View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a TOUCHMATE PC with me, (Core i5 configuration). It came pre-installed with Windows 7 - Home Premium. I need to get back to the factory settings of this PC, but there is no such thing like that, (as you find in some laptops). So, I needed to install Windows 7 - Home Premium again with the same serial key, that i have.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAnyway, a month ago I bought a laptop which came with Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed. However, it had issues (for those who know about the issue, it's when "Not Responding" error constantly appears in all applications. Something to do with setting the drives to work in IDE or AHCI mode). So I put Windows XP on it, erasing the 7.
But then 2 days ago I got myself a desktop. It's relatively high end, but it's custom built. Did not come with an OS installed. So I put Ubuntu Linux on it. But I'd like to install the 7.
So can I do it somehow for free? I have the 7 Home Premium serial number on the sticker on the bottom of my laptop, but I don't have the DVDs. Is it somehow possible to download the DVDs of the internet, and then put my serial number in?
I know I could find it on the torrent websites, but I am not sure I want to do that. Would it be legal to download a copy of windows 7 from a torrent website, but then put my serial number during the installation?
I bought a somewhat old game, Ghost Recon advanced warfighter 2. It says vista and XP, but i figured since i have installed a dozen older games no reason this wouldn't work. But it will not accept the serial number it came with. It says it's invalid, and i tried every way of typing it,m even with and without the dashes. I'm 100% positive it's not user error. I also tried vista and XP compatibility mode and ran the exe as admin?

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy motherboard friend and I am in the process of replacing the mobo/cpu. I assume that I need to reinstall windows again. But I do not have my serial from my win7 installation (legit).I bought it through my school when I was in school (through MS academic alliance program), and got it via download, so I don't have the CD case or anything that will have the serial. I thought I had the serial saved, but apparently I don't or have lost it.
Is there any way to grab it off the hard drive before I reinstall windows?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI took my computer in for some repairs and requested that I get Windows 7 installed on it since they wiped the hard drive for me to begin with. So they did that and never bothered to ask if I wanted 32bit, or 64bit.My motherboard and so on are 64bit compatible, and the sole reason why I want this is because many of my video-games claim that I don't have enough memory with the 3.25gb of RAM usage to use certain video settings. In reality I have 16gb of RAM ready to be used, unfortunately the 32bit Windows 7 can't use it. Kind of lame that in 2012 all versions can't simply do it, but I'm sure more technological reasons negate it.Now my questions are that my current 32bit Windows 7 serial key can be used with a different install CD that is 64bit? My sister has Windows 7 64bit CD and I'm wondering is that even legal to do to begin with, as well as possible? Oh and I'm aware they must be the same version such as Home Premium, which they are.
View 9 Replies View RelatedCan anyone tell me if I can install an OEM Win 7 64 bit serial number on a system that was loaded from a Dell reinstallation disk? I bought the disk, and what turned out to be a bogas serial number from different venders. Now I have purchased the whole legitimate program from a vender I trust. The reason for wanting to do this involves licensing limits on other expensive software already loaded.

View 8 Replies View RelatedThis is actually a solution to a IDE specific boot issue (which may even apply to Vista).
I have been trying to test Windows 7 professional on a spare work PC. The standard build for us is Intel Duo 2180 CPU, 2Gb RAM, single 200+Gb HDD, DVD-ROM/RW, on board sound/graphics - nothing fancy or esoteric.
Our machines have been upgraded over the years (new motherboards, PSU's, etc), many still in the cases they had 5+ years ago (Our Vista 'test' machine was newly built when Vista was released). This test PC had a single 320Gb Seagate IDE HDD. Despite running with XP-SP3 for the last two years or so without issue, Windows 7 Pro would install OK, but not boot from the drive unless the DVD was in and the system looked there first (I was aware of the 'system drive' issue often talked about). After 11 installs trying various 'tweaks' and even BIOS flashing - motherboard is only 6 months old - nothing seemed to work.
Suspecting a (previously unseen) hard drive fault, I opened the case to check serial numbers for warranty and noticed an 'original' IDE cable (not a current ultraATA cable). I don't know why, but I decided to change the cable and try the install one more time, and IT WORKED! Boots every time.
It seems that Windows 7 can see/use IDE drives connected using the older IDE cables, but it will not boot from them (to test, I tried putting back a different, older IDE cable - it didn't boot, but swapped the ultraATA cable in and it was fine again).
I just hope this may help anyone with upgraded older machines having 'inexplicable' boot problems with Windows 7
I have Windows 7 Pro (RTM) installed on a DELL Precision M65 laptop.
My LAN interface reports "Cable unplugged" although the cable is inserted and working.
I have no network connection through this interface.
the onboard NIC is a Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit adapter and the driver reports it is working correctly.
If i try to install the latest driver from Broadcom, Windows says I already have the latest driver installed!
Any Suggestions?

I recently developed hard drive trouble and have had to order a replacement.Instead of installing Windows 7 all over again, with all the drivers, etc., I want to clone my existing hard drive to the new one.I intend to connect one of the hard drives to my system via a USB SATA cable with the other drive connected inside my system.

I have recently purchased a copy of Windows 7 Upgrade for my PC. Like an idiot, I upgraded my laptop and PC without realizing that you could only use one serial key per machine. My question is, what exactly happens if you never use an activation key on one machine? I was told that a message just shows up every day? Is it as simple as that or will something much worse end up happening?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have tried numerous times on my PC to install Windows 7 onto my Sata Drive to no avail. Yet as soon as I plug in my IDE HD it installs fine.I have unplugged all external peripherals USB and internal Card Reader. Set my Bios ok as it sees both the Hard Drive and DVD fine (Both in the bios and during selection of hard drive during windows 7 installation). Yet when I come to install it, it craps out at a random percentage saying cannot read from source or worse yet it crawls so slow through the percentages (I really don't think Windows 7 should take 6 hours to get to 15%!!) Yet both the hard drive and dvd are fine and the disc works great on my other PC without the sata drive in.
My motherboard is a Biostar G31-M7 TE with latest bios now what is odd is that I recently updated the BIOS to the latest one so does my problem come from here or was it always going to be a problem on this board? Also when I do have Windows 7 installed on the IDE drive when I plug in ther sata drive inside the whole system goes belly up (from freezes when transferring large files to just not seeing the drive)

I have been all over the internet looking for a driver that works with this device. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate RTM 64-Bit. Every driver that I have found that will "work" absolutely does not work. Any ideas on a working driver?
I have a USB<->serial converter (several, actually) that I cannot get to work under Windows 7. I know the hardware works.
When I try to open the virtual serial port in a terminal program, I get an error message stating that it cannot open the port. When I try to use the old-fashioned command line method ("copy test.txt com7" from the "DOS prompt"), I get an "Access denied" error message.
More details: My computer is a dual-boot Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit / Windows XP Pro 32-bit system. The USB serial converter worked immediately under WinXP when I rebooted, and it even works in the WinXP virtual machine under Windows 7. I have the latest certified drivers (from FTDI), which are stated to function under Windows 7 64-bit.
The serial converter appears as it should in the Device manager. My computer has one physical COM port, and I can access that one without any problems.
The serial converter is a USB-RS485-WE-1800-BT from FTDI. I have tried a USB<->RS232 converter (don't have the model number here), but it behaved exactly like the other one. I also started the terminal program as an adminstrator (since I suspected access rights issues), but it did not help.
I have tried uninstalling the drivers, then installing the latest certified driver and the even later non-certified driver, but still had the same behaviour.
I have a Suunto dive computer that's designed to download data to a PC software program called Suunto Dive Manager. The dive computer attaches to the PC via a hardware adapter designed to plug into a serial port. Under Windows XP, I used a USB-to-serial converter to be able to attach this adapter to a newer laptop via one of its USB ports. The Suunto software and the USB-to-serial converter are both a few years old.Today I installed the Suunto Dive Manager software on my Windows 7 laptop. The software seems to basically run okay under Windows 7; however, when the USB-to-serial converter is attached to the laptop, the Suunto Dive Manager software reports that it finds no serial ports on the PC.Are there known issues and fixes for using USB-to-serial converters under Windows 7?
