Sharing USB Internet Through Desktop To Router
May 13, 2012
I recently built a new desktop computer and installed it with Windows 7 since our old xp desktop had crashed. I am now trying to setup our wireless network similar to the way it was on the old xp desktop but cannot seem to figure out how to do it on windows. The basic setup would be: usb card (internet soure) ---> Desktop ---> ethernet cable to router wirless access for laptops etc. This was fairly easy on xp. All I had to do was enable ICS on the verizon card and then run the little network setup wizard on xp and boom the router was broadcasting internet. Now unfortunately windows 7 doesn't have that little wizard and I simply cannot figure out how to create the same setup. I enabled ICS on the verizon card but can't seem to get internet access to the router after that.

I'm switching from landline ISP to mobile ISP (dongle). So I'm thinking of sharing 3G dongle (ZTE MF190) internet connection with other PC, device etc, through D-Link modem+router(DSL-2640B) that I use for landline internet connection before. Is this possible? I notice that I cannot use homegroup via D-Link anymore after connecting to 3G dongle. I've tried ICS (internet connection sharing) but to no avail.

I have been having a problem with my Desktop for about a week now. It is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. No built in wireless adapter, but using a USB TP-Link TL-WN722N wireless adapter. The computer can connect to the network, but the internet connection just stopped working. My cell phone, xBox, and Wii can all connect just fine and have internet connectivity. I have already tried:

I've spent a day or two troubleshooting problems such as 'LAN' doesn't have valid configuration and such, i found a solution and I've got the two connections to be able to see each other, but i can't get an internet connection to go through.I have my ipconfig /all for both computers available: (Both have had excess trimmed off to save on character limit)[CODE]

attempting to connect my 360 to the network to play online/stream NetFlix. The Univ. posted this PDF detailing how to connect a console to the network. I picked up a Belkin USB->Ethernet adapter from campus IT the other day and began to follow the guide. While enabling Internet Connection Sharing from my local connection, it kept getting an error stating "An error occurred while Internet Connection Sharing was being enabled. The dependency service or group failed to start. I checked it's dependencies, Remote Access Auto Connection Manager and Remote Access Connection Manager were set to "Automatic" but both bounced back with "Windows could not start the RA(A)CM service on Local Computer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start."

Is it recommended to share a SSD between a laptop and a desktop? Assuming I went back and installed all the nessesary drivers for both, would this cause any problems? Ive heard Windows 7 is pretty stable and efficient when it came to drivers etc installed a long time ago and never having to use a registry fixer/driver cleaner when updating hardware.

Working with a Windows 7 home premium and also tested a windows vista ultimate machine. enabled internet sharing in the network connections area of 'network and sharing' in the control panel. Proceded to the internet sharing service to set to automatic... then set recoveries all to 0 seconds. on each machine the service stopped immediatly after starting. I write to inquire what have i missed in the proper configuration of this feature.

I have searched online for this and I am still unclear if it is possible. I have a laptop connected to my tv for watching videos. It is connected to my home network through a wireless connection. Can I share the internet with my blu-ray player through the laptops ethernet port? The blu-ray doesn't have wireless and it's too far from my router.

I am unable to share an internet connection between two computers in a homegroup.File sharing is OK. The ADSL modem is connected (via USB, no ethernet) to a desktop, the desktop to a laptop via a router. The problem is that after opening network/adapter settings/LAN/properties on the desktop, NO sharing tab appears, only a 'networking' tab. On the laptop both tabs appear...How can I get around this? I know I should really get a modem that connects directly to the route, but don't want to waste any time/money if it doesn't resolve the problem

I've spent the last day running in circles trying to find a simple solution. I have two Win 7 machines located a few hundred miles apart. I currently have computer A (Local) connecting to computer B (remote) via UltraVNC. This works perfect except, when printing documents, I need to print to my local printer, which means on my remote machine I need to add a printer that is physically here locally. I've looked at IIS, IPP, Google Cloud drive, another service which costs. I think IPP could be the answer, but I can't find any step-by-step style of instructions out there. I have a limited understanding of this stuff, so really looking for a detailed solution.

I live in a dorm that is lucky to get 4mbps down even though I'm connected to 1gbps lan.I have a computer on the same 1gbps local network at an office that gets far superior download speeds.Office internet:Dorm internet:Is there anyway to "pipe" this connection over the LAN to my dorm?I've been able to ping the office computer from my dorm, so I know it can see it.Also, I made a VPN with windows 7 on it, but even though I try to connect with the computer name it still tries to connect with the 4mbps internet instead of the 1gbps lan. The bandwidth is there on the lan side to support a faster connection, but it keeps falling back to the internet even when a local computer is used for a VPN.

I've a wired (ADSL) broadband connection, which is connected to my main comp(runs on W7, W8) via an Ethernet. I've second computer(runs on xp) and is connected to my main computer via another Ethernet. The internet sharing ran fine for couple years till on a normal day it stopped just like that. I tried everything to make the sharing whole again but now it's been 6 months and I've pretty much given up. Second comp was formatted with fresh OS many times. On my main comp tried through W7 and W8 differently with different settings. I then followed dozens of tutorial which appeared on google's search. Still no success. I even tried setting up VPN between these two computers. On second comp, in control panel it says connected to broadband from main computer but in reality no internet app(browser, torrent client etc) find the internet. Other stuff such as file, printer sharing, lan based apps like multiplayer games are working fine.

I installed Google Chrome, AOE 3 and a number of other programs on the Administrators account. After reading that its not secure and is a best practice to create a second account for daily use I did that. I created the 2nd account with Administrative Rights, then reduced permissions to the first. However, I see that very few programs are available on the desktop of the newly created desktop. I want to share Chrome, AOE3 etc. for all users.Any ideas, am I missing something. I shouldn't have to reinstall all to the 2nd desktop right?

I have a little problem with installing my new router. There were quite a lot of problems with the old smc, so I've bought a TP-Link router. I installed it just alright, it said congratulations, you have internet. I don't have though, not even on the directly plugged computer. It's kind of frustrating, since the old router is still working like before. So I plugged an ethernet cable from the old router's lan to the tp-link wan and with that, the new network is working just fine. The problem with the internet access occurs only, if the router is directly plugged to the modem. (The computers do find the network but the connection is kind of offline.) I don't really know what could be the problem, since I'm a little new to routers. I've read almost everything in the new router's manual and I'm pretty sure it's installed correctly. (ISP username and password copied from the old settings, mac address copied, all ip addresses pinged, done power cycle etc..) I also tried all of this on two different computers, in case eset is in some magical way blocking the router. Turned out this wasn't the problem. Well, I may have overlooked something though. I thought about resetting the modem, but I'm a bit afraid of losing the old router's internet connection as well.

It's "connected" on the base computer, my desktop. However, my laptop has that annoying spinning circle thingy for a bit, then shows the bars with the exclamation point.I have absolutely NO internet access because of this. I don't understand...it worked before in this same setup! Same password, same ad-hoc/computer-to-computer network, same PCI wireless card and antenna.

I have 2 systems one with windows 7 and an older one with XP. The Windows 7 machine connects to the internet through a network adapter and gets its IP adress automatically and works perfectly both in xp and in 7. The Windows 7 machine is connected to the XP Machine via a second adapter (pci) and a crosslinked cable.
Before Windows 7 IN WINDOWS XP the 7 machine used an ip like 192.168.0.1 and ICS to give internet to the second machine (which got its ip automatically)
I tried a lot of things (ex. static fixed ips enable the computers to share files but not the internet connection) but i still keeps saying its an Unidentified Network / Public Network for the second connection (between the computers)
Note: - ICS is enabled for the internet connection.
- Back when both computers had XP the second XP computer obtained its IP Adress automatically and the internet was shared .. with 7 on the second (xp) computer doesnt aquire the right adress ever.
