Dec 28, 2011I have CANYON 11g AP Router which is conencted to this PC and a Windows 7 PC (my workstation). Last night the providers connection dropped so after finishing my work I didn't stand around to check if the internet will be back and closed it. This morning my girlfriend tried to unplug something and accidentally unplugged the router. Ever since that happened, this PC, running XP has no internet connection issues. Unfortunately, the Windows 7 PC cannot connect to the Internet. I tried disabling and enabling, it ahs a clear connection towards "Multiple networks", but from there to the "Internet" it does not connect. I also tried a diagnostics and a firewall deactivation but still no luck. My Netwpork meter gadgetr shows my Int. IP as 192.168.1.2 and my Ext. IP as NO CONNECTION.When I try to connect to the internet it appears that Mozilla finds the website but cannot conenct to it. At least that's what I think, since it is stuck on "Connecting" and not on "Looking up". Ipconfig does not work, it only shows the window for a brief second, then auto closes.

Feb 23, 2011So I just finished building a computer..got everything running on it, and now im sitting at my windows 7 desktop...my issue here is I can't get access to the internet...I am wondering if I need specific drivers or something..I thought, perhaps, it would be a simple "plug and play" procedure where windows would recognize it right away...however, that's not the case...I have tried removing the cord from the back of the computer into both ethernet ports ..I see an orange led to indicate that the cord is being acknowledged and there is probably some communication...but windows tells me there are no connections

Sep 5, 2011I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit. I have a Virgin Media SuperHub, which is both a wireless modem and 4-port router in one unit.
I have my Xbox 360 connected to the hub via Ethernet cable, and connects to Xbox Live perfectly fine. My computer is connected to the hub as well, and connects to the internet perfectly. I have a HomeGroup set up in my network connections, and I am very sure both devices are connected to the same network. However my computer does not recognise the Xbox being connected to the network, and my Xbox does not show the PC as on the network. So they are both connected by cannot find each other.
I have spent hours fiddling around with network settings, my SuperHub is set to allow other devices to connect through it. My HomeGroup has all sharing options turned on, I have disabled my firewall, I have gone through countless forums stating that Windows 7 has alot of network sharing options automatically disabled as default, therefore I have manually run the system settings and enabled all recommended processes etc. I have restarted my Xbox and PC a million times, but they still won't find each other.

In URL it hangs I can access some sites except www.microsoft. com and Allentown, Lehigh Valley news from The Morning Call and mcall.com - mcall.com are just two. Router has been reset numerous times and has latest firmware. I was on the phone with net gear for five hours . I can ping router ok. I move it to my old xp machine everything works great. Aug 7, 2010I am having trouble connecting my girlfriends laptop to the internet using her Windows 7 laptop via a Dlink router with Virgin Media. The laptop previously had Windows Vista installed but I recently upgraded it to Windows 7. For about 2 weeks the laptop connected to the wireless router fine, but stopped working about 4 days ago for some unknown reason out of the blue.
We have tried various methods to fix it, including disabling the wireless network adapter and enabling it again, we have tried updating the driver for the adapter but we get a message saying that the driver currently installed is the latest driver. It also won't let me roll back to the previous driver as that option is faded out in the properties box.
I have took her laptop to my house today to try and connect it to my router (which is also with Virgin and is working fine on my computers at my house) and the laptop won't let me connect to the network and it keeps saying there are no network connections available. I understand that usually it displays a list of connections you can log on to, but the laptop is not finding any connections at all.
On Thursday we attempted to connect to the internet by plugging in the blue wire that came with the router and that works fine. It's just it will not connect wirelessly. What really baffles us with this problem is that it worked fine for a couple of weeks then suddenly stopped working. Could it be an update that was installed that has caused the problem perhaps?
I have also tried using System Restore but that hasn't fixed the problem either. The wireless adapter is called: Atheros AR5005G Wirelss Network Adapter.

Nov 14, 2011I have been struggling with my pc dropping internet connection and not seeing the router as well as it freezing at random times, from 5mins use to several hours, but lately its alot more. Its a cyberpower system machine I bought in oct 2008, its had ALOT of use. See below for system specs below please if needed.It will freeze at all sorts of times, does not matter which application I have open. I have to hard reboot. It will also freeze on shutdown sometimes. I get all sorts of errors on connection loss, it will say the default gatway not available, it will ask me to reset my router too. It resets Local Area Connection adapter all the time, when I try to resolve the issue. It also says "Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration, and resets all my settings back to Obtain IP addresses automatically, as well as Obtain DNS server address automatically in the Internet Protocol Version 4 settings. If I put all the IP addresses and default gateway stuff back in without resetting the router, it then says Troubleshooting couldn't find the problem. Resetting the router usually does work. But not always, sometimes I need a restart. It Sometimes it works if I restart, sometimes it still won't see the router.
I tried putting the IP address in as static, put in the subnet mask, and default gateway.I use the Preffered DNS server IP in there as it helps use network gaming and platforms better like SecondLife.I've tested the router network with same cable I use on another laptop so the cable is fine.Changed ASDL filters twice.Bought new router.I've replaced my harddrive.I've tried two different driver versions for my network card which is a Marvell Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller I've resit my memory.Tried restoring system to a few days before it started freezing again.I've reinstalled windows a few times now, usually it works for a while (week or two) after a fresh new install. Its a fresh new windows 7 I bought as the machine came with vista.I've manually tried to put in all the drivers I need myself as I don't have the disk that came with my machine. (I have no idea if I've done that right)Sent it in for a service clean and checkup.Turned off the option that windows shuts my network driver down to save on power.

I have an old wireless router (unsecured at the moment) that I have connected to a modem, provided by Virgin media. When I use a cable to directly connect to the router, all seems fine, but when I attempt to connect wirelessly I am almost immediately presented with "Windows was unable to connect to [router name]". Other people in my house (on both XP and Vista) can connect to the router without any problems, implying that it is a setting within Windows 7. HOWEVER, I am able to connect to another (unsecured) wireless router. I guess this can only mean that there is a setting on the router that is preventing me from connecting...

Aug 22, 2012I've got a Win 7 64 laptop less than a month old that spontaneously stopped connecting to the internet but says it's connecting to network devices just fine. I first noticed when I attempted to connect to my Verizon hot spot, then I connected to a restaurant's wifi. In both cases it said I had a connection but wasn't connected to the internet. I'm now on my home network trying to resolve and have the same problem. I've uninstalled, rebooted, then reinstalled the driver for the network card. I attempted to install a newer device driver from the manufacturer but it tells me there's no device connected even though I can see it in the device manager and can both uninstall and reinstall it.
When I run ipconfig (and when I look at my router) I can see I'm getting an IP address but again, I can't get on the internet. I've released and renewed the IP address. The device is set to automatically obtain an IP address and DNS servers. I've cleared my DNS cache. I've tried to reinstall TCP/IP v4. I can't ping either a URL or an IP address.
What haven't I thought of? I'm relatively new to Windows 7 so am unfamiliar with it's quirks.
Windows Recognizing Router As Unidentified Network
Sep 26, 2012I'm trying to re-rout a signal from one router through a computer to another router. The setup goes as follows:
Connected Network > My computer > Ethernet cable > Second router
The problem is, Windows recognises the router as an "Unidentified Network" and I have scourged the net for a solution. It worked when I had Vista. The router is a WRT300N Broadband router. It's quite old, but not outdated. Got it 3 years ago.
Unable To Connect To Dlink Modem Router Using Windows 7 Pc
Dec 3, 2010I had an existing pc with windows xp home. I just purchased a new pc with windows 7 home. Why I connected the windows 7 pc to the internet using dlink router I was able to access the internet. On the next day though, when I tried to connect again, I was not able to access the internet. Here are the tasks that I have already carried out to check the connectivity.
1. The windows 7 computer has a valid IP address, which means that ARP is working fine and my router is dispensing the addresses correctly.
2. When I try to ping the modem-router, there is no reply. So I am not able to access router using ICMP.
3. My old windows xp pc is able to connect and browse the internet. The problem is only with my new windows 7 pc.
