Jan 28, 2009I just installed Windows 7 and updated all my drivers. I am missing two drivers, and I don't know what they are:
PCI Serial Port
PCI Simple Communication Controller
What exactly are these? I own a Lenovo X200 Tablet. Any ideas where I can find the drivers for these two things?

Oct 25, 2009I'm operating on a desktop intel dq35j0 and clean installed window 7 ultimate.
in device manager two errors appeared
pci serial port driver not installed ( code28)
simple communications controller driver not installed (code 28)
checked hardware id's in device manager as follows
pcven_8086&dev_29b7&subsys_4f4a8086&rev_02 for serial port driver
and the same hardware id for the simple com controller
Ive tried to search these drivers on intel site but get lost as to wher I may find these drivers.
the same issue is a problem on two other pc's after cleaninstall of win 7
1.) is an hp dx2000 nt
here the network controller driver has not installed
the hardware id is
pciven_0675&dev_1702&subsys_6692&rev_00
2.) is a hp pavillion dv6 (1125ei) notebook
here an "unknown device" driver not loaded
the hardware id is
acpihpq004 (double zero fout and not thriple zero four).

May 10, 2011I have win 7 64 bit desktop with only serial port, com1 i guess. I have an old HP 5P laserjet that has an lpt1 parallel printer cable securely attached to it. i tried to connect a couple of adapters to the cable and plug it into the com port. I don't get any errors and it doesn't print. I took the driver from the hp site. do i need to change the com port settings (baud rate, etc...? What am I missing?

Feb 17, 2013I have Avast anti virus running as my preferred AV software. To date I have not needed to use Outlook, but this year its usefulness increased as it saves me accessing work emails through my browser (as well as maintaining the calendar and stuff). So, I start the first run set up. All went well until it asked me to log on to the exchange server. When I did so it refused, eventually telling me I had to turn off the SSL(?). From what I could see, I could only do that after the address was entered into the profile, which it won't let me do. I did some digging and read (somewhere) that Avast was the problem. I tried temporarily disabling filters and logging on again, but no different. As a test, I fired up my laptop, also Windows 7, disabled the Avast filters, started Outlook for first use, set up the Exchange connection, logged on fine. Restarted the filters, all good! So next I try to reset Outlook to first run on my desktop. Can't do it. It resets Outlook to default, but doesn't bring up the set-up screen. I suppose I can uninstall Office all together (I'd only need to back up OneNote at this stage) and run a registry cleaner, but I'd rather not at this stage. I tried importing the registry settings from the laptop (no lectures please). This sort of worked; it now tries to log on to exchange on start up, but still fails. Something is still blocking the connection. Any ideas on what the block is?

Nov 4, 2009I am using the Belkin FD7050 v3 USB adapter. I was having all kinds of problems getting 7 to recognize it and find a network.
I got it work by installing Vista x64, running all windows updates and installing the adapter, then doing an in-place upgrade.
Everything was working great, no wireless problems at all. Then I unplugged the adapter and plugged it back in to a different USB port. Win 7 recognized the adapter right away and installed drivers, but it can't see any networks. Very similar to the first time I installed 7 before upgrading from Vista.
I have since tried uninstalling/re-installing. Letting Win 7 find drivers, manually installing the FD7050 v3 drivers from Belkin. Tried installing the Belkin drivers in XP compatibility mode and Vista Compatibility mode. Nothing works.
I'm trying to not have to completely reinstall Vista x64 and then upgrade to 7 x64 again. Any ideas?
Internet Connection Not Working Even When Plugged Directly Into Port
Nov 30, 2011My computer (windows 7 64bit desktop) at the office seems to be not able to connect to internet sometimes even though the cable is plugged directly into the internet port on the wall. Sometimes it works one day and then the next day when I come into office again, and it won't work. Every time I need to do the ipconfig release and renew then it starts to work again. I also heard that my coworker experienced the problem too when using windows 7, but the older computers running on xp never had an issue.

Cannot Access USB Serial Converter
Apr 28, 2010I have a USB<->serial converter (several, actually) that I cannot get to work under Windows 7. I know the hardware works.
When I try to open the virtual serial port in a terminal program, I get an error message stating that it cannot open the port. When I try to use the old-fashioned command line method ("copy test.txt com7" from the "DOS prompt"), I get an "Access denied" error message.
More details: My computer is a dual-boot Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit / Windows XP Pro 32-bit system. The USB serial converter worked immediately under WinXP when I rebooted, and it even works in the WinXP virtual machine under Windows 7. I have the latest certified drivers (from FTDI), which are stated to function under Windows 7 64-bit.
The serial converter appears as it should in the Device manager. My computer has one physical COM port, and I can access that one without any problems.
The serial converter is a USB-RS485-WE-1800-BT from FTDI. I have tried a USB<->RS232 converter (don't have the model number here), but it behaved exactly like the other one. I also started the terminal program as an adminstrator (since I suspected access rights issues), but it did not help.
I have tried uninstalling the drivers, then installing the latest certified driver and the even later non-certified driver, but still had the same behaviour.

The dive computer attaches to the PC via a hardware adapter designed to plug into a serial port. Under Windows XP, I used a USB-to-serial converter to be able to attach this adapter to a newer laptop via one of its USB ports. The Suunto software and the USB-to-serial converter are both a few years old.Today I installed the Suunto Dive Manager software on my Windows 7 laptop. The software seems to basically run okay under Windows 7; however, when the USB-to-serial converter is attached to the laptop, the Suunto Dive Manager software reports that it finds no serial ports on the PC.Are there known issues and fixes for using USB-to-serial converters under Windows 7?

So can I do it somehow for free? I have the 7 Home Premium serial number on the sticker on the bottom of my laptop, but I don't have the DVDs. Is it somehow possible to download the DVDs of the internet, and then put my serial number in?
I know I could find it on the torrent websites, but I am not sure I want to do that. Would it be legal to download a copy of windows 7 from a torrent website, but then put my serial number during the installation?
