I recently experienced BSOD while using NetBeans IDE to send commands to my robot(project) through serial port. I actually connected a ZigBee module to my Serial Port and sent commands to my robot using interface created in NetBeans. This occurs everytime i use NB IDE.If using emulator no problem occurs. But i need to send commands through NB IDE only as part of my project.
I have win 7 64 bit desktop with only serial port, com1 i guess. I have an old HP 5P laserjet that has an lpt1 parallel printer cable securely attached to it. i tried to connect a couple of adapters to the cable and plug it into the com port. I don't get any errors and it doesn't print. I took the driver from the hp site. do i need to change the com port settings (baud rate, etc...? What am I missing?

I have recently purchased a copy of Windows 7 Upgrade for my PC. Like an idiot, I upgraded my laptop and PC without realizing that you could only use one serial key per machine. My question is, what exactly happens if you never use an activation key on one machine? I was told that a message just shows up every day? Is it as simple as that or will something much worse end up happening?
Driver update program says new driver available 1.0. Any issues regarding updating this driver. No problems needed. Dell Inspirion laptop Win 7 Home Prem. 64bit 4gb ram

I used the disc which came with the computer for drivers etc and managed to install everything that was showing driver needed except for this. I have not used any USB devices as yet so is totally clean.
I have been all over the internet looking for a driver that works with this device. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate RTM 64-Bit. Every driver that I have found that will "work" absolutely does not work. Any ideas on a working driver?
I have a USB<->serial converter (several, actually) that I cannot get to work under Windows 7. I know the hardware works.
When I try to open the virtual serial port in a terminal program, I get an error message stating that it cannot open the port. When I try to use the old-fashioned command line method ("copy test.txt com7" from the "DOS prompt"), I get an "Access denied" error message.
More details: My computer is a dual-boot Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit / Windows XP Pro 32-bit system. The USB serial converter worked immediately under WinXP when I rebooted, and it even works in the WinXP virtual machine under Windows 7. I have the latest certified drivers (from FTDI), which are stated to function under Windows 7 64-bit.
The serial converter appears as it should in the Device manager. My computer has one physical COM port, and I can access that one without any problems.
The serial converter is a USB-RS485-WE-1800-BT from FTDI. I have tried a USB<->RS232 converter (don't have the model number here), but it behaved exactly like the other one. I also started the terminal program as an adminstrator (since I suspected access rights issues), but it did not help.
I have tried uninstalling the drivers, then installing the latest certified driver and the even later non-certified driver, but still had the same behaviour.
I have a Suunto dive computer that's designed to download data to a PC software program called Suunto Dive Manager. The dive computer attaches to the PC via a hardware adapter designed to plug into a serial port. Under Windows XP, I used a USB-to-serial converter to be able to attach this adapter to a newer laptop via one of its USB ports. The Suunto software and the USB-to-serial converter are both a few years old.Today I installed the Suunto Dive Manager software on my Windows 7 laptop. The software seems to basically run okay under Windows 7; however, when the USB-to-serial converter is attached to the laptop, the Suunto Dive Manager software reports that it finds no serial ports on the PC.Are there known issues and fixes for using USB-to-serial converters under Windows 7?
I have a TOUCHMATE PC with me, (Core i5 configuration). It came pre-installed with Windows 7 - Home Premium. I need to get back to the factory settings of this PC, but there is no such thing like that, (as you find in some laptops). So, I needed to install Windows 7 - Home Premium again with the same serial key, that i have.
Anyway, a month ago I bought a laptop which came with Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed. However, it had issues (for those who know about the issue, it's when "Not Responding" error constantly appears in all applications. Something to do with setting the drives to work in IDE or AHCI mode). So I put Windows XP on it, erasing the 7.
But then 2 days ago I got myself a desktop. It's relatively high end, but it's custom built. Did not come with an OS installed. So I put Ubuntu Linux on it. But I'd like to install the 7.
So can I do it somehow for free? I have the 7 Home Premium serial number on the sticker on the bottom of my laptop, but I don't have the DVDs. Is it somehow possible to download the DVDs of the internet, and then put my serial number in?
I know I could find it on the torrent websites, but I am not sure I want to do that. Would it be legal to download a copy of windows 7 from a torrent website, but then put my serial number during the installation?
