The problem I believe is that on the �change sharing options for different networkprofile page (Control Panel>Network sharing) I cannot turn on the Network discovery and File saring options. click on the two enabling buttons forTurn on File DiscoveryndTurn on File & printer sharing I then find the save changes tab greyed out

I can't seem to turn on my File and Printer Sharing and Network Discovery options from the Network and Sharing Center. I go to the sharing options, and click turn on to both of them. Then after I confirm by pressing save, if I come back they've returned to their previous turned off position.
I tried a few things and have searched online for the last hour or so, but I'm willing to follow directions if someone is more used to this problem than I am. I also searched these forums but sadly the word "on" is one of the main points of this and words shorter than 3 letters are rejected from the search engine, so the results weren't really related.
I have 2 PCs connected to a Win 2003 Ent server domain (not R2 - this is the original 2003 version), although the Domain was originally setup using Win2K My laptop, which connects wirelessly has network discovery turned on and no probs. My desktop (Wkstn1), however, does not allow me to turn on the service. I'm on a domain not homegroup.
Both Win 7 installs were upgrades on Vista Ultimate, and both PCs have pretty much the same software. I'm using ESET Nod32 v4 on both (server has no AV). I was at one time able to turn on Network discovery (share drives and printers on the domain). Now no go.
The server has DHCP and DNS enabled on a static IP, and AD of course. I reserved IPs for the 2 PCs on the network. The gateway is a hardware firewall router (Watchguard) which also has a static IP.
I've tried resetting the Wkstn1 account (and resubmitting credentials) to see if that improves things but no. Group policy updates fine.
Any ideas?
On my desktop computer, when I go to Network & Sharing Center and select Change Advanced Sharing Settings, Turn off network discovery and Turn off file and print sharing are both selected. I click on the Turn on options and then click on Save Changes but when I come back to this screen, they're turned off again. I can't print from my (wireless) laptop now.

The problem is that turning the windows firewall off turns the pulic/home file/printer sharing and network discovery on.Turning on or off these settings starts the firewall.Disabling the firewall service permanently allows file sharing and network discovery for both public and home network,which cannot be turned off.I tried uninstalling kasperksky but nothing has changed.

I'm on Windows 7.I googled and found one specific solution, which was to make sure several services were set to automatic and started. All but one specific service would not cooperate " FUNCTION DISCOVERY RESOURCE PUBLICATION".Alas, I googled this fix as well, it came up with a dozen suggestions, from creating a new windows account, launching applications via admin privilege, resetting nstat stuff via cmd...even copying over some new keys in the reg, and even editing one called BFE....all failed.I had this same problem on my other laptop, but samsungs running windows 7. This may have happened because a couple weeks ago, I tried to save a particular .pdf file as a .prn file, did not know what I was doing, and now .prn seems to be the default setting. I cannot figure out how to get it corrected.

I was trying to connect my PS3 and Laptop together and one of the steps is to turn on network discovery. Every time I try to click on the network discovery and save changes, it automatically goes back to off. I've checked my services that are running in services.msc and it seems that everything is running fine.

The configuration of the desktop PC is flawed - The Network Discovery property is OFF. All attempts to set the property to ON fail.

Now I add a third, and I can't get file sharing to work. I can SEE files on that third computer from mine, but it won't let me move files to that computer from mine, and it won't let me save them! It says I don't have permission. My userID on this computer is "Katie" and that computer also has a user account called "Katie." The folders in question DO have sharing set (by right clicking on them) so that "Katie" has read/write permission. Why don't have have write permission, then?

These computers are connected to BSNL wifi router (ADSL) which has intermittent internet connection. I have also installed 2 printers on the desktop computers, one being deskjet (Windows 7) and the other laser (XP comp). On the XP system (desktop) i've enabled printer sharing.
PS: desktop computers are connected by RJ-45 and laptops by WiFi Issue :
successfully configured other PC for printer sharing. Now the issue is as i said earlier due to intermittent internet connection remaining 3 computers are unable to print laser printer when the net is down however it works fine.
What can be done..?? Also on the XP sys (desktop) i would also like to enable a particular folder to be shared.

But when I go to copy a file from the XP computer to the Windows 7 computer I get the "Cannot Copy: Access is Denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use" message. I can copy files from the Windows 7 computer to the XP computer.

I have 3 windows 7 computers and one windows xp machine that acts as our media server (With over 9 tb's of data). Me and my brother (Windows 7) can connect to the xp machine no problems, doesn't ask for a password or anything just does it, but I can't connect to my brothers and he can't connect to mine. So basically I'm trying to share my printer on my desktop pc connected through the usb as so I can print from my laptop.They seem to connect to each other and both are in the same homegroup. But I keep getting the can't connect to printer error. But it works if I do it the opposite way which is connect printer to laptop and network the printer through desktop. So it seems to be the settings or something on my desktop PC.The only folder I can access over the network on my desktop PC is the public folder. All the other folders say "access is denied". View 3 Replies View Relatedi have a small web server running Fedora 15 and Apache, and I have a "pictures" folder on a windows machine that I have mounted from my /etc/fstab file, with "rw" access, however when I try to use a freeware PHP script in this particular folder, it doesn't display properly (won't show subfolders).I created a new folder directly on the linux machine, and the script works fine there.
Here's the setup:D:SharedPics - windows ntfs folder, shared as \winserverpics, and this share is mounted as /var/www/html/pics with RW access (although the username/pw I supply in .smbcreds file has "full" access.) PHP script does not work here.All linux permissions show rwxr-xr-x for files and folders, and owner is "root:root"I copied all of the files/subfolders from the "pics" folder into another folder, directly located at /var/www/html/pics1. file/folder permissions are exactly the same as the pics folder. PHP script works fine here.File and share permissions on the windows machine are set for read/write/modify for "Everyone", but it seems that the samba "service" is receiving different permissions. I've checked the smb.conf file and not been able to find anything that would cause "read only" permissions.
On the road can I just click disconnect from the internet icon to be safe from intrusion or do I need to disable homegroup and file sharing etc?Upon arrival can I just reconnect by clicking the same icon and entering the password? I plan on unplugging her ISP cable from her modem and plugging it into my router. Will this work?

I followed all the steps in the tutorials across the web including this link, How To Share Files and Printers Between Windows 7 and Vista - How-To Geek, and the closest I could get is the Vista accessing one of the 7's. All the PC's see each other, it's just when I try to access files over the network with the 7's I get a "You don't have permission to access...contact your network administrator" error. I'm the admin on both computers and I really can't get by this. It's so frustrating, I have been doing this for like 3 days already.Just a bit of info, I do have BitDefender 2011 on both the 7's and not the Vista. Although it might not make sense, I thought this might be the issue of why the Vista can access one of the 7's, I disabled the service through msconfig -> services and startup. Also disabled the firewall on all. It still didn't fix the problem.I actually figured it out. Although I enabled sharing with "everyone" and set permissions to full control, "everyone" was not showing up under group and users in the security tab. I just added that and voila.
