View 1 Replies View RelatedI often want to send an email attachment from my desktop or other directory. When I right click on the file, and click send to email recipient, i get an error telling me no email program is associated to perform this action.I don't have any stand alone email program s installed. I strictly use web based email (gmail & hotmail) as my mail programs. I do not wish to install a stand alone program such as outlook or Thunderbird. How can I associate my request to email to a recipient to automatically go to my web based email platform (gmail or hotmail) and send the mail?I cant seem to find a hack or a small program to install to tell Windows 7 to use my web based email as my program!

View 3 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to make a link on the desktop, or elsewhere, and when opened, to open it with a specific program rather then the default? Specifically, I use FF as my default browser, but I would like to use IE for a couple specific links. I know I can just open IE but it would be convenient to create an icon/link on the desktop to the location, and when opened, to be opened by IE rather then the default program for that extension (FF).I just realized that I could make another extension, a new one not used by any program, and just make that extension opened by IE by default then rename the link on the desktop, I think that would work, but is there a way to edit the link and tell it specifically what program to use when clicked rather then the default?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAs above, if a user opens say a Word document which is an attachment on a web-based mail system like hotmail or outlook live and the user then just clicks SAVE, the document is saved to a temporary location.
We have lots of users who are doing this and then finding that they have lost there work etc as they have assumed it was saving to a network drive or even back to the attachment (yes I know thats wrong, but students don't always know till its too late).
So my question is, is there any way of getting Word to prompt them to save the document to somewhere when they click SAVE, rather than save it in a temp area under the temporary files area on the C: drive??
Is it possible to do with a Group Policy setting or any other way round not saving the doc in temp area and forcing the user to choose the location.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Thunderbird as my email client and I used to have a desktop icon I could click to open the send mail window with a pre-addressed mail. I created a desktop shortcut and put something like this in the location window:
mailto:(url)....
This doesn't seem to work in Windows 7 64 bit and instead of a shortcut icon I get a small desktop file created. When I click it, a send mail window opens but it isn't pre-addressed and the desktop file is an attachment.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a desktop icon for opening CorelPaint Shop Pro Photo XI that has a yellow security sheild on it (not the case for 10 other program shortcuts). Executing the shortcut brings up an "Unknown Publisher" UAC warning. Not a show stopper but annoying as all get out. I have been playing with the Security properties for the shortcut and the exe file to get this to go away but no joy.
Does anyone have a step by step to stop this behavior?

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo here's something weird. On a firends computer, he has a folder on the desktop that appears to be a duplicate of the users folder in the Users folder. It shows it's on the desktop when you open the Computer icon and in your browse window it's there. You can select it and it opens up and it's exactly the same as the user folder of the same name.
If you right click it, you don't reaaqlly get anything. It doesn't have a shortcut display either. If you look at the actual desktop, it's not there. Only in the browse window. I finally got fed up and just deleted it and it started deleting the same files in the user folder so I stopped.I would like to get rid of it but I don't know how

I went and switched back to Firefox as default but I have a few internet programs that do not run in Firefox so I had the desktop shortcuts set to open with IE. When I switched Firefox back to default my links switched also. When I open the properties of the link, before you could choose the program you wanted it to open with and uncheck the "make this default" box. Now this box is greyed out. How do I go about changing the browser for only specific desktop links?
