View 5 RepliesWhen I try to start my toshiba satellite L455D-S5976, it gives me the option between "start normally" or "system repair." When I chose "start normally," it shows the windows boot screen for a while, then restarts to the toshiba start screen, and the same menu again. If I chose "system repair," it shows an older type of windows boot screen, says something to the effect of "loading files" the the screen goes black, and the cursor comes up, and can be moved. I have left it on this blank screen for hours, and nothing has happened.

I recently built a new desktop computer and installed it with Windows 7 since our old xp desktop had crashed. I am now trying to setup our wireless network similar to the way it was on the old xp desktop but cannot seem to figure out how to do it on windows. The basic setup would be: usb card (internet soure) ---> Desktop ---> ethernet cable to router wirless access for laptops etc. This was fairly easy on xp. All I had to do was enable ICS on the verizon card and then run the little network setup wizard on xp and boom the router was broadcasting internet. Now unfortunately windows 7 doesn't have that little wizard and I simply cannot figure out how to create the same setup. I enabled ICS on the verizon card but can't seem to get internet access to the router after that.

Had no problem seeing the desktop when I clicked on "network" on either my work laptop (running win 7 pro x32 or the wifes running vista sp2 x32 home Premium). But Now neither can see the tower.
Nothing else was changed, all setting were set the same. Thought Dells could talk to each other via RF signals, no need for routers.
I have been having a problem with my Desktop for about a week now. It is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. No built in wireless adapter, but using a USB TP-Link TL-WN722N wireless adapter. The computer can connect to the network, but the internet connection just stopped working. My cell phone, xBox, and Wii can all connect just fine and have internet connectivity. I have already tried:
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have two computers running W7p that I want to access when I'm away from my office. I am able to use remote desktop from inside my home network on either computer. I am able to access one of the computers from outside with my router set to forward global port 3389 to host port 3389. I am guessing that what I need to do is set up two port forwards in my router; the global port will be different but the host port will still be 3389 in each case. Does that sound right? One thing I know is that going into the registry and changing the host port to something other than 3389 does nothing. In fact, if I do that I can no longer use remote desktop inside my home network. I've looked all over the web today and there are not any clear instructions on how to do this (that I could find). I read the Windows 7 forum tutorial.

Last week I had a Win XP desktop computer. I use a Netgear WGR614 V6 router. I have fiber to the house and use a Cat5e Ethernet cable to connect the router to the wall jack and Cat5e from the router to the XP computer. I also used Wi-Fi to connect my Windows 7 x64 new laptop and an older XP laptop to the Internet. Everyone was happy and all worked well! I set-up a new Dell Windows 7 x64 desktop computer (it currently connects to the Internet just fine).
During the period I was setting up the new Windows 7 desktop I had both the XP desktop unit AND the new Windows 7 desktop connected to the router via Ethernet cables (at that time both laptops could connect to the Internet). After I had transferred the XP files to the Win 7 computer I just shut down the XP computer and removed the Ethernet cable linking the XP computer and the router - the new Windows 7 computer still connected to the Internet fine (as it still does today).
I made 2 changes to the router:
1) I had the XP desktop connected to Port 3 on the back of the router and had the Windows 7 x64 desktop connected to Port 2 on the router.
2) I used Cat5e cable on the XP desktop and used a Cat 6 cable to connect the new Windows 7 desktop unit to the router.
Both laptops see my router name but neither laptop can connect - even ran the troubleshooting routine. Could simply using Cat6 cable be causing a problem (Windows 7 desktop connects fine via the cable, laptops can not connect via Wi-Fi)? Surely just changing the port I connect the desktop cable to the router with wouldn't cause any problem would it? Do I need to do some sort of set-up or configuration to the new desktop unit to make the router Wi-Fi work for the laptops?
i recently acquired a virus that i've now taken care of, but it seems to have left my computer damaged. i can't change my wallpaper, for one. and whenever i save or upload something (for example, when i want to upload a video on to Internet and you get that window pop-up where it gives you the option to upload something from a certain location), the location for desktop is completely missing when i use one of my browsers - i can't access it at all.
i've also noticed recently that i can't even make changes to my desk top icons. i arrange it by date -for instance- and when i restart the computer, it goes back to the way it was before the change?

View 5 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to make a link on the desktop, or elsewhere, and when opened, to open it with a specific program rather then the default? Specifically, I use FF as my default browser, but I would like to use IE for a couple specific links. I know I can just open IE but it would be convenient to create an icon/link on the desktop to the location, and when opened, to be opened by IE rather then the default program for that extension (FF).I just realized that I could make another extension, a new one not used by any program, and just make that extension opened by IE by default then rename the link on the desktop, I think that would work, but is there a way to edit the link and tell it specifically what program to use when clicked rather then the default?

View 6 Replies View RelatedSo over the past year at college I bought a router to use at the dorm: A Belkin router, model F7D6301. Upon coming home for the summer, I figured it was simply a matter of plugging in to the router at home (Netgear) and connecting. While my laptop took the change well, as I it's connected to the netgear hundreds of times, my desktop however, did not.My first guess was that the belkin software was creating an issue keeping the desktop from connecting. I un-installed the belkin software, yet the issue persisted.Upon plugging the router (netgear) in, the desktop, connected through ethernet, says "No network connection", followed by "No internet connection" after the router begins to warm up. After the router is warmed up, and other devices can connect to the internet, my desktop goes back to saying "no network connection". I've switched out ethernet cables, and tried all 4 ports on the router, with the same results.

View 3 Replies View RelatedGot a new Asus laptop. Tried to connect to wireless router, but I always get no network access and an unidentified network. Some data points: I have a D-Link DIR-625. This could be the problem since it is from 2007, but technically it is compatible with Windows 7. All other devices (Windows XP laptops, smartphones, etc.) connect with no problem to the wireless router. The LAN on the new laptop connects fine to the router when I plug it in. Only the wireless does not work. I have read online forums for 4 hours trying to figure things out but haven't had luck. I think I've tried everything. I have attached the ipconfig /all below. Oh, and my computer does not have Bonjour installed, which apparently has caused this issue for others.
