Jun 25, 2012I receive e-mails with jpegs attached. When I click on the attachment, it will not open automatically, I have to open Photoshop first.

Sep 22, 2012I am using Windows 7 together with Windows Live email, which has been working ok until of late.My internet provider is Yahoo and emails in there are ok, but I prefer Windows Live email however this will not work when downloading emails as an error message comes up saying the server is in error and one has to reapetedly click on receive emails until they are all downloaded,surely Windows email should work no matter who your provder is can someone enlight me as to why BT Yahoo fails with Windows live emails.

Dec 5, 2012I am trying to trouble shoot my boss' laptop. We have tried to set him up on Windows Live to use while he is at home and on the road. We have a server and it is setup/configured on his laptop correctly as it works EVERYWHERE else besides his home. I am guessing it is a Firewall or Router Setting issue. Since I don't go to his home, I am unable to trouble shoot it there - His family has an IPAD an ITOUUCH a personal computer and another laptop and they all send and receive mail fine. It is just my boss' laptop - Windows 7 - Home Edition - 64bit - Dell. Thinking maybe I need to change the port # in the settings on Microsoft Live. BTW - we do have him set up to use the Exchange by logging into our IP - but he just cannot seem to get the hang of doing that - even though i have everything shortcutted and instructions on the desktop...Also have had him just use Log Me In - and he doesn't like the small screen..

Jan 29, 2011I cant be positive that this is solely a Windows 7 issue, considering that files can get lost all the time on any system but, just recently, a good majority of my jpeg picture files have randomly disappeared. There are a few folders that are still in the usual place (Pictures Folder). As for the missing folders, they would appear after I use the computer search, however, when I try to open them, I get a pop-up that states that the shortcut has been modified/moved and my only option is whether or not I want to delete it. I looked under Recent Docs and the missing files show up; the latest one thats been modified was earlier this month when it was still accessible. I've even tried a system restore (from before the modification dates) and the Unerasure program, which I found out the hard way is a total sham. Is there any way to recover these? I really don't want to lose a chunk of nostalgia

Sep 22, 2011I notice since upgrading to Windows 7, Explorer shows some quirky behaviour compared with the XP version.My current irritation is when I open a folder containing (say) 500 jpegs that were in filename (ascending) sequence, the folder opens quite quickly and I can see the file icons, but I get a message 'Searching for items...' and a progress bar at the top of the window which takes up to a minute to complete. The end result is always the same... the files are now sorted into descending sequence.It seems to be the case only for jpegs, only when sorted on filename, and only when 'Large Icons' were selected. Even then it only seems to display this behaviour when the folders contain a lot of files (maybe more than 200 jpegs).And it doesn't seem to matter whether or not the folder has recently been opened.I note that if I click on the 'X' next to the progress bar, to stop 'Loading', there isn't a problem.The thumbnails have already been drawn, so what's going on during this process? And why the inversion?

The same thing happens when I try and save a jpeg using the Snipping Tool, as well - the image is just gone! However, if I try to download a new image without changing the date and name it the same as the image that vanished, it won't let me do it because the name is already in use. So it appears that the image is still within the folder, but I can't get access to it.

Jul 15, 2012From a fresh start up of the computer, I can get my thumbnails to generate any where on my computer, the NAS, or the USB attached to the NAS. However, after a short period (not specific, can be 5 mins or 30 mins), the USB drive attached to the NAS will no longer generate thumbnails, however, everywhere else still does (ie local files or even NAS files).
I have multiple machines, and it happens on this machine only (brand new only 2 weeks old, fresh windows 7 installed only 2 weeks ago).
I am using Windows 7 64bit Ultimate, but so are the other 2 windows 7 machines, and they do not forget to show thumbnail previews after a little while.
- "Always show icons, never thumbnails" from folder options is UNTICKED. - tried all options from here Thumbnail Previews - Enable or Disable - Windows 7 Forums (with everything set to enable thumbnails)
What seems to happen is that it suddenly forgets that thumbnails are enabled, but only for that specific drive. Using the link above, it should always be the first example "EXAMPLE: Thumbnails Enabled in Windows Explorer" but when it decides to stop working it becomes "EXAMPLE: Thumbnails Disabled in Windows Explorer", however, it only effects that one specific USB device attached to my NAS.
It has to be a Windows 7 issue on this machine only, as all my other Windows 7 and XP machines always show thumbnails. As far as I know, all the Windows 7 machines have exactly the same software loaded (I re-formatted them all about 2 weeks ago when the new machine was built).
If I restart the computer all thumbnails are working again until it no longer likes me.
Random BSOD Screen And DMP Attached
Nov 5, 2011I'm have a "random" crash, that occurs at different times, sometimes when in IE, othertimes in Word, and other times when doing nothing! Or simply don't initialize. Sometimes the computer crashes but maintain the screen, only freezes all. Other times the BSOD comes. When system re-starts, try the "initialization recovery", but nothing. I have installed (formated) the Windows 2 times (last this week) , it's a fresh install, Windows 7 retail and updated to SP1, x64. Drivers are all updated and all devices have their drivers correctly installed. It's a clean system, with Avira (antivirus) and no overclock or something like. Normal use. I used memtest86 for 10 hours and all it's ok.

Mar 1, 2011Swapped out a Belkin N Series router with a newer model (3 of the 4 ports were not working). After doing the install of new router, per there directions, My 2 Dell Laptops Can't connect to the Dell Tower (that has my printer attached to it).
Had no problem seeing the desktop when I clicked on "network" on either my work laptop (running win 7 pro x32 or the wifes running vista sp2 x32 home Premium). But Now neither can see the tower.
Nothing else was changed, all setting were set the same. Thought Dells could talk to each other via RF signals, no need for routers.
Can't Boot If USB External Drive Attached
Dec 12, 2009We just bought a WD 2TB My Book Elite external hard drive. When we boot the computer into Windows 7 and plug in the USB cable, the drive is recognized and assigned a drive letter. Everything looks normal--we can access the drive, read files on it, copy files to it, etc. However, next time we power up the computer, if this drive is attached, the computer won't boot. The Dell BIOS splash screen comes up and sits there for a while, then the screen goes black--and absolutely nothing else happens. If we then disconnect the drive and start the computer again, it boots normally. The external drive has the latest firmware and software installed, and we have the most current BIOS installed.

Several BSOD Errors; Seven Forums File Attached?
Jul 24, 2012I've been having a lot of BSOD's since i installed my new graphics card. I thought it was the graphics card itself, so i exchanged it for a new one - the problem still persists. I also uninstalled all the drivers, and try'd new ones. I even try'd some of there BETA drivers - still nothing.Who crashed says it's a driver issue, so i'm guessing that's what it is. Considering I've run several diagnostic tools to see if my hardware was the issue.
