New Router - Can't See Desktop Or Printer Attached
Mar 1, 2011
Swapped out a Belkin N Series router with a newer model (3 of the 4 ports were not working). After doing the install of new router, per there directions, My 2 Dell Laptops Can't connect to the Dell Tower (that has my printer attached to it).
Had no problem seeing the desktop when I clicked on "network" on either my work laptop (running win 7 pro x32 or the wifes running vista sp2 x32 home Premium). But Now neither can see the tower.
Nothing else was changed, all setting were set the same. Thought Dells could talk to each other via RF signals, no need for routers.

Have spent hours trying to google and find soultions to getting an XP printer to print via a home network on a Windows 7 PC that has a HP 1022 printer attached via USB. When I started out I could access the XP machine over the network but not vice versa, but can't even see it anymore.

The printer, HP Photosmart 2575 is connected in another room to a PC with Windows XP and I cant get it to show up in Windows 7 at all.
An Ethernet cable runs from the PC in the other room to my router in my room.
Also, when I managed to get it working on Windows Vista previously, my god it was slow performance.
Shall I install the printer drivers on this machine, and if so, how do I set the compatibility mode?
If anyone has any questions to ask me, let me know!

My laptop recently crapped out, so I removed the HDD and connected it to my desktop. It says that all my files are there based on size, but I can't see/ access all of them. It is a SATA drive, directly connected, everything seems to be working fine, except I cannot find the files it says are there.

I have a Laptop and a Desktop system.I have installed windows 7 on both the systems.I have a printer.I use internet on both the systems via Wireless Route i.e. connected to a broadband internet service without any problems.Currently I use printer separately connecting to either systems if I want to print any file.So far no problems. But now I have two options to connect a Printer as a network Printer:1. Shared Printer2. Connected Via Wireless RouterI have successfully shared the printer to a system and have used the printer from other. But there is a problem that I need to keep my System (Desktop) on all the time I want use the Printer. So I need to know the Proper Settings to connect a Printer to a Wireless Router so that it can be accessed from both systems without keeping any of my systems on all the time.To do that I need to know step by step settings because I have tried a lot but nothing happened.

I have a LaserJetprinter with a bad USB port, and I want to connect it directly to my laptop using the ethernet port. Since there is no internet at this location, I have been using the USB port.If I connect the printer directly to my laptop what type of cable do I use (crossover?) and what kind of port settings do I use (TCP/IP?) and how do I set this up correctly?

I recently built a new desktop computer and installed it with Windows 7 since our old xp desktop had crashed. I am now trying to setup our wireless network similar to the way it was on the old xp desktop but cannot seem to figure out how to do it on windows. The basic setup would be: usb card (internet soure) ---> Desktop ---> ethernet cable to router wirless access for laptops etc. This was fairly easy on xp. All I had to do was enable ICS on the verizon card and then run the little network setup wizard on xp and boom the router was broadcasting internet. Now unfortunately windows 7 doesn't have that little wizard and I simply cannot figure out how to create the same setup. I enabled ICS on the verizon card but can't seem to get internet access to the router after that.

Had two Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit computers with wireless connection (Linksys router) to a Lexmark X9575 printer with no problems. Moved, got Verizon FIOS with a Ultraline 9100EM router. Was able to get (with a lot of hassle) computer 1 to wireless print. (Can't say at this point exactly what I did but the problem was with jobs being stuck in the printer queue. Had to restart the spooler several time and has worked since.) Wireless indicator on printer is full green. I cannot get computer 2 to install a wireless (or even a USB) printer.
I have tried everything I know to get it to work, Uninstalled with Yourununstaller - Super mode, (many times) downloaded new 64 bit driver, gone thru install process (many times) Goes to end of install process, says printer is ready for use, but does not work. Tried "Wireless Configurator" also, no go. Control panel - Devices & Printers shows icon with yellow triangle & !. (Says "Series 9500") Properties show "Manufacturer" and "Model" as "Unknown". Seems that there is no driver for this printer. Windows update has no driver for this printer.

I have two computers running W7p that I want to access when I'm away from my office. I am able to use remote desktop from inside my home network on either computer. I am able to access one of the computers from outside with my router set to forward global port 3389 to host port 3389. I am guessing that what I need to do is set up two port forwards in my router; the global port will be different but the host port will still be 3389 in each case. Does that sound right? One thing I know is that going into the registry and changing the host port to something other than 3389 does nothing. In fact, if I do that I can no longer use remote desktop inside my home network. I've looked all over the web today and there are not any clear instructions on how to do this (that I could find). I read the Windows 7 forum tutorial.

For internet, desktop is connected through LAN cable and laptop through WiFi. Can I use RDC between them without wired connection and using router/internet?

In the 20 years I have used Backup programs like Acronis True Image which don't give free support. I have never seen a company give free support with their backup programs. Support is worth half of the product. So is there or does anyone know of a backup and restore program that gives free support like a printer, scanner, router, hard drives which gives you years of support and no change?

Last week I had a Win XP desktop computer. I use a Netgear WGR614 V6 router. I have fiber to the house and use a Cat5e Ethernet cable to connect the router to the wall jack and Cat5e from the router to the XP computer. I also used Wi-Fi to connect my Windows 7 x64 new laptop and an older XP laptop to the Internet. Everyone was happy and all worked well! I set-up a new Dell Windows 7 x64 desktop computer (it currently connects to the Internet just fine).
During the period I was setting up the new Windows 7 desktop I had both the XP desktop unit AND the new Windows 7 desktop connected to the router via Ethernet cables (at that time both laptops could connect to the Internet). After I had transferred the XP files to the Win 7 computer I just shut down the XP computer and removed the Ethernet cable linking the XP computer and the router - the new Windows 7 computer still connected to the Internet fine (as it still does today).
I made 2 changes to the router:
1) I had the XP desktop connected to Port 3 on the back of the router and had the Windows 7 x64 desktop connected to Port 2 on the router.
2) I used Cat5e cable on the XP desktop and used a Cat 6 cable to connect the new Windows 7 desktop unit to the router.
Both laptops see my router name but neither laptop can connect - even ran the troubleshooting routine. Could simply using Cat6 cable be causing a problem (Windows 7 desktop connects fine via the cable, laptops can not connect via Wi-Fi)? Surely just changing the port I connect the desktop cable to the router with wouldn't cause any problem would it? Do I need to do some sort of set-up or configuration to the new desktop unit to make the router Wi-Fi work for the laptops?

We have a windows server 2003 configured as a terminal server, running RDP 5.2. All remote workers using XP / Vista are able to ptinr to their local printers from the terminal server. Some are USB so the registry keys have been amended to allow this. However, w enow have a windows 7 remote client which cannot print to it's local printer. The registry key used previously does not exist in Windows 7!

I am having trouble using a locally networked printer when I use Remote Desktop to connect to a Vista machine. Under the local resources tab for RD, I have checked printers. The only thing I can figure is that my printer is networked locally, not connected directly to my machine. Every time I try to print during my remote desktop session, I can't access my locally networked printer.
I installed the printer drivers on the remote computer and when I try to locate the printer, I get the following error: "Windows cannot connect to the printer. Server print spooler service is not running..." but the spooler service IS runing.
I also tried to plug in my printer to a local USB port this morning. Still would not work. I keep getting the same spooling error. The drivers are not corrupt, as others have indicated may be the cause. They work fine on my system locally with 7.
I also found a post elsewhere that discussed setting 'share permissions' and 'network permissions' to resolve the spooler error. Still no go.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I've spent a few hours on this one and am at a loss at this point.

I am running Windows 7 Professional 32 bit on both my local and remote systems.
My local system uses a brother HL-5250DN printer hooked up via a network cable (otherwards, it's not directly connected).
My remote computer was running Visa Ultimate and when I connected from home, it would see the Brother printer from the Windows 7 machine.
Since I upgraded the remote system to Windows 7, the printer is no longer seen remotely.
Any suggestions?

I would just like to say, I am not just posting this question anyhow. I have read around and I haven't found any solution to my problem, thus I have resorted in opening a new thread. So here is the prob:I have a Windows 7 Starter Edition netbook which is connected to a WRT54GL Wireless-G Router. This router is connected via hard wire to my Windows Vista Desktop and that is how the desktop has access to the internet. The netbook is accessing the internet the very same Router via Wi-Fi. The Printer (HP DeskJet 940c) is connected and installed on the Windows Vista Desktop and is functioning. It prints when I give it commands from the desktop. I have set the printer sharing options 'on' in the Networks and Sharing Center as well as haven't kept a sharing password (its open and unprotected). This is as far as I have gotten. My next challenge is, how can I print from the Windows 7 Starter Edition netbook on my HP Deskjet 940c via the Router.I would be very grateful if someone can explain to me in a very noob-ish way as I am not a techie. If someone could send me a video link or so.
