HOSTS file. I unchecked the hide system protected files but still can't find it beyond "drivers."

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy daughter got a Security Shield virus on her laptop and I managed to remove it using this BC thread: [URL]. The laptop uses Windows 7. The removal seemed to work fine, although one slightly odd thing (compared to the thread's advice) was that I didn't have to change the LAN settings/Proxy server when I booted up in Safe Mode - the virus was preventing internet access but didn't appear to be doing so by the Proxy server change. So I was able to access the internet perfectly well when in Safe Mode with Networking.
I downloaded everything I needed using the laptop wirelesly and scanned/removed the 2 security shield virus files using malware bytes. Then, when I rebooted as normal in order to complete the process and update the HOSTS files, I couldn't access the internet wirelessly. The router is working fine and when I connect via ethernet cable the laptop communicates fine with the internet. It just refuses to let me connect wirelessly.
I have tried:
- Checking all firewall options in McAfee (though I guess this wouldn't enable a wired connection either if it was the problem)
- Removing and reinstalling the wireless device (via device manager)
- Deleting and resetting up the wireless profile
Just not sure what to do next....
I used to have Hamachi and Hotspot Shield, weeks ago, 'till I shut down my computer and rebooted. I got a black screen after log-in. So, this happens whenever I do one of these actions, and restart/shut down system:>LMI Hamachi is installed >LMI Hamachi is uninstalled >Hotspot Shield is installed >Hotspot Shield is uninstalled And as stated, system is them shut down/rebooted, proceeding with black screen error.The only way I can sometimes fix this is by:>Going in safe mode, SAFE MODE IS ALWAYS ACCESSIBLE, and then going to various system restores, and then doing the "recommended system restore". Otherwise won't fix.Weird though, has never ever happened with anything else, just those both, which modify networking processes I think.So, I am facing a decision. I need Hamachi. What can I do to ensure no more black screens, while having my computer safe?What is wrong with my computer? Or is it UAC Settings? By the way, I run Avast! Free Antivirus and make weekly full scans, as well as a few pre-boot scans every month. I've NEVER had a virus.
