I need a clean Shell32.dll file for Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (English)
While using IconPackager an error occured and left my icons in disarray. Yes, I know what I'm doing; No, SFC didn't fix it; No, I don't wish to do a repair install.
3 hours of frustration later, I cannot find one reliable download for this file anywhere.
I have XP x86, Vista x86, and Windows 7 x64 systems on different PCs. I use the icons frequently to customize folder icons; and I noticed that the SHELL32.dll and imageres.dll in Windows 7 have less a variety of icons (that I like personally) than does the Vista and XP O/Ss. Can I copy the Vista file: C:Windowssystem32SHELL32.dll to a scratchpad, change the name to SHELL32-V.dll and then copy it into the Windows 7 system32 folder as: C:Windowssystem32SHELL32-V.dll ? Since I predominantly use my Windows 7 machines, I can then utilize more folder icons from the Vista/XP platforms on my Windows 7 computer folders when I go to the folder properties/customize panel tab. Will it work? I�m NOT a techie.

Unfortunately, the theme is now messing with things such as Microsoft Word (Page colour is always grey instead of white) and a calender organization software. I'll show a picture of what I mean: Other than this, everything seems to look good, but this program doesn't have themes you can change. So basically is there a chance I can use an original shell32.dll files for example and have this organizer program use those files, while everything else uses the custom shell32.dll?.

View 14 Replies View RelatedDuring an attempt to install a custom theme, I needed to replace explorer.exe, shell32.dll and a couple of other files. I used the reg hack to take ownership of these files.I managed to change explorer.exe to explorerBACKUP.exe and insert the modified explorer.exe file......However, when it comes to shell32.dll in the system32 folder, I can rename it to shell32BACKUP.dll, but when I try to drag the replacement shell32.dll file into the system32 folder, I click OK on all the permission requests, a window pops up saying it is copying the file there, but the replacement file does not appear in the system32 folder.Also, having realised it won't let me replace the file, I tried to rename shell32BACKUP.dll to shell32.dll but it won't let me! It appears to work, i.e. no errors, but the name does not change.The same thing happens on one of the other files I have to replace (i forget the name of it now) which is also in the system32 folder. what I need to do to replace the shell32.dll file?I'm running Windows 7 home Premium 64 bit.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two laptops, that are at the same DOMAIN (not workgroup) at work. One runs Windows 7 ultimate 32 bit and the other Windows XP professional 32 bit (with SP3). There, a domain controller takes care of all authentication issues and I have no problems sharing files from the one to the other and vice-versa. Question is, what happens at home/other place where there is no domain controller available? I have a wireless modem/router and I can, indeed, "see" one computer from the other (in the network folder of course).
But I cannot access the one from the other and I get an error message when I try to, with the usual "so-and-so is not accessible. you might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Not enough server storage is available to process this command." (when trying to access the XP PC from the Windows 7 one). I take the last line to mean that there is no domain controller (which is correct).
I just installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my Dell Optiplex 755. It originally had Windows Vista Business. 64 bit OS. After Win 7 Ultimate installed I immediately want to access files or folders and I'm hit with a Explorer.EXE
Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.So after doing some research I re-installed a second time this time formatting the drive first. Then installing Windows 7 Ultimate. As soon as I get to the desktop I received the same error as mentioned.
I'm running Windows7 Ultimate with 64-bit and my Installer file has an error and will not install updates, can I just repair Windows7 from the cd without losing everything I have on my computer now? It was an update from Vista to Windows7 Ultimate.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought the full retail Win 7 Ultimate and trying to upgrade Windows Vista Ultimate to Win 7 Ultimate, both 32bit. I get to the Expanding Windows files to 21% and nothing. The program is still running and stuck at 21% but after waiting 3 hours I shut power off and Vista was reinstated. Why can't I get past 21% Expanding Windows files? I want to use the upgrade because I have a ton of programs on my Vista and don't want to spend days reinstalling them.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've tried to upgrade from Vista Ultimate 32 bit to 7 Ultimate 32 bit numerous times now, all with the same result: a BSOD during the install process, which I get during (what I think is) the final step called "Transferring files, settings and programs."
The installation compatibility test warns me about my Nvidia drivers, which I've attempted to both remove and upgrade to the latest version, but that doesn't seem to make a difference (I still get the warning during the compatibility check, and I still get the blue screen). I'm not sure that's even the problem, either. I can't (easily) remove/replace the video card, since my mobo doesn't have onboard video, so I'd hopefully be able to avoid having to do that.
The error in the blue screen is a nebulous "REFERENCE_BY_POINTER" message. The technical information is "STOP: 0x00000018 (0x00000000, 0x86478030, 0x00000002, 0xFFFFFFFF)."
As a zip file, I've attached the setup log, error log, compatibility report, and what I think is the setup dump file, all of which I found in C:$WINDOWS.~BTSourcesPanther (I believe that's the right place to look). The logs complain about BthMig problems, which I think has something to do with bluetooth, but I don't have any bluetooth peripherals. I've uninstalled things that I thought might have some bluetooth things in it, like MS Intellitype (maybe a stretch), but again, no difference.
System specs: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, on an Asus M2N SLI Deluxe, with 4 GB of ram, and an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT. The hard drive I'm installing (upgrading) on has about 100 GB free.
I'm trying to upgrade a computer from Vista Ultimate (32 bit) to 7 Ultimate (32 bit) and I keep receiving this error message:
"This installation disc isn't compatible with your version of Windows. To upgrade, you need the correct installation disc. For more information, check your computer's system information. To install a new copy of Windows, restart (boot) your computer using the installation disc, and then select Custom (advanced)."
Now, I double-checked all the system requirements and the system is compatible with 7.
I installed Win 7 and if i try to open my computer of click on desktop and open up screen resolution etc. I get "Explorer.exe -Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I did a search but could not find anything related to this error in Win 7. I have found some others attached to Win XP but have to do with the installation of some software which prevents access to explorer.exe. When I boot in safe mode this issue does not appear...

I'm trying to move a file that is larger than 4GB in size from my main hard drive to an external, and getting the error message in the title. The consensus on the other post was that the hard drive must have been a FAT format, and that too fix the problem either split up the file or reformat the hard drive as NTFS.Well, by all accounts, my computer is telling me that my external hard drive is ALREADY formatted as NTFS, but I'm still getting this error. I would prefer not to split up the file, but other than that, what are my options?
