so im about to do a system restore on my desktop computer Windows 7, x64 and before im going to restore it i want to make a recovery disk for it, so i go and find the program in the start menu but when i try to open the recovery program it doesnt open
View 2 RepliesI recently purchased an Asus k52J laptop but decided to return it soon after. Unfortunatly even though the laptop is in new condition they won't accept it because I deletd the recovery partition like an idiot! I asked if I just restored to factory settings if they would accept it then, they still refused because it wouldn't have the recovery partition, I tried to create the recovery partion normally but it wont work since Windows 7 tries to backup the entire C drive instead of just the boot files and it inveitavbly runs out of room on the hard drive. Is there anyone way to recreate that original recovery partition or at least something that will fit in 19 gig partition?

Do I have to format the drive with data on it to convert both drives to being a Dynamic Disk? I don't have a backup drive to move the data to whilst I create a Dynamic Disk so hopefully the answer is no?

I was in the middle of creating a brand-new VHD container for my Windows 7 installation when I mistakenly entered the incorrect VHD file size of 200 GB instead of 20 GB. Seeing how I didn't have time left since I was late for an appointment, I dediced to just shut off the machine in the middle of the VHD creation (200 GB). I learned from this mistake because thats 200 Whole GB of data I lost to use as "Free space".Now, when I came back, I found my HDD reading only 285 GB of free space is available. I have a 1 TB drive (real value= 931 GB) that has 443 GB of space taken already by files. The VHD that I interrupted was 200 GB, but I interrupted the process.Now, I don't see the VHD file AND it took all 200 GB of free space that I had. I still have the same amount of file usage of 443 GB (right-clicked the drive and saw used space) and it was indeed 443 GB. And, the weird part is, that it only showed that 285 GB was left.I tried everything from disk cleanup to chkdsk to Hidden files to no avail.Is there any way I can recover my lost free space due to my actions of shutting down PC during VHD creation?

I want to access the command prompt to try some potential solutions that I have read about on the internet. I have made a Windows 7 recovery disk using my other acer laptop which also has Windows 7 installed. When I use the recovery disk and it has loaded the files etc it just brings up a black screen and the cursor. I tried booting my acer laptop from the recovery disk and it worked fine. why I am getting the 'disk read error - hit ctrl, alt and delete to restart' message?

I attempted to use my recovery DVDs but after taking 10-15 minutes to boot it loads to a screen with a graphic (wallpaper) and stays there.It doesn't tell me to load the next disk, it doesn't give me any kind of menu, does not accept any kind of input (including ctrl-alt-del).
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy hard drive crashed on my laptop. Before It crashed, It gave me a hard drive warning of imminent failure, and gave me an option to create recovery disks. I ended up creating 11 disks from the option. I installed the new hard drive and the BIOS reads that it will boot from the internal optical drive first. When I insert the first CD and start then computer, it continues to read "Operating system not found". When I look at the CD in another computer, it reads three files and one folder. The first file is an icon file which reads "Setup", the next is a "Media" bin file, and the last is an autorun setup information file. The last is a folder that contains various other backup files. My computer did not come with any copies of windows.

Anybody know why it happened and how to fix it?
We just acquired a new laptop with Win7 HP preloaded. One of the first things I did was try to make a System Repair CD (Start/All Programs/Maintenance/Create a System Repair Disc). The CD burning process seemed to go normally. When I tried to run the disc, it seemed to load normally until it got to a screen with the "streaks in the sky" wallpaper and then it stopped. There were no menus, messages, or anything except the wallpaper. I made two discs using a name brand with the same result. I know disc quality used to be an issue but I didn't think this was so these days among the name brands.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI made a WinPE Emergency disk for recovery, I also made a partition backup of my system which I put on a USA 1TB external drive.Nothing is wrong with my system but I just wanted to check to see if I could access the backup image. But when I boot from the CD I get past the 'Windows is loading files' page, then to a different page with the EaseUS lgo, but the load ba only goes 1/8th of the way before my computer reboots itself.The same thing happens if I use the EaseUS Linux version of the CD.Could it be an error made during the burn process?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWent into the Windows 7 control panel to make a 'system repair disk' (boot disk), just in case I ever needed it. Making the disk went OK, with Windows 7 telling me it had successfully finished, and to label the CD.
I then put the boot CD into my DVD drive to make sure it worked OK. Computer boots from the CD and Windows 7 says it has started loading files. Then the pretty blue background screen started (just like the one in the F8 repair console), and then there was a long pause and then I get the error code shown on the photo below. Clicking OK reboots the computer, and no repair options ever load.
I made two separate boot disks to rule out a bad CD, but still get the same error #
This is a brand new Dell computer, both DVD drives work fine, and burn CDs without problems.
i bought a wiped comp on ebay, it's a dell latitude d800. it originally had xp on it, i'm trying to boot win 7 ultimate. problem is it has not been partitioned at all, when i turn it on it says "no boot sector on hard disk", then "no bootable devices--strike f1 to retry boot, f2 for setup utility" i tried going straight to the boot menu on startup and loading from the dvd drive, but it is saying the same message as before.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy dad and I are working together trying to fix these problems on his HP Pavilion P6277c Win7 machine. We finally decided that a complete wipe and reinstallation of the OS is the only way to go. It was so fargone that we had to use Knoppix just to back up files to an external drive. (I don't know how it got this way; I can only guess a bad driver installation because it seems like it was after a printer driver was installed that this started.)But there are three recovery disks, and the first one is blank. He made the three disks when he got the computer, I'm guessing using HP's automated program, and when we tried to start the reinstallation, the first disk is just nothing. We put it in another computer and it said "Blank medium."
(I'm going to use this opportunity to vent, because it's infuriating to me that HP refuses to provide a normal reinstallation disk, and instead uses these "Recovery" disks that don't work and include the same bloatware that comes with it. Ok, now I'm back to being civil.)We have the Windows 7 install disk for my computer because it's custom-built and I bought the license separately, but it's the OEM copy from Newegg and we really don't know if the license stuff is going to let us install on another computer. And that won't include the drivers. It's a possible solution that we're going to try, but it's not optimal in my opinion
I was playing around with Wbadmin from the cmd of my recovery disc. Whilst it works perfectly from the cmd in the running system, I could not get it to work from the cmd of a recovery or an installation DVD.I thought that would be neat to image a defunct system so that the guys could save their data from the imaged VHD.The command I used is:WBADMIN START BACKUP -backupTarget:f: -include:c: Where 'f' is the disk to where you image.If you have a boring moment and want to try it on your box, I would be interested if anybody could make it to work. My daughters computer crashed so she took it in and the it professionsal stated that it was her operating system and if she had the disk she could restore it. So i did, now i keep getting "recovery c disk space low" error. I have read through some of the suggestions on disk clean up but and follow the instructions but its not working. View 1 Replies View RelatedHave a neighbor who has an HP Pavilion dv4 running Win 7. The warranty is only 1 yr. and, of course, the HDD went belly up at <2 years. HP sent him recovery disks for both Win 7 (64-bit) and the recovery driver disk. The Windows recovery disks appear to work fine; took over 1.5 hours to put the system back, but when he puts the driver disk in (and I tried this, too), the head sounds like it's repeatedly searching for something, can't find it, so after 2-3 minutes, just stops. I then told it to "skip" the driver disk and restart.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to fix my mums laptop for her, it's an Asus X5DIJ operating on windows 7, she has only had it a few weeks but her trial month of anti virus had run out and she was having a few probs with it so I tried to restore it to an earlier point as i thought she might have a virus, it took over an hour to do this and appeared to have frozen so i switched the power button off!!!! i now realise that was a big mistake as when it restarted i was getting a whole load of error message with missing .dll files and not being able to do a lot of things so i tried undoing the restore but it wouldn't allow it as it said restore was still running, i also tried a different restore point but it wouldn't allow that either... I then tried the repair computer options at the boot menu but it didn't work either so I thought i might as well just restore it to factory settings as she hadn't had it long enough to have put much on it anyway.... the recovery disk gets to 32% and then spits the disk out with this message Failed to restore disk from the Asus Recovery DVD Error code is :-3 I have tried it a few times and this is what happens each time, i have also tried just putting the next disk in (3rd out of 4) but it just reboots and wants to start the whole process again.I have the number to call asus support but they are closed today, also the recovery disks are not supplied by the manufacturer but instead on initial start up you are asked to make your own but i didn't do that as my cousin has the exact same laptop so I used his disks..

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron M5110, I'm using windows 7 ultimate but the recovery Disk is driving me crazy, it keeps on bringing up the out of space warning and then it will only automatically clean up maximum of 2MB. I have read many forums about this and tried everything but nothing seems to work and keeps on filling up the free space automatically. It's affecting the computer's perfomance, it is stopping the internet pages from uploading properly, I cant chat or sign in to Skype, so basically the computer is useless to me except for intertainment. What can I do to solve this problem, I have run out of Ideas and I'm just an amatuer at computers.
