Only 1 Computer Dislikes Router?
Jun 4, 2011
So over the past year at college I bought a router to use at the dorm: A Belkin router, model F7D6301. Upon coming home for the summer, I figured it was simply a matter of plugging in to the router at home (Netgear) and connecting. While my laptop took the change well, as I it's connected to the netgear hundreds of times, my desktop however, did not.My first guess was that the belkin software was creating an issue keeping the desktop from connecting. I un-installed the belkin software, yet the issue persisted.Upon plugging the router (netgear) in, the desktop, connected through ethernet, says "No network connection", followed by "No internet connection" after the router begins to warm up. After the router is warmed up, and other devices can connect to the internet, my desktop goes back to saying "no network connection". I've switched out ethernet cables, and tried all 4 ports on the router, with the same results.

Got a new Asus laptop. Tried to connect to wireless router, but I always get no network access and an unidentified network. Some data points: I have a D-Link DIR-625. This could be the problem since it is from 2007, but technically it is compatible with Windows 7. All other devices (Windows XP laptops, smartphones, etc.) connect with no problem to the wireless router. The LAN on the new laptop connects fine to the router when I plug it in. Only the wireless does not work. I have read online forums for 4 hours trying to figure things out but haven't had luck. I think I've tried everything. I have attached the ipconfig /all below. Oh, and my computer does not have Bonjour installed, which apparently has caused this issue for others.
Windows IP Configuration
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : VC-PC
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :

My wireless adapter shows that it is connected to my network, but my computer cannot connect to the internet. All other computers can still connect to the internet. It worked fine for almost a year, then one day...no connection.I use Windows 7, Home Premium, 64-bit; engenius wireless adapter and Linksys router. I tried to change to a TP-Link router, but my adapter (or computer) couldn't find it, so I switched back to the Linksys.Tried re-installing wireless adapter, linksys, tp-link; re-sets to both routers; uninstalling software, then re-installing;

My computer has been acting up lately,I haven't made any changes to my computer or anything but it seems to just not want to connect to the inter for more than 5 min. My othe computer on the house seems to connect fine, but mine will only connect for 5 min the can't find the network for 15 min and it does this repeatedly. I tried updating the drivers but there were no updates available. I ran the troubleshooter and it couldn't find a problem, it just said to make sure I was in range of the router, which I am because my computer was working fine in the same spot about a week ago.

After installing a Netgear WNDR4500 router, and not changing anything else (settings, sleep/wake, etc.) my W7HP computer will not stay off! I have gone into the settings (via computer management) for the mouse, keyboard, and networking card, and have unchecked the box that allows those devices to wake the computer. I had the computer set to turn off after 10 minutes of inactivity, but changed it to 60 because the constant restarting grew tiresome. Now, after a period of time, the monitor will turn off, but the tower remains on.
I have heard of viruses causing computer crashes and shutdowns, but I have never heard of one that prevents a computer from staying off. The only way I am able to have the computer not restart (about a minute) after shutting down is to uplug the power cord after the machine is off, otherwise it simply restarts on its' own.

I am connecting to my office computer from home using remote desktop connection.
My office computer is in a network under router. So I forwarded a port 3389 to my computer's internal ip address. Now I want to connect to another computer at my office from home. I tried forwarding the port 3990. But I was not able to access using remote desktop connect.
What should I do to access the second computer. Will 3390, 3391 ... will not work?

Does a built in firewall on a router really keep your computer safe? Does that mean keeps safe from email virus, or websites? Or is it only keep you safe from direct attacks? I starting see I have a lack of understanding of how things work? back in the days there was one way to get a virus lol seems things have gotton much more complicated I mean seems like you neeed twelve programs HIPS , Firewalls, Malware, anti virus, anti root kit.

So i have open DNS setup on my home router which is connected to my Verizon router (piece of crap) which i also have running open DNS. I run open dns for security and for filtering i have several teenagers in the house and i need to filter content. The only problem is that they can bypass the DNS server settings by setting them manually on there computer Start > Control panel > network and sharing > adapter setting > left click on adapter > properties > IPV4 properties and then change the DNS. I was wondering if there was a way to make it so this trick does not work? I have tried everything i know to do. I have set the open DNS, as the DNS server on every connection on my Verizon router and on my linksys router but it can still be bypassed.

The main problem is that my ONE computer's security settings do not and will not match to my router. I'll try and list everything I did. Hopefully I won't miss anything. Obviously, I try to look at the settings and see why they don't match. My netbook is also running on 7 Ultimate (32bit), and it has no problem whatsoever connecting to the router and accessing he internet. I look at the wireless settings on there. Match perfectly to the ones in the properties. So far nothing logical. I try using the WPS button on my router to connect. It tries to, but it always says it simply can't. I copied the wireless settings from my netbook to my desktop (the computer in question) on a flash drive and tried to put them onto my desktop. Signal strength is excellent, no problem there. Reset router to factory default settings. No changes there.Called Comcast (the router/modem is actually theirs).

I own three computers. One has a wired connection to my wireless router (Linksys WRT54G v. 6 with latest firmware), the other two use wireless adapters and are running Windows XP Professional 32-Bit. If I run Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit on the computer with the wired connection, the other two computers cannot connect to the router (access point). Here's what's troubling.
If I leave the other two "wireless" computers turned off, and run Windows 7 on the "wired" computer, then turn off the "wired" computer, and turn on one or both of the "wireless" computers, they still cannot connect.
In order to establish a wireless connection, once again, I must reset the router , then reset the security, and finally, enter the new network key on each of the "wireless" computers. It doesn't matter whether the "wireless" computers are on or off when I either install or run Windows 7 on the "wired" computer. The problem occurs even when I turn off the "wired" computer before turning on the "wireless" computers.
At this point, I can only "assume" (either from lack of knowledge or imagination) Windows 7 actually makes changes to the router's settings. I cannot access the router's web-based utility from Windows 7 or from Windows Vista. I must access it from Windows XP (I quad boot XP, Vista, Windows 7, and Ubuntu). My problem with wireless networking only occurs with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit. I don't experience this problem with Vista Ultimate 64-Bit. Also, I have no networking issues with Windows 7 running on the "wired" computer.
Perhaps there is a simple solution. However, it's disconcerting that Windows 7 can prevent other computers from connecting to my router. Windows 7 should only be concerned with connections made to the computer it is running on, and not take over the responsibility of the router. If this is the case, then I find that to be completely unacceptable. I'm not using the wired computer as a gateway for the other computers. The Linksys router is the default gateway.
Furthermore, I'm absolutely not interested in sharing music or files through Home Group, since this feature of Windows 7 is only compatible with other computers running Windows 7, and I'm not about to replace XP on the "wireless" computers with a beta version of Windows 7. I suspect Home Group might be the culprit here, or the reach of Windows Firewall is now out of bounds.
If you know or have an idea of what might be the problem, please let me know. I'll have to leave Windows 7 alone until I find a solution, as I'm not going to go through the hassle of reseting the router and network keys every time I run Windows 7. Unplugging the computer from the router is an option, but to do so would cripple the OS and the fun of using it. Besides, the beta needs access to the Internet for updates and to report problems.

I was wondering to myself in Wal-Mart if I should get myself one of those USB routers for my Nintendo DSi, PSP and laptop computer. I mean I would love to have one so i can use the browsers in them and for updating/online gaming. but at the same time I think that since I have dial up it would be a waste of money to buy something that SHOULD be used on a cable/satellite connection. I was wondering if I could get your opinion on the matter, cause I can't come up with an answer myself.

I have D-Link router 2650U, and I'd like to use QoS on my router to get the highest priority for internet, for gaming, surfing or w/e.I had some issues configure the parameters so help me please, pictures :As u see I've enabled the QoS I've enabled here QoS too, though I don't know what those options and DSCP means and if I even need it.. Here I've set its priority This how it looks after I've done making the 'QoS' for my pc/ports, not sure if its good. This is the window where I need help insert the right details to give the priority to my PC, the ports 7700~7800(range) are the ports for the game I play GunZ I found out those ports through Port Forward website. I just want to know if the QoS is right, or how can I make my whole PC with the highest priority and not just ports. Will disabling items help/harm my internet? And putting it in such order is better? or give the web client network higher priority? And also disabling all those items?
