Mar 30, 2011I'm running Windows7 Ultimate with 64-bit and my Installer file has an error and will not install updates, can I just repair Windows7 from the cd without losing everything I have on my computer now? It was an update from Vista to Windows7 Ultimate.

Aug 22, 2012My computer is loading up to the point the windows logo starts to flash before changing over to the chose user screen and then just frezing. I have tried runing the boot fix and it came up as unable to repair, i have tried restoring to most recent restore point and got the same problem. Has no issue booting into safe mode.

I would like to insert the CD-ROM (full retail version), drill down to Upgrade, and, instead of reinstalling Windows 7 Ultimate, click on Repair, but I do not see this option on any branch of the installation procedure. Where is the Repair option found, or is it missing from the Windows 7 CD-ROM?My machine is mainly working, but autochk at startup fails and there may be hidden problems that need to be fixed. System Restore (possibly corrupt), Startup Repair (inadequate), sfc /snannow (unsuccessful), chkdsk (inadequate), and a System Repair disk (could not make) are not options. I thus need to use the installation CD-ROM or else download something, if I only knew what. I hope to run a repair utility without resorting to a clean install that would wipe out my hard disk. Please enlighten me.

Mar 13, 2011I have two laptops, that are at the same DOMAIN (not workgroup) at work. One runs Windows 7 ultimate 32 bit and the other Windows XP professional 32 bit (with SP3). There, a domain controller takes care of all authentication issues and I have no problems sharing files from the one to the other and vice-versa. Question is, what happens at home/other place where there is no domain controller available? I have a wireless modem/router and I can, indeed, "see" one computer from the other (in the network folder of course).
But I cannot access the one from the other and I get an error message when I try to, with the usual "so-and-so is not accessible. you might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Not enough server storage is available to process this command." (when trying to access the XP PC from the Windows 7 one). I take the last line to mean that there is no domain controller (which is correct).

Jun 28, 2011i recently got a computer from my aunt, and decided to put windows 7 on it. Before I installed it, I put in a Geforce 8800 graphics card and a (2nd) cd rom drive. Jan 15, 2013I have a computer at work that my boss is using for autocad designs and it's been giving him problems for a while. He believes it's a problem with motherboard and wants me to replace it. I am not so sure it is a problem with the mother board in the first place. When he shuts down the pc it performs a loop-restart few times before it boots up into windows. I had updated all my drivers, performed full antivirus scan and nothing showed. I had performed elevated chkdsk command and everything is perfect. I had also performed a elevated sfc /scannow and got a response stating windows resource manager was unable to fix the problems, I had restarted the computer and performed same operation few times to ensure it could not fix it. I am out of options and I do not want to replace his motherboard considering I would have to reload all his engineering programs he uses such as mathcad autocad inventor programs that cost a lot and is a real pain in the you know what when you are transferring licenses (new motherboard is considered a significant upgrade that will change bios version, I spoke with several technical members). Computer he is running was build by his son-in-law. Here are the specs:

Feb 3, 2012I have a Toshiba Satellite C655-S5132 that just shut down & now will not boot Windows 7. Just goes to black screen w/blinking cursor then goes to 'startup repair' (which I'm postiive this is a virus of somekind) & will not allow me to do anything. Just repeats itself. I downloaded Windows 7 repair to a CD-R, chgd BIOS settings to CD/DVD to boot first, saved changes, and will NOT pull/boot up from disc. I've tried 2diff repair discs, both do not work. 'F8' does not do anything for me, not able to get to 'safe mode'. Computer is only 2yrs old.

Oct 12, 2009I've tried to upgrade from Vista Ultimate 32 bit to 7 Ultimate 32 bit numerous times now, all with the same result: a BSOD during the install process, which I get during (what I think is) the final step called "Transferring files, settings and programs."
The installation compatibility test warns me about my Nvidia drivers, which I've attempted to both remove and upgrade to the latest version, but that doesn't seem to make a difference (I still get the warning during the compatibility check, and I still get the blue screen). I'm not sure that's even the problem, either. I can't (easily) remove/replace the video card, since my mobo doesn't have onboard video, so I'd hopefully be able to avoid having to do that.
The error in the blue screen is a nebulous "REFERENCE_BY_POINTER" message. The technical information is "STOP: 0x00000018 (0x00000000, 0x86478030, 0x00000002, 0xFFFFFFFF)."
As a zip file, I've attached the setup log, error log, compatibility report, and what I think is the setup dump file, all of which I found in C:$WINDOWS.~BTSourcesPanther (I believe that's the right place to look). The logs complain about BthMig problems, which I think has something to do with bluetooth, but I don't have any bluetooth peripherals. I've uninstalled things that I thought might have some bluetooth things in it, like MS Intellitype (maybe a stretch), but again, no difference.
System specs: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, on an Asus M2N SLI Deluxe, with 4 GB of ram, and an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT. The hard drive I'm installing (upgrading) on has about 100 GB free.
